I heard in the EU stream today that the drop rate from More Resource containers was supposed to be about 50% for 800 (2 x 400), and less on either side (1 x 400, and 3 x 400).

I just went back to count my stats and here they are:

  • Total Containers: 264
  • 400 Coal: 196 containers, 74.24%
  • 800 Coal: 51 containers, 19.32%
  • 1,200 Coal: 16 containers: 6.06%
  • Other: 1 (15,000 Coal! What!?) 0.38%

These stats span from 22-Nov-2018 to 19-May-2020.

50% is a tad off.

Here are my numbers for May-2020:

  • Total: 20
  • 400: 15
  • 800: 4
  • 1,200: 0
  • 15,000: 1

Seems about on par with my global numbers.

It’s rng so it comes and goes. I think the containers are reasonable. In the last 3 days I have 4 x 400, 2 x 800, and 2 x 1200

I don't think that WG has ever said what the drop rate for greater than 400 coal.

Someone logged a bunch of results from a bunch of players and said that the average resource drop was 500 coal.

My all time average is 591. If you exclude the 15k Coal, then it's 526.

I think they were excluding supercontainers, so you are about on average.

Those were all "More Resource" containers - I've excluded any Super Containers that dropped as a result of selecting "More Resources". I recall watching that drop, and there were other items that came out of that container - it wasn't just 15k Coal. Could it have been a Super Container with "extra" stuff in it? I suppose - One "More Consumables" I selected dropped a Super Container with 15k coal in it. That really screws up my spreadsheet - do I log that as More Consumables, or Super Container? lol.

How do you get these stats?  I'd be curious to see how many I have gotten.

I've been writing them down in Google Sheets, sorry.
I made an Oil Tracker for my clan, and a Free XP Tracker when I was saving up for my Friesland. I made an S-Chart so I could keep track of my progress and make sure I wasn't slipping.

I agree that 50% isn't the reality.

In numerous news articles, such as this one, WG has stated:

image.thumb.png.c7fa83982d910cfb2939e76b36175091.png

Since the 2 Daily Missions reward a combined 400 coal, this means your average 3 containers are 400, 400, and 800. 800 (and 1,200) are the exception, and not the norm.

(I followed up with CS about the above statement, and they say it's indeed true given the coal drop chances without disclosing those drop chances.)

I'd say everyone on average getting 400, 400, and 800 is stretching it - unless the drop chances change per container number.

Edit: great, now I'm starting another spreadsheet. ;)

I didn't track it by bag count but of a possible 823 chances to get coal I got it 360 times for January thru March. During those months I got all three containers each day. Just under 44% of my drops were coal. It may not meet the "average" but I don't think that is too bad - 144,000 coal for three months. That doesn't count the 400 coal per day for the missions nor my 10% clan bonus. In less than six months you have enough for a Coal ship.

Sorry, I'm having trouble tracking your numbers.

  • "of a possible 823 chances to get coal" - You mean 823 "More Resource" containers?
  • Assuming MRC's, how did you not get coal (if you only got it 360 times out of 823)
  • Jan to Mar 2020 is 90 days (so says Excel), which is 270 containers. This number doesn't add up to anything you've mentioned.

Shed a little light here?

A while back, someone tracked coal drops for months and came up with an average of around 500 coal per container (not counting clan bonuses; I don’t remember if coal SCs were included or not). Since I started my current spreadsheet again in late April/early May, my totals have been:

Total: 29 containers

400: 22 (~75.8%)

800: 4 (13.8%)

1200: 3 (10.3%)

With an average of 538 per container. Yes it’s a super small sample size, and I wasn’t always getting three crates a day, but the numbers and percentages match with the drop rates others have been getting and reporting. And that average combined with both daily missions puts me right over the 2k a day average.

Now that's data. I would re-arrange the report sheets though, it's a bit hard to follow/look at.

Me too.  I like dense pages, but Counter_Gambit likes them really dense.

Putting it a little differently, a 2000 average would mean I would be seeing a double drop once a day, on average. That’s not my current reality.

I’m not saying you’re wrong. I’ve heard the 2000 per day average before, and, two years ago, it was true for sure. Now, not so much.

Sorry for the confusion. Let me try to make it more clear.

You can get up to 3 MRC per day and each MRC has 3 "items" in it - Coal, FXP, or signals (i don't count emblems).

  • Jan - Mar = 91 days (leap year this year).
  • 3 MRC a day = 273 containers
  • Of those 273 MRC only 2 were Super Containers which basically means I had 271 MRC
  • 3 "items" per MRC = 813 "items" (whether coal, FXP, or signals). AND it looks like I flubbed my math here...
  • 360 of those 813 "items" were "Coal Bags"
  • 44% of what came from the MRC was Coal.

Hopefully this is more clear. If not I'm just gonna go crawl under a rock...
