World of Warships Proposal: Alternate German Destroyer Line

This proposal will serve to introduce a new line of German Destroyers with 150mm guns as their primary armament instead of 128mm guns typically found on these Warships. The line will split from the Tier V T-22 to the Z-3 or Ernst Gaede, and progress to the Z-52 or the Z-60

Technology Tree Layout

Pre-Change Layout

  • VI Ernst Gaede
  • VII Leberecht Maass
  • VIII Z-23
  • IX Z-46
  • X Z-52

Post Change 128mm Destroyers

  • VI Z-3 Max Schultz ( Z1934 with one less gun turret )

  • VII Z-1 Leberecht Maass ( Z1934 as completed)

  • VIII Z-19 Hermann Kune ( Z1936 )

  • IX Z-46 ( Z1936c )

  • X Z-52 ( Z1945)

Post Change 150mm Destroyers

  • VI Ernst Gaede ( with buffed 150mm guns )

  • VII Z-32 ( Z1936a Mob with Z-39 layout )

  • VIII Z-23 (Z1936 “Narvik” with 150mm guns)

  • IX Z-57 ( Z1938 with 150mm guns)

  • X Z-60 ( Z1945 with 150mm guns )

Traits of 150mm-armed German Destroyers

  • Large HP pools compared to their peers

  • Armed exclusively with 150mm guns with a slower reload than their counterparts, but higher shell damage, shell velocity and firing range

  • Weak AA defenses until Tier IX and above

  • Access to Hydroacoustic Search like all high tier German destroyers

  • From Tier VIII onwards, the Torpedoes are the same on ships

  • Worse concealement than their counterparts

  • Destroyers of this line have improved armor sections from Tier IX onwards

  • Destroyers of this line receive improved HE penetration ( 1 / 5 instead of 1 / 6 )

NOTE: ALL STATISTICS ARE FOR FULLY UPGRADED SHIPS WITH NO MODULES OR COMMANDER

Tier VI ( 150mm Branch ): Ernst Gaede

Ernst Gaede will receive the following changes for it’s shift to the 150mm branch

  • HP Pool increased from 15,700 on stock hull to 16,500 and top hull HP pool increased from 16,500 to 17,400

  • Loss of 128mm gun option

  • 150mm gun rotation speed improved from 8*/sec to 9*/sec

  • 150mm gun HE penetration improved from 25mm to 29mm ( 1 / 6 to 1 / 5 caliber penetration )

  • Surface detection range increased from 7.6km to 7.9km

These changes will prepare players for the gameplay of 150mm armed German Destroyers

Tier VI ( 128mm Branch ): Z-3 Max Schultz

The Z-3 will essentially be the Ernst Gaede in it’s current state, but without the 150mm gun option to use in combat.

The 150mm armed German destroyers have a lower rate of fire than their 128mm armed counterparts, but they make up for it with a higher Alpha strike and burst damage courtesy of their 6 inch guns, which also boast improved 1 / 4 IFHE penetration. These destroyers also have substantially larger HP pools than their 128mm counterparts, as well as improved armor starting from Tier IX onwards, which allows them to shatter a large amount of Destroyer caliber HE shells. Unfortunately, they are also extremely wide and very detectable, which means that they are not only easier to spot, but they also suffer an alarming amount of damage from both HE and AP shells. Their maneuverability also suffers, with large turning radii above Tier VIII and slower than average rudder shift times. These ships come equipped with Hydroacoustic Search to alleviate their spotting woes in close-in gunfights and when under danger of being torpedoed, but their weaknesses must be kept in mind when engaging destroyers of equal tier or higher.

Once again, if you have questions, comments, or salt, do leave them in the comments down below

Peace!

Let's see how a heal and improved reload and turret traverse does eh?

Commence the salting I so ritually deserve for doing this.

But to be serious, the 150mm armed German DDs were a novelty, but are only available at three tiers, with two tech tree ships and one premium. doing this would certainly give many players the experience all the way through the tiers without having to shell out doubloons or wait a Tier gap

I like it. A Tier 10 iteration of Flottentorpedoboot T-61 would be tons of fun.

I don't really see the point of the 150mm gunned DD line here.  Beyond having those larger, slower firing, but harder hitting guns, what else do they have going for them, because I just don't see it.  All I see is a waste of time.  At least with a USN DD line split, there'd be two distinct lines.  One a balanced hybrid line and the other a more torpedo oriented line.  But with this second German DD line, I don't see enough to pique the interest of the average player.  I certainly wouldn't be that interested in the big gunned DDs, and would prefer the smaller gunned versions, as they'd be more like proper DDs, rather than overgunned DDs that might get eaten alive in any DD v DD duel.

^^^

I made some changes.

- Tier IX and X now have repair Party

Improved Torpedoes on Tier IX and X

Improved guns

1/4 HE penetration allows for guns to best 38mm armor sections

Honestly I'd say you could give a lot more of the access to repair party. Hell, the current German DD line could really use a British DD repair party to combat the effects of power creep. Other than that, what about a longer range (like 7+ kilometers) hydroacoustic search consumable with a relatively short duration, while the 127mm-armed line uses a much more standard ~5km hydro with a longer up time?
