There isn't a single DD that can beat the Friesland in a knife fight. Smoke, hydro, devastating HE shells with the SHORTEST reload in the game not even 2 seconds. High health pool. It's just overpowered period.

But it can be out spotted easy by many DD's. I have killed several in Cossack. Its detection is not all that low and if sitting in smoke it's a sitting duck for torps or a rush. It does have a fast reload but very floaty inaccurate shells. Just bum rush it changing coarse a lot and nail it with torps once spotted. I also have Friesland, and while I do like her, she has several weaknesses that can be exploited. Try and team up with a radar cruiser, they are the death of Friesland.

It is a terror in the hands of better players but pretty average in the hands of those that are lesser players but that better players do better part applies to all ships. Now if you want to complain about over powered try the Neustrashimy

Didn't we say our goodbyes when you quit the game last thread?

Seriously, git gud. Friesland is a good ship but has plenty of weaknesses, not OP.

Ya learn something new every day.

Originating (presumably) on the World of Warcraft forums, this is an essentially derogatory concept some people employ that means that all that a certain class must do in order to achieve success in the game is to bind every key on their keyboard to one ability that is perceived to be overpowered, and then continue to roll their face across the keyboard. The notion is that this one ability is so amazingly overpowered in relation to those of other classes, all one has to do is absently spam it as much as possible (and they might as well do it with their face, because there isn't any other use for the big stupid thing on top of their shoulders).

I wouldn't really use this term for Friesland though.

If you picked up a fight with a full HP Friesland or were within 5km of its smoke and got Hydroed it's your mistake.

What Friesland excells at is punishing dumb plays.

Also AP Daring>all.

always take a look to the WoWS Global Wiki https://wiki.wargaming.net/en/Ship:Ships_of_Europe

'Friesland is an odd-ship, in that her playstyle tends to drift toward that of a gunship destroyer or cruiser. Her gun range must be upgraded to achieve her full potential, and even then, she will likely struggle against ships such as Khabarovsk or Harugumo. Without torpedoes, she is reliant on rapid-firing small-caliber guns. These guns have decent velocity for short-range engagements but tend to have longer flight times at greater ranges. This means that Friesland is reliant on her agility and speed to dodge incoming fire. Her concealment is poor, although she really has no need for it because, in order to deal any damage, she has to fire her guns. She can provide smoke to teammates and has a decent anti-aircraft armament, making her a viable escort ship. For anything other than division play, captains will need to maintain a high level of situational awareness.'

...except that Friesland doesn't have much of either. LOL.

Honestly, this is a challenging ship to excel in, but once you start making it work, then it does feel overpowered to the people you ambush. When I am able to use obstacles or enemy smoke clouds to sneak up to within a few km of enemy dds, then, yes, it must feel very op, but when I get outspotted by every dd on the other team (happens a lot) then it feels not so much. It's a very unique ship that's a ton of fun to play, but I'd say with 6.4 km best detection at tier ix, its pretty well balanced. And don't get me started on getting caught in radar with 36-ish knot max speed and no speed boost to escape. The ship has made me play better.

well, I've never used it, not yet, but if it is challenging, it's on my short DD list...pushing right now on both IJN DD tech trees, and on the RN...I bet that on a knife fight, the Kitakaze (using the Main Battery Modification-3) with her 1000m/s initial shell velocity can compensate for  Friesland better shell damage ...assuming that player's experience is not an issue..

Definitely love friesland. It can do some wacky stuff. A strong ship in the right hands. You can chew through 40-60k on a bb in no time flat and if your aim is good, DDs melt in seconds. I ate a Tashkent once in about 10 seconds at very close range. He got me for 5k. And when you pull off a hydro ambush it is so fun. Strongly recommend.
