WG, Give IJN a unique 'Hybrid' warship line rather than a light cruiser line.

IJN was the only force to experiment with many wild concepts and field several of them. So, instead of IJN getting a light cruiser line, they should get an 'Hybrid Warship' line.

 

This new line would have ships of different class and functions, meaning players would likely assign captains to each and would be coming back to play the lower tier ships because they are simply that unique (rather than just grinding through the line to top tier transferring their captain with it as they go up the line). 

This Hybrid Warship line would start at tier 6, branching off from the Cruiser and Destroyer line. Unlike other ship lines, you do not need to go UP this line to unlock its ships. You have to have unlocked a ships that this Hybrid warship gets its 'DNA' from. 

 

Tier 6:

DNA Requirement: Cruiser and Destroyer tier 6 unlocked.

Hybrid Warship: Agano light cruiser.

This is a light cruiser armed with Long Lance (20km) torpedoes.Of course, these torps for this ship would do significantly lower damage than the late tier counterparts.  

 

Tier 7 :

DNA Requirement: Cruiser Tier 7 unlocked.

Hybrid Warship: Kitakami Torpedo Cruiser.

A bulk-torpedo armament light cruiser. Was once in game but removed. Bring it back for this line but lower torpedo damage by half and increase torpedo range to 12km.  

 

Tier 8 :

DNA Requirement: Cruiser AND Carrier line Tier 8 unlocked.

Hybrid  Warship: Mogami Aviation Cruiser. Aft turrets replaced with aircraft launch and recovery.

Player can launch one 'loiter scout' that circles around it permanently and it only reports contacts..ship carries 2 replacements for it. It can also launch a scout plane which is a single airplane that is controlled  that player should be able to swap between controlling the ship and controlling the plane by using the 'switch turret view' key ...since this ship only has forward turrets it should work nicely. When plane is not being controlled by player it will automatically loiter flying in a circle. Scout plane only reports contacts in minimap, it does not provide targeting info for team. It carries 2 replacement scout planes. (total 3 planes for each).

Scout planes cannot deploy fighters nor obviously attack...and they only share spotting data on minimap. However, Scout planes would have an unlimited use consumable ability that 'tags' a single target ship. That 'tag' debuffs the target's stealth and -dispersion of enemy shells bonuses while it is active. 

Mogami's spot in the heavy cruiser line is replaced with its sister ship IJN Suzuya. Its a mere name change. 

 

Tier 9  

DNA Requirement: Tier 9 Battleship AND Tier 8 Carrier unlocked.

Hybrid Warship: Aviation Battleship Ise.

Ise enters the Hybrid Warship line as a battleship carrier with strong AA and a special AA consumable tied to her main guns. Its BB main guns are mostly obsolete for tier 9 to fight other battleships as they are 2x14 inch turrets (forward turrets only, the rear turrets removed for aircaft launch) but its functional vs cruisers and destroyers. Ise's main gun should be given the same treatment Yoshino guns have.. cruiser-like accuracy and a faster reload (like 20 seconds). 

The special AA consumable is the San Shiki AA shell (basically a super-flak burst that makes your main guns reload when you use them and you cant use them if your main guns are not loaded).  

ISE carries HE dive bombers only and its aircraft resupply rate is slower than that of a normal carrier (25% slower?).  When player launches the dive bombers he should be able to swap between controlling the ship and controlling the planes by using the 'switch turret view' key ...since this ship only has forward turrets it should work nicely. ISE dive bombers cannot deploy fighters as this ship didn't carry any. 

 

Tier 10:

DNA Requirement: Tier 10 Submarine AND tier 8 Cruiser unlocked.

Hybrid Warship: I-401.

The only aircraft-carrying submarine of its type to be fitted with snorkels. This sub has 8 forward torps, no aft torps, a horribly wide turn circle and slow rudder and is slow underwater compared to any other sub. However it can launch and recover a single scout plane (player should be able to swap between controlling the ship and controlling the planes by using the 'switch turret view' key ...since this ship only has forward torps as weapon mounts it should work nicely)  and has 4 of them in reserve (total 5).  When plane is not being controlled by player it will automatically loiter flying in a circle.

Scout planes cannot deploy fighters nor obviously attack...and they only share spotting data on minimap. However, Scout planes would have an unlimited use consumable ability that 'tags' a single target ship. That 'tag' debuffs the target's stealth and -dispersion of enemy shells bonuses while it is active. 

(Of course, this ship has to surface to launch planes. I refuse to believe WG will be so stupid as to end up making subs not be able to run on the surface once they are introduced into the game).

I like the idea of the CL mixed with multiple Shimakaze design also know as the  Kitakami class. Just add it back onto the game, give it the option to choose between 12km or 20km torpedoes, or 10km and 20km would be ok as well.

Still an absolutely frightening thought at T7. 

20km long lance torps against lowly T5 ships?  Heck, those torps would almost be able to hit the enemy spawn from the start of the match on maps like Big Race.

So? they have the same very long reload time. Their damage is noticeably reduced too..there will be a balancing to it. The main advantage is range and that cruiser doesnt have many torps to fire. Its a weenie light cruiser with a long range torpedo is all. 

Kitakami gets 12km torps only and their damage is much reduced compared to its original release version. Again, its balancing stuff. The point is to have this unique ship available.

I was thinking more along the lines of tier 8+ if it gets 20km torps. Would be great for those Bab camping matches in tier X to dissed BBs from pulling those camp out as well as cruisers for that matter as you could blanket areas with 40 torpedoes.

Thing is, Asashio already kind of fills this role, and it's questionable how effective it is against camping.
