So... um, how do you counter high tier CVs?

Find an USN cruiser, stay within 2.5km of the cruiser, hope that the player isn't a potato when it comes to AAW.

Take the beating like a man and pretend you are having fun.

Next time you will get the CV..................Oh wait.

In all seriousness, the single most effective counter against air strikes is teamwork, sticking together and coordinating AA defense as a group. With this said, it is also the rarest thing in the game outside of clan battles. as a single ship, the things that you'll want to do is make effective use of priority sectors, and also maneuvering to present the smallest target profile against the planes (bow on for torpedo planes, broadside against dive bombers).

The only thing you can do when bottom tier in a BB against a top tier CV is to stick with as many teammates as possible. Find the nearest group of teammates and help whichever cap they are pushing.

Use Catapult Fighters instead of Spotter planes, use the premium consumables, use the Captain skill that allows 2 cat fighters to be sent up instead of 1, use AA signal flags, and have the BFT skill. Then you need to try and stay at speed so that you can dodge air attacks while your defenses take out the aircraft.

Stay in a group of three or more ships with decent AA. This is especially effective in clan battles. Make the CV weep for all his/her lost planes.... :Smile_trollface:

Your counters are:

- Prey you dont get a battles with CVs;

- Prey the CV is not going to attack you;

- Prey that the enemy CV is a bad player and is going to mess his strikes;

- Join a big blob and play a passive and slow game;

You can take fighter instead of spotter plane and kill some planes. Otherwise the counter is to hope that the CV is incompetent and flies into your flak.

even with a fighter up i can still drop you there way to get around that easy

In a BB, you don't counter, you mitigate. WG has designed it so that a CV will get at least one strike in. Your job is to minimize the damage a CV can do while occupying his time so he can't strike more vulnerable targets. That means if he's coming at you with torps, minimize how many you take and make sure to take them on your torpedo protection so each torp does the least amount of damage. Don't take them on the bow/stern where you have no torpedo protection and it's a flood. In a BB, you're not going to dodge them, your job is to take the least amount of damage from each strike.

If it's bombers, then generally turn broadside so he lands the least amount of hits. If it's rocket planes, then you want to be in line with him so dispersion works against him. Remember a CV is all about DOT damage; his alpha strike is very low. While your dancing around, make sure you're not showing sides where the cits/torps you're going to take from other ships will be much worse.

Also make sure you use priority sector when he is just enters your AA range so you can do the max damage to the planes and blunt follow up strikes. Also in a BB, don't lone wolf. In an IJN BB, don't have the AA to do it. Stay with a group of 3 or 4 other ships so you have overlapping AA. DON'T lemming since while that's effective against CV's your giving up map control. Learn to play in task groups.

Amagi isn't the only thing you've been taking a (severe) beating in.

You don't

Although CV mafia would like to play the victim you just get hit over and over by there "limited" planes 😅

    You can stick together as stated above but teamwork is rare and big groups are awesome targets for your friendly BBS 20km away.

     WG seems to like this.

Queue dodge, or don't play the game.

Take your pick.

I just got through playing a tier 8 double CV battle in a DD without smoke.  Total waste of time. There is no counter against rocket strikes that come every 30 seconds.  It's a total joke. I got off a couple of torps, and was quickly blasted to oblivion by and endless supply of rocket planes and plane spotting. Defensive AA? Yeah right.

The counter for a CV in a match sense is to win the match quicker than he can act. If your CV is worse than the enemy CV, then your team inevitably will take more damage over time and there is only so much you can do- even very good evasion doesn't save you from other members of your team taking damage. Focus down ships and advance your flank(or stall the enemy if they outnumber you). CV has a hard time impacting the match quickly, the best thing you can do to counter a skilled CV is to get a decisive advantage ASAP at which point he will have a very hard time turning things around.

A CV focusing on  you is an opportunity for the rest of your team. Make it difficult for the CV as much as you can.   Next game in that BB against a CV, you are unlikely to face being focused upon.

Happens to every ship in this game periodically.  Same as a BB/DD/Cruiser focusing on one target.

Totally agree.  The reason games have become shorter and shorter is that is the only way to counter a CV who will wither you if you take too much time.  You have to act while you still can.  The game play has suffered as a result.  No more tactics and strategy, just charge while you still have some hp left.

That depends entirely on how skilled the enemy CV is. Against a skilled CV there is no counterplay.
