Well even after all the responses i got in my last post i still cant make up my mind on which premium ship to buy. Right now the only 2 ships in consideration are the Mass and the Tirp.

I been looking into both and there does not seem to be to much difference between then two. Both have good guns and armor, great secondary weapons. The tirp does have a bit of some gun problems from what i found but as a brawl BB is is not bad.

The difference between the two ships secondarys is the german ones can penetrate but the us cant.

Are there any other major difference between the two? i know there t8 and im not near there in ships yet but i just want to get one for when i get there :)

Mass - better heal (faster cooldown), secondaries are more accurate stock compared to Tirpitz, secondaries have a higher fire chance, you have 406mm guns that are still decently accurate and really hurt when they make contact

Tirpitz - your turrets turn faster (advantage when brawling), your secondaries have better pen, you have a turtleback that lessens your chance of taking citadel damage at brawling range (but you’ll still eat massive pen damage if the enemy knows how to aim), you have torps, your guns reload faster (but 380mm at t8 definitely starts to have overmatch problems quicker than 406s), your shells have a higher velocity (flatter arcs, shorter time to target)

Both ships feel somewhat similar in terms of accuracy, but Tirpitz has a higher chance of over/undershooting (higher shell velocity). Mass ideally needs a dedicated captain since a secondary spec build doesn’t fit the tech tree line (whereas it does for the Germans), but can work perfectly fine with a standard survivability build captain from the tech tree.

Having played both as rentals multiple times, I personally felt Mass was more fun (which is one of the reasons why I bought her instead of Tirpitz with one of my Christmas coupons), and I don’t regret my purchase, but both are good ships. Ultimately it’s a matter of what you think you’d enjoy more, and what you’re looking to use the premium for. If you want a trainer premium for the tech tree line, Tirpitz is definitely the better choice. But if you’re just looking for a fun and effective ship, I’d lean slightly more toward Mass.

You'll need at least a 15 point captain for Massachusetts. I have the ship and I really don't like it. I'd get the Tirpitz but then again you can just get the Bismark. Honestly you should get something different that's not similar to an in game ship.

If this is your reasoning, I recommend neither... You'll will not like high tier just to push out CMs...

High tier games are high caliber gun heavy/dependent... IF you can't or your BB core fail to produce or to do the basic like play domination mode.... Then you will be wasting your money on a port queen...

I, in good faith... Can not recommend a high tier ship just to push out CMs.

I prefer the Tirpitz (I have both) as it’s a good captain trainer if your going to go up the German BB line. With its torps you have extra “meat” to add to your brawling capabilities. Massachusetts needs a dedicated captain to get the full potential out of it.

The current meta doesn’t favor brawlers but Tirpitz hands-down for me!

Mass and Mass Black have a 54.38% and 56.73% win rate the last 2 month respectively. Usually when we see ships of this preformance, they get pulled from the shop.Untitled.thumb.jpg.3ed9122bd396fdd377e6ba4222881fe8.jpg

As I outlined in my other thread that I linked to you, why not answer these questions:

  • Are you going to grind American Battleships or German Battleships first?
    • This, imo, is the main choice that will determine what you buy.
  • Do you want a 'pure' captain trainer, or do you want a premium ship that plays differently from the tech tree line but requires a specialised captain?
    • If the former, opt for Tirpitz; if the latter, then opt for Massachusettes.

Seems like you have already made up your mind on the other key questions, such as ship type, tier and cost etc.

Both Mass and tirpitz are awesome ships.  Tirptiz has armor to avoid being cit and torpedos *that tend to break easy if you dont protect them* with good secondaries.  Mass has better guns, heal and secondaries but worse armor/cit protection.   I would say which do you need a trainer for the most and get that one  first, then get the other later down the line.

No matter which  way you go you are getting a great ship.  Tirpitz is a monster in things like T8 ranked thanks to torps and secondaries, if you spec IFHE you can get a ton of pen dmg with them.  Mass you want to spec secondary with demo expert to up fire chance and go for setting lots of fires.  IFHE used to be good on mass but if i remember right it doesnt break the pen barrier like it used to so its better to go with fires now *correct me if im wrong guys*.

I would get Tirpitz now. The Mass got nerfed with the IFHE changes. When uptiered, its secondaries do basically nothing to enemy BBs.

The tirpitz at least has torps.

We had a tier 8 ranked sprint with 1 vs 1, a little while back. The Tirpitz domminated.

Most of the "missions" are for tier 6 or 7 ships. I'd recommend Scharnhorst and Dunkerque or Arizona over the Tirpitz or Massachusetts. I personally use Dunkerque or Warspite for the t6 missions and Gneisenau for the t7 ones. If you're referring to campaigns, I wouldn't bother with a battleship. I'd get a cruiser. Some of those campaigns require a cruiser or carrier to complete the star.

This would be a terrible mistake.

You're not ready for these ships yet, and you won't be ready until you're at least up to Tier 7 with several ships.

Work on your tech-tree ships first, and consider what premiums you can save coal towards by always selecting "more resources" in your daily crates.

I would want at least one battleship, cruiser and destroyer at Tier 7 before I even considered buying a T8 premium (unless there was a discount sale and the price was very, VERY cheap). I played this game for 9 months before putting so much as a single cent towards it, and I did reasonably well. The stuff the FTP crowd has available to it now is much, MUCH better than when I first joined a little under three years ago.

Don't go spending on a T8 premium battleship at this stage of the game. You will end up disappointed and disillusioned, and your teams won't thank you.

Mass has better AA than the Tirpitz, right?

I'd go with Mass. Screw the CVs a bit harder. :Smile_izmena::Smile_playing:

I'd choose Tirpitz.  She has turtleback armour scheme, torpedos for fun, and decent secondaries too.

For the Massachusetts to be fully effective she has to close the distance for her secondaries reach. Until then, she will be pounded from all sides.  By the time she is at her secondary range, she will be too battered and bruised to be returning the pounding given.

No, they implemented the IFHE change. Ergo, she will still be on sale for quite some time.

Rule of Thumb for higher tier acquisitions and Random play (see Note):  Don't invest in a ship at a tier beyond a tier you have not already reached via the grind.  Even then, only if you feel like you're preforming well in the one tier below with same type of ship.

Note:  Bring whatever you want in  Co-op.

From personal experience, I prefer Bismarck over Tirpitz.  I'm a KM brawler and find hydro much more valuable than torps.  I take on DDs and torp-firing CAs all the time in my brawl game....hydro makes a BIG difference in detecting and combing torps.  It also has a collateral plus as it will help friendlies around me, often my own DDs, beat the torps as well.

I have fun in the Mass too.

Mass. The 150s on the KM ships are great, but the main guns and AA on Mass are much better, and the secondaries are probably better

I love them both

I have both, and both are very good ships.

Tirpitz does very well with a skipper that is relevant to the tier 8 and up tech tree German BBs - while the full secondary spec skipper you'll want for Mass isn't the best choice for the higher tier US BBs.

However, Mass has better survivability, harder hitting guns and much better AA - and the skipper you'll want for her will work great on Georgia, as well.

I would recommend Mass, though - she is an absolute monster in her tier spread - and far more useful when uptiered than Tirp.

Check my battles count, I guess I'm a more experienced player lol

Please listen to those who advise you against buying a high tier premium ship that early in your WoWs career. I'm at tier 5 in tech tree ships myself now. I'm doing more or less fine in them, but nowhere close to even consider trying tier 8 battles.

I bought tier 8 premium ship I wanted (Mainz, as the line I enjoy the most now is German cruisers). The only reason I did it is that WG was too generous to give me a 200% cashback coupon with 3 or 4 days of expiration period, and I felt it would be a waste to not use it, or almost a waste to use it on a less expensive lower tier ship.

I tried Mainz in co-op. Got instantly deleted by two salvos from tier 9 bot. I'm back to tier 5 now. :)

I don't know why you think that is a factor...

If the nerf was effecting the Mass so it's win rate was going down, you might have a point. However, the opposite is the case.
