Most decorated ship in US Naval History, took part in just about every major naval engagment in the Pacific. For a time was the only aircraft carrier left in the Pacific. She took everything the Japaense could throw at her time and time again but in the end it was the American peoples wish to forget the war that lead to her demise. Scraped in 1960 after numerous failed attempts to turn her into a muesum. =(

Hopefully not the same fate of her sister CVN65
when she is replaced

what surprised me is how the navy wanted to make it into a memorial and save the ship but when they started the fundraiser for the ship no one paid in and then sip was eventually scraped.
