I hope we see the release of USS California tomorrow. She was released from the yard Jan 1944 after being rebuilt.

If there wasn't a more appropriate day to launch her...

Let's see if this is a another missed opportunity.

On a dark desert highway, cool wind in my hair.

Warm smell of Colitas, rising up through the air.

Up ahead in the distance, I saw a shimmering light.

My head grew heavy and my eyes grew dim, I had to stop for the night.

There she stood at the doorway, I heard the mission bell.

I was thinking to myself this could be heaven or this could be hell.

Then she lit up a candle, and showed me the way.

There were voices down the corridor, I thought heard them say.

Welcome to the Hotel California.

Such a lovely place. Such a lovely face.

Plenty of room at Hotel California.

Any time of year, you can find it here.

Her mind is Tiffany-twisted, she got the Mercedes Benz.

She got a lot of pretty, pretty boys, that she calls friends.

How they dance in the courtyard, sweet summer sweat.

Some dance to remember, some dance to forget.

So I called up the Captain.

'Please bring me my wine.'

He said, 'we haven't had that spirit here since 1969.

And still those voices are calling from far awayyyy.

Wake you up in the middle of the night, just to hear them say.

Welcome to the Hotel California. Such a lovely place, such a lovely face.

They're livin it up at the Hotel California. What a nice surprise, bring your alibis.

Mirrors on the ceiling, the pink champagne on ice.

And she said, 'we are all just prisoners here, of our own device.'

And in the Master's chambers,

They gathered for the feast.

They stab it with their steely knives, but they just can't kill the beast.

Last thing I remember, I was running for the door.

I had to find the passage back to the place I was before.

'Relax' said the nightman,

'We are programmed to receive.

You can check out any time you like, but you can never leave.'

Lyrics by The Eagles, sung by me in my office.

My coworkers think I am going to sing another song. I see lighters held up high.

I am glad it's at work. LOL

Yes, let's see what happens. 😎🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🎤🔧🛠️⚙️🔩🗜️🎸

Yep her Leone and Paulo Emilo are all way behind their release schedules, But don't worry I'm sure wargaming  has other priorities like you know re skinning more tech tree boats to sell as premiums long before they release

I think that the Leone at least has an excuse (probably), given that she was (IIRC) universally panned by the NA CC's.  As I recall, she's supposed to be a tier 6 DD, and it seemed like the Leone would have been terrible even as a tier 5 DD.  So, I'm left wondering if the devs had to go back to the drawing board on her.

Given that the ARP return seems to be in line for tomorrow, I really doubt Cali is going to show up. Not really the end of the world in my book, all of the USN Standards are generally in need of some help and maybe a conceptual rethink (in terms of balancing). WG's just taken so many of their contemporaries that were just as slow as they were and given them made up refits that boost their speeds to WWII BB levels that the poor USN Standards are left in the dust because 'history'. If they had more competition that was just as slow as they are, they wouldn't be so bad, because everything else would also be on par.

As to what I suggest to try to bring them up to date, I'd like to see the idea of a 'doom-turtle' explored. They keep the historical speed, but get the accuracy and reload speed to make them able to tear things up once they do get in range. I feel like they are still being held to their old status as the brawlers, which was the postion they held back before the Germans were added. After the Germans showed up with their boosted speeds, heavy secondaries, and main guns geared for close action, the USN Standards really started to suffer, a situation that got even worse when the French BBs showed up, and the nail in the coffin was the Russian BB line. At this point there is no reason to play a USN Standard type BB, as there is nothing they can do that some other BB line can't do better. IJN gets long range accuracy, Germans and French can brawl, Russians get close and mid range accuracy, RN gets HE, and almost everything can match the AA and outrun the USN BBs. They really bring nothing to the table anymore outside US pride and they even make a poor showing of that. Admittedly, from NC on up, the USN is doing just fine, but from NY to Colorado, they really are quite horrible to play anymore, even in co-op or ops.

Sadly, that song represents another California. I lived in the modern incarnation - beautiful as the state remains, I never, ever want to go back.

Interestingly, it is the only ship in the extended tech tree that doesn't show "soon", "test ship". It actually has a doubloon price of 9500 on it.

Sad but true. There's nothing wrong with California as a geographical thing.

It's just that so many Californian's live there.

And rather than amend their ways, they just keep on with the same crazy. They even export it.

No

Better balance and delay than a rushed release

Graf Zeppelin was a harsh yet valuable lesson

California is in a treacherous spot being a 356mm armed BB at 21kts 20.5kts (Colorado is faster at 21kts :Smile_teethhappy:) and having a wonderful 25mm bow and a fat hull and superstructure that invites HE & AP Pens all over the place.

I'm pretty sure it's talking about the same diseased California that exists today

That answers that. WG, once again missed a historical opportunity to release a ship on a date that has historical significance to that ship. How much more significant can you get than floating your California '44 on the anniversary of California being put back into service?
