Our Benson sailed off from the spawn point merrily shooting at islands. I glanced over at him, only to see no flags, no signals, and no camouflage.

He then sailed right past a cap. Well, I thought, c'est la vie in a WOWs game. I was soon too busy playing my game to see what had become of him. To my amazement, this is where he ended up on the team. I guess I shouldn't have pre-judged him.

Sometimes caps are caps, and sometimes they are just DD detectors.

Although I don't do it...very often.  Some DD players shoot to bloom their detection radius as an "early warning" technique.  Two edged sword, as a detect can often get you focused quick...but if it comes back clear it gives you very good intel by expanding the swath of sea where no enemy resides.

Interesting, I never thought of that.

If I had a nickel for every time I was yelled at for not getting in a cap as a DD...

TBH, a good DD driver and I'm not saying they are a good one, they may have gotten lucky, but a good DD driver would not hurry to a cap. And TBH, looking at the ships you had, Tier X and such, he was probably trying to be a bit cautious...

Poor DD drivers often will go cap right away and get blapped...

honestly, they may as well take the multi-cap mode out, the caps are more useful as DD/ship detectors than a constant stream in of points nowadays

I, too, shoot at islands at the start of a match. And also open water. After all, if you don't show those inanimate objects and/or fishes who's boss, who will?!
