Hopefully they stay in testing for at least another 2 years. (at least)

Something about summer but only in scenarios first. Don't worry, they will be added. WG used up so many resources for this, they make it into randoms, don't care how badly balanced they are.

A lot of us are just as ready for the big sub drop. Last I heard they were not going to show up in Randoms or CO-OPs but in their own separate section, is that still happening?

I see subs suffering the same problem as CV's did. Unless WG makes it worthwhile only those interested in playing subs will take part in the testing. Players look to exploit the good and hide the bad. This will produce inaccurate test data.

This. Everyone hopes that subs can sail across the map unspotted and sink any ship that pass by.

I didn't play the special test server, so my impression is only from what I read here or on reddit.

All the builds were either total boring or total broken.

Still in testing. Stay tuned.

This^^^

We have UK CAs for the next two patches and probably EU DDs after that.

Hopefully, they stay in their own mode permanently.

Personally, I would make subs start at T3/4 and be in every tier to T10 (7-8 subs per line). Then add Escorts (DEs) for all the nations starting at T4/5 in every tier to T10 (6-7 Escorts per line). Then you get two sets of ships to introduce and you can have the sub battle mode be only subs vs Escorts & DDs, so they will be easier to balance around historical stats. If you have to have big ships for the subs to shoot at, add in bot CL/CAs, BBs and CVs.

lols.

Have any of you watched a video on Sub play for more than three minutes without falling asleep?

The last one I watched suggested that players with toasters for PCs might find sub play optimal.

There's at least two patches with UK CAs, then there's the April Fools' patch, and I haven't seen the 'main theme' for that one.

They suspect they will find a way to do some public submarine testing in a special mode or two or three built around April Fools'/Space.

As for as actual release?  No idea yet.

Doing April Fools as a sub test would be a good idea, assuming that subs are ready for a public test.

Well, in an April Fools' setting, they could do a pretty intensive test of a small set of features to gather data, if they felt the need, w/o having to 'follow the script' to integrate them into anything else.

They already passed the public test w/the Halloween scenario.

I'm sure if an April Fool's scenario is going to be done the parameters will be different so as to make them more adjustable for randoms eventually (the Halloween mode was definitely not balanced for that) but proof of concept for a scenario passed w/flying colors.

There is no time frame, and the test mode that will hit the live server (at some point in the future) will be a random battle format.  At least that was the plan.

I 'd guess WG might be struggling with interest in testing.  The first round of testing was the only one that had much discussion here.  After that it's been pretty much crickets.  I don't know if it will get much better whenever the testing lands on the live server.  I got an invite for the last round of testing but my interest has long since faded, and I'm someone that likes the idea of subs in the game.

Its sort of funny, I remember seeing one of the devs taking about subs and he was optimistic about them moving through the early testing, and onto the live test quickly.

Oh sure, if they felt the need for more open testing. Problem with the testing is that it takes away from playing the live game and the test rewards are not good enough to offset that.

I would not be surprised if that happens.

Yeah, the proof of concept is there, the balance vs all the ship types at once is the problem IMO. That could use some testing, maybe. Depends on if the balance is mature enough yet. From the videos I've seen, I'm not sure on that.

I'm not sure what to read into the silence surrounding subs from WG.

I'm one that doesn't think subs can be merged into this game without huge balance problems so my outlook is very pessimistic. I do not believe CV's are anywhere near balanced.

If I were to be screaming about the class of ships I have the most problems with I would be all over DD's. They are very hard for me to play well and good DD drivers make it seem as if they have cloaking devices & homing torpedoes.

Few CV's give me problems.

Most of those players that actually do any testing are just considered fodder & their results are just as meaningful as bots but actual testers look to exploit for the purposes of supplying data to the devs about the exploits so they can be fixed.

It's easy for them to tell the difference...the ones that report bugs are the ones whose comments they follow up on...but fortunately sometimes people only looking to exploit for their own gains give comments that direct them to some of the bugs inadvertantly (usually while complaining about how said "feature" only works occasionally & should be "fixed" so it works all the time). That's one of the reasons why they have surveys about the testing afterwards.

Yes,  water is wet & ice is cold. Now that we got the extremely obvious out of the way we can look back at the CV rework.

If you remember WG claimed the had to place the CV rework on the live server because there was not enough data from the testing by both, testers & from the public test runs. The CV rework was few years in the making. Some are expecting subs this summer, less than a year after work on subs was announced.

Another great post man... I prefer the one on CVs, but this one is not bad.
Maybe you think about it, it's not the CVs and SSs who suk?
No CVs, no SSs = TI and II or KOTS.

Remodel the 2018 Halloween test except with bunnies and marshmallow chickies hunting Easter eggs. Reward: Elite commander March Hare.
