Lazo was my recent rented ship to expire. I really like this rental system WG has going as I can try them before I decide to buy.

Here is my quick opinion on Lazo:

Coming from a player who never touched RU cruisers, the gun characteristics on the ship are very conformable to use, with the arcs and shell velocity being very manageable to hit targets at max range. Reload time is manageable. However, the base damage seems slightly lacking sometimes and the turret traverse is sluggish even with the Ovechkin cap with improved expert marksman. It really reminds me of Fiji's turret traverse alot. Torpedoes didn't care for much but helped on some occasions.

Agility is meh, but its still able to kite when needed with its awesome firing angles. It helps make up for its meh armor. I just with it was a tad faster but overall not too bad, its workable.

Overall, had a good experience with the ship. Its easy to pick up and use if you position right.

Would I buy it after the rental? Yes, but only if there is a good sale for it, maybe at least 50-40% off. I would not buy this at full price.

Id love to hear your quick takes on this ship too.

I agree but two things to keep in mind:

1) Like all other Soviet CLs you have next to no armor and amazing ballistics - you should be playing at range, where the turret traverse is perfectly fine.

2) Lazo is a tier VII CL with 152mm guns. In the past these ships were always dpependent on IFHE to generate consistent damage production, especially when uptiered. While the recent IFHE/plating changes affected most CLs, tier VIIs were hit especially hard and now struggle against higher tier opponents even with IFHE. Unlike their tier VIII counterparts, they are unable to reach 32mm of HE pen, and they are also more likely to encounter tier VIII+ BBs than their tier VI counterparts.

I received her for free last summer during the Victory event. She is very representative of the tech tree and an excellent trainer for Soviet CL captains. I used to really like her, but I haven’t played her nearly as much since the last patch dropped. As it stands, I wouldn’t buy any tier VII CL for the foreseeable future.

I have several RU cruisers including the premium Lazo & it T6 sister Molotov. I also have the Smolensk. I use the same 19pt commander for the 3 ships to grind elite commander points.

I do run coops & very rarely a random with the Lazo it is good for T7 ops. Doing ops with Hoperations on Discord makes it much easier to play to the Lazo's strengths. While not the best cruiser for Narai, she does well.

A T7 cruiser for less than $20 USD? I don't know.

Uh, the Shchors...tech tree is identical if not better. Get that one for free and buy beer with your new found wealth.

I like my Lazo and play it quite a bit.  Usually, I find I do very well in ships I like, but oddly, though I really like playing Lazo, my stats in the are kinda meh.  Make of that what you will.

Compared to her T7 tech tree compatriot, Lazo has a bit more armor.  She also has just a tad more range, plus a super mutant spotter plane, which gives her around 20 klicks of range, more or less on demand.  She also has Russian rail gun ballistics, so you can actually hit targets at max range.  She mounts the standard Russian cruiser torps, with 4 klick range.  In other words, forget you have torps.

With those characteristics, Lazo should be used as a long range HE spammer.  The flat ballistics aren't amenable to island camping, so you just race around in your backfield raining HE down on anything red that you can see. And with your range, you should have no shortage of target choices.  In fact, you outrange many of your targets - even a few BBs - though not by much.  Still, you can really annoy a BB driver when he gets hit by a CL and finds he needs to close the range before he can shoot back.

You should mostly just ignore you torps, though on those rare, late-game occasions when you can use them, they can be really useful.  They hit hard, and can ruin some one's day.  The problem is that to use them, you have to get suicide-close  So if you use your torps in a game, it usually indicates you were someplace you really shouldn't have been.

All in all, Lazo works well for me.  She did lose out in the recent IFHE/armor changes, but so far, at least, I haven't found those changes to have been fatal to her.  HOWEVER...I haven't played her that all much since the changes, being concentrated atm on advancing a couple other lines.  So take this with a larger than usual grain of salt.

Two words.

Spotter plane.

Lazo's spotter is meme worthy.  It's only down for about 10 seconds.  It gives her excellent range.

Lazo is my go-to cruiser in Narai.  She'll deliver plenty of citadels and she is tailor made for taking out the CV and her escorts.

Use the Shchors Northern Route strategy and you'll be cookin' with gas.  :cap_like:

She's not just another cruiser.  She's a wrecking machine and she's hungry!
