INB4 "but muh strafe". Strafe doesn't exist anymore and is not a valid argument against the squadron control scheme we have now.  The damage potential of an unchallenged CV can be huge.

WG wouldn’t want that, that’d make the skill gap increase ;(

What if player controlled fighters didn't require any more skill than using the current attack planes?  What if fighters couldn't be spammed out to deplane the enemy CV?

My guess is that the WoWP devs don't want this in WoWs.

Stepping on their toes and all that.

Not sure you could make player controlled fighters effective, and prevent one CV from deplaning the other at the same time. A CV can be deplaned by a surface ships already, with little influence from the other CV.

The current system (ships AA and patrol fighters v/s CV) is almost entirely automated, and has predictable results. If CV's are doing too much damage, Buff AA, or if CV's are doing to little, Nerf AA. Good or bad use of patrol fighters is only a small variable.

Adding player controlled fighters, if they are actually worth using, opens you up to having 3 basic scenarios,

  1) Average CV + surface ship AA v/s average CV giving the desired results.

  2) Good CV + surface ships AA v/s bad CV,  Bad CV gets deplaned and good the good CV player gets to do a lot of damage. See pre-rework CV's.

  3) The CV's say to heck with the teams, and just farm damage on the other fleet while providing no support means all surface ships take a lot of damage. See what happens when two old strike Lexington's ignore each other and just go killing surface ships.

This is unless you want to see 3 v/s 3 CV matches every game so that the skilled and less so players can even each other out.

At this point, I see little reason to add them since this is not World of Warplanes. There are four altitudes in this game (probably more). Underwater, ship height, plane attack height, and plane cruising height.

It could work  as long as the rule goes away that every fighter which destroys a plane does not magically explode like they do now.

I am rather annoyed with that particular aspect,    of fighters.  WHY do they have to explode on enemy plane kill?   My ship will launch 5 fighters so at best they can shoot down 5 out of 9-12 attackers ?  thats just crazy.

Changes id like to see to fighters:

- Fighters regain the ability to disrupt the aim of the enemy attackers.  Just like they used to do.  The effectiveness could be reduced a little bit.

- A ship can launch 1 fighter for defense - this fighter can be shot down if the attackers can fight back.  Just like they used to do

- Fighter immediately heads to engage enemies entering the airspace around the ship not waiting 5 stupid seconds.

What this will accomplishes is that fighters regain the ability to help the ship they are defending. Also the attacking CV will not loose as many aircraft in an attack.    So the ship is defended better while the CV doesn't loose as many planes.

- CVs can assign fighter squadron  not only to a map position but to follow and guard a friendly ship so that ships are not restricted in their movements.    Fighter squadrons have the same effect disrupting enemy aim .

Overall this will create a more interesting 2 tiered fighter defense.
