Does anyone else here get frustrated when you are playing world of tanks and you have a huge tank in front of you getting destroyed by your awesome weakspot aiming and tank management to only have him disappear behind a freaking bush that is half the hight of his tank 100 yards in front of you?!?!

How will world of warships tackle this frustrating spotting mechanic?

What do you guys think?

Nope, because I'm well versed in how the spotting system works and I take steps to reduce the chances of that from happening to me.   :Smile_teethhappy:

I wouldn't recommend talking about WoWp - you're still under an NDA.  What this means is that those here than can play WoWp will not discuss any noticed differences with you or provide comparisons or contrasting items.

If the weather is bad enough to hide a BB behind a wave, well, it SHOULD be disappearing, because I guarantee you'll see enough spray in the air that you can't see for crap.

This wiki page has some great info on sea state, so stop and think about the type of weather it would take to obscure a ship with what, 20m of freeboard?

i was just talking about how tanks can disappear from 100% plain sight into nothingness in a split second, i understand how ships in horrible rough and windy seas could be harder to see at range but there is nothing that should make it go from fully visible into completely invisible. within a few hundred yards.

EDIT: By the way That wiki page has a ton of interesting info ;)

You don't spot ships using your ship in WoWs, you use unarmed spotter planes instead, so if you want to keep track of an enemy, launch a plane in its direction, or have one of your allies do the same, and avoid letting it get shot down if you can.

I think he's talking about how normally it'd be visible but the game just makes it invisible even though half the tank is in view.

But yeah, scout airplanes ftw.

Right, but with rare occasions involving poles or odd treetrunks, in general, this doesn't happen.  There's almost a half dozen spotting points on a tank to maximize the opportunity you have to see them, assuming they're in your view range in the first place.  There have been tons of arguments on the WoT forums about this, and most often, when someone is complaining about a disappearing tank, it's because they could never personally see it in the first place.

I still just can't get over the terrifying thought of fighting a battle in sea state  9. EEEyugh!

It DOES, however remind me of stories I heard of torpedos flying OVER the deck of warships in the pacific due to heavy seas.

I'm hoping that we do get some of the rougher sea states in the game some how.

And I really want moving squalls that limit visibility from surface to surface and more importantly from AIR to surface.

There were so many times in the Atlantic and North Sea that less than perfect weather played a real part in the battles that I'd hate to see that missing just because somebody wants to play the game on a 15 year old laptop.

Yes, I AM an elitist about PCs.

Gertrude and Heathcliff, the Two Seagulls:

"Hey look Gertrude that battleship is trying to hide behind that wave."

"Don't be silly Heathcliff.  When they call out to close all watertight doors and hatches and blow negative they call it a submarine."

They already said that waves are merely visual. From a programmer standpoint, realistic wave physics is an awful lot of processing. You are not talking about a 'simple' physics like WoT has, where tanks move on a static surface. Not only are the ships *in* the waves, but the waves themselves are moving.  Everywhere on the map, simultaneously. Add in waves impacting obstacles, like islands, as well as ships... well, it's a lot of work not to mention processing power, and the results are probably not really worth the effort.

With that in mind, I don't forsee many issues with spotting. Other than the occasional island/coast, I don't expect there to be many ways to block LOS.  Smoke screens, if they get implemented, perhaps.

Let me get this straight.

A battleship is only 100 yards away from you and It completely disappears behind a wave?

If the waves are that big, methinks you have larger problems at hand than the invisible battleship.  :Smile_hiding:

i just aim where i know he last was and derp him in the face Blind-Fire style.

Got so many kills like that lol, but still that is about unrealistic as can be, i know these games are NOT simulators. but having tanks right in front of you in the open disappear is kinda crazy and frustrating at times lol, i just hope it is not quite the same with warships, and i am sure it won't be :Smile_glasses:

not really.
you can shoot someone you cant see if you shoot where they last were, but only if they were too dumb to move

your ship will have its own spotting range of course, the planes just help, a lot.

Agreed this would be such a rare occasion that it will probably never happen. The only scenario I can envision it happening is one where all friendly carriers are destroyed, all friendly float planes are destroyed and the sea is under cyclonic conditions. Like Jracule said, if that happens you got much larger problems than spotting.

I am not sure there is much to hide behind in WoWp, mountians maybe? I don't even know how the spotting mechanic works in WoWp, probably just a certian distance.

Wait I know what will hide ships, Rain Storms

In fact during the battle of Santa Cruz the USS Enterprise and her task force were spared for several hours or so becuase of a Rain squall. http://en.wikipedia....ta_Cruz_Islands

Quote

The U.S. carrier forces received word from their outbound strike aircraft at 08:30 that Japanese attack aircraft were headed their way.[39] At 08:52, the Japanese strike force commander sighted the Hornet task force (the Enterprise task force was hidden by a rain squall) and deployed his aircraft for attack. At 08:55, the U.S. carriers detected the approaching Japanese aircraft on radar—about 35 nmi (65 km; 40 mi) away—and began to vector the 37 Wildcats of their CAP to engage the incoming Japanese aircraft. However, communication problems, mistakes by the U.S. fighter control directors, and primitive control procedures prevented all but a few of the U.S. fighters from engaging the Japanese aircraft before they began their attacks on Hornet.[40] Although the U.S. CAP was able to shoot down several dive bombers, most of the Japanese aircraft commenced their attacks relatively unmolested by U.S. fighters.

SO I believe storms might hide ships in WoWs
