Today Russia announced it would suspend international air travel and with the tournament being held in Yekaterinburg, FIDE decided to stop the 2020 Candidates Tournament after seven rounds complete. For anyone, like myself, that has been following the contest with great interest, this news comes as a great disappointment. However, it is completely understandable, and the players from China, France, and the USA couldn’t be sure when they would otherwise be able to return to their families.

Hopefully, everyone will travel home safely and I’m looking forward to an exciting finish once play resumes. In the meantime, its back to a lot of blitz and plenty of time to prepare for the upcoming US Open this August.

Definitely interesting times we live in right now.

Isn't "May you live in interesting times" an old Chinese curse?
