Are Narai ships coded to focus an Atlanta?

Every time I take this out into Narai I get repeatedly focused any time more than a few enemy ships are in range.

I just had a game where the Missouri wave all focused me despite me sitting at the back of the convoy as I was trying to repair, the Missouri ending up blowing me away while ignoring everything else we had there, battleships, cruisers & our transports.

Earlier today I was getting focused at the end of the game as well.

Whenever there is a damaged green ship, all bots focus on it. Figure it is in the program.

I know it feels like it is, but it's probably more like the combination of low health pool and cruiser-sized detection range.

I've had the same thing happen to me in a DD if one of the closer bot CLs spots me---the Missouri stops whatever it's doing and drops some 16-inch packages on me.

They tend to focus on the lowest xp ship or the closest low xp ship. Try watching a couple videos.

I take both the Flint and the ATL.. I dont feel targeted... Here is some advice...

  • Make sure there is terrain in front of you and the bots...
  • DDs or cruisers should be laying down smoke to break concealment.
  • Make sure a BB is ahead of you at all times...
    • If unable, at least When the MO is sunk.
  • If you have low HP... Angle.. Bots aim for broadsides, if you time it right and angle... Shots are less damaging.
  • If you have low HP, you will be targeted regardless if your an ATL or a BB... So take the necessary precautions as needed/noted above.
  • Always as a goal, break LOS with a red AI ship at all times. Failure to do so and well, GL.

Hope this helps.... Test it out, it takes time to use the above tools... I hope it helps.

I have both as well and no, the Atlanta or Flint aren't "targeted" that I have experienced.

I think that since both of the ships are squishy to begin with, a good idea is to not take damage BEFORE you head off to the transports or carrier.  As said in the quote is great advice.  Always fight in the shadow of a larger combatant or terrain...!!!

Remember, the AI evaluates "damage" and that makes you target number 1 !!!  Play smart and always:  "fight where the enemy isn't..."

From experience I do think the bot targeting AI is heavily based on the HP total of the ship. Therefore DDs will likely be targeted first and Atlanta et al will be high on the list due to low HP compared to other cruisers. Wounded ships tend to get focused down. I don't know if it has a "juicy target" (broadside or just squishy),  range or time to get the guns on target factors built in. It does seem there is some coordination factor as multiple bots will instantly target the same ship even though it is not the best target for many of them and they were previously targeting other ships. Maybe being targeted by one ship raises your "target value" by one (for each ship targeting you) so it becomes almost a feedback loop.

I also know there is a line in the code that says: IF PLAYER NAME LIKE "SABOT%" SET TARGET_VALUE + 100;

If I'm driving an Atlanta and get spotted, EVERYBODY tries to blow me away, likewise, if I see an Atlanta, I make it a priority to blap. Maybe bots have just as much an aversion to getting burnt down that humans do.

Bots often like to focus on lowest HP ships, and among Tier VII Cruisers eligible for Narai, she has one of the lowest HP pools pool.

Myoko and her clones 39.2k HP

Zara & Gorizia 37.1k HP

"Lazy" Lazo 36.3k HP

"Winfast" 35.7k HP

Algerie 35.6k HP

NOLA 35k HP

Helena & Boise & NdJ 33.3k HP

Yorck 32.6k HP

"Blow me up plz" Abruzzi 32.5k HP

Schors 32.2k HP

Fiji 31.4k HP

Atlanta 27.5k HP

The DD players tend to be smoked up or undetected.

BBs got tons of HP, so the bots ignore them sometimes.

So that leaves Cruisers who are the ones typically spotted (unlike DDs) and since they have considerably lower HP than Battleships, the bots like to focus Cruisers down.  And of all those listed Cruisers, Atlanta has by far the lowest HP pool even at max health.  So yes, the bots will focus Atlanta down if they got LOS.

In an Atlanta, you should be knocking off a secondary Star on a flank. Missouri is not your prey.

After you sink the red CV and escorts, park your Atlanta behind the big island and rain destruction on red bots in harbor. They have never targeted me.

or

After you sink all the red transports, go into the harbor behind the center island. It's a good location for ambushing the red bots.

I wouldn't worry about Narai too much. WeeGee is pulling it to *fix* it, no word on when it will be back. Considering how little effort they are putting into PvE these days, the best estimate would be soon™.

Little Trouble Blapped a Atlanta that was in the middle of the group in a game last night, no idea if it was damaged or not but it came around the corner and BOOM

She'll go for the Atlanta because ATL has the lowest HP of all the Cruisers this tier by a very significant margin.  See my prior post.  It becomes abundantly clear why the bots will focus Atlanta down.

I pretty much only play Narai in my Atlanta, and I've ran it once or twice. From my personal experience it does seem like the ships in the harbor love to target me, regardless of pretty much anything else. I've had full health, low health, 9 kills and 2 achievements or 4 kills that I basically stole from other ships. They just love to kill me.

Just a couple recent matches, the second set is from when they actually left me alone but the fleet didn't listen.

A full health Atlanta is still drastically lower in HP than the other Tier VII Cruisers.  Max HP is 27.5k HP and the next lowest Cruiser is Fiji at 31.4k HP.  She's going to get focused by virtue of having low HP.  Meanwhile Fiji has smoke to help survive as well as repair party to top off her HP.

I was wondering about that the last time I played it.  No matter where I was they all concentrated fire on me.

Atlanta can do awesome, it just requires a lot of pre-planning and careful positioning, as others have stated so knowing the map and timing of when the the bots appear is helpful.  I have the 13 km range on mine and it seems to help in some situations in Narai, allowing me to stay under cover and still contribute to the team results.  Being able to spam HE from cover is essential at some points in the game, but if I'm in a match where everyone is hanging back, I've been known to torp the Missouri by getting into position at the central island and waiting for it to come out to play; then getting out of Dodge as quickly as possible behind the island.  If played to her strengths she is a wonderful ship in Narai.  Mistakes in positioning and timing can be punished hard, but you can say the same for most Cruisers.  I'm looking forward to the Flint coming to the Armoury in the future, should be fun times.

Using Flint or Atlanta in Narai I tend to go for the CV. To be successful really needs you to go dark, or be extremely careful, after the initial skirmishes. If you don't do this then the MO and her chums will definitely have a go at you. Once you get behind the island with the base on the other side you should be good to go and just wait for the CV train to get trashed by your self. Then do some HE spam from smoke/behind the island and you will score well.

Isn't there also a bot preference to shoot at ships with torpedos over ships without first?

Lowest HP is what they often like to focus on.  I've had my Battleship literally be within 2km of bot ships, but they ignore me to shoot at a lower HP Cruiser 15km+ away.  And when it comes to Cruiser HP, see my earlier post about that.  Atlanta has by far the lowest HP pool of Tier VII Cruisers.  It's not even close.

This is why you see some smarter Atlanta players, for the last part of Narai, shoot from the southern bay where the transports originate, to help in the last phase of the mission.  They fire from over the islands, disrupting LOS to them.  The moment they show themselves in the larger bay, they get focused.

Short answer: Yes.  Bots focus the ship with the least HP that they can see.  DDs would be, but they're not easily spotted.  Damaged cruisers best hide.

Even a Full HP Atlanta is still less HP than a dinged up New Orleans, Zara, Myoko, etc. :Smile_veryhappy:

A Zara that has lost about 30% of its HP is barely under Atlanta's max HP :Smile_hiding:

When Missouri comes around, Cruisers be like:
