Unfortunately it came with some abomination called a "Hawkins".

A tier 5 that gets up tiered to 7 (even in PVE) so it faces Helenas, Nagatos, Myokos and Sinops, ridiculous gun arcs, anemic torps and stupidly long reload for such a low caliber gun.

Next time just the Port Slot, OK?

Tanks has been doing that for years....for xmas at that.

It is not so bad.  I would rather have Hawk over some others, especially for free!

on paper, Hawkins has a lot going for it.

Heal, at a tier where only 2 other cruisers have one? Check

an insane armor scheme that makes Furutaka look unarmored? Check.

Overmatch 13mm of armor, ie same tier cruisers? Check

comes with one of the best event perma camos they've ever done? Check

However, she has two big flaws that wouldn't be so bad if they didn't correspond with each other and/or one of them didn't exist, but they are both there.

1. Horrendous firing angles on the back turrets. Not too bad, however...

2.

that lighter color orange (64mm thick) and the brighter orange (76mm thick) is the citadel. Almost makes Emerald's citadel look small. That 64mm plating is so bad IFHE Yorck can HE citadel it, as can 406mm armed BBs without IFHE.

But good bye snowflake the next time they roll around, or half the credits in a loss to buy it back.

Since he sold it he can get it again.

Yes, but ships sell for half the credits that you have to pay to buy them back.

If you ever buy back a ship that you have sold, it is always a credit loss.  Not to mention that if he uses that port slot to for a different ship, he is going to sell that one too, to free up the slot to buy it back.

Selling ships that you are ever going to use in the future is just really bad for your in game economics.

It's a tier 5, hardly something to miss or care about even for snowflakes.

They are often coal rewards for T5 ships.  I care about coal.

To each their own of course but I keep all my T5+ ships.  Especially now that WG is giving out port slots for free again.

If you have the option of freeing a port slot from a tier 5 in order to fit in a tier 8-10 sometime later in the future especially anticipating future events like snowflakes or anniversary, then the tier 5 becomes expendable and forgettable.

Yep. I have most of not all of the T5 ships in port ready for anything ....from My beloved Kamikaze R blue wave camo edition to my ARP Kongo sisters....all of em. You just never know.

That's including the Exeter I got for free from a gift crate sent over from a friend on the forums.

This.

No matter what discount might be offered, nothing is ever cheaper than ‘free.’ (Outside the token or doubs for the draw chance, I suppose.)

Sometimes challenging yourself in a poor boat is fun in itself.

Yep. Like outscoring every single T7 and getting top spot in a win in my Konigsburg recently.

And...?

That sounds like a plus to me; I like Emerald.

And high explosive ammunition that can start fires at range.

I had a very good battle in my Hawkins earlier tonight.  Did 69k damage with 3 kills in a (victorious) tier 7 battle.

Sure, the Hawkins' gun angles are ugly, but it's a WW1 era cruiser for crying out loud.  Of course, they're bad.  Lots of tier 5 ships have ugly firing arcs.  You do the best you can with the tools you're stuck with.  Overall, I can't complain much about the Hawkins.  Its HE hits hard, and the AP isn't all that bad either.  And the guns seem pretty accurate, if a bit short ranged.

I meant that he can get it out of another crate.
