Easy-to-understand math: Why a free Puerto Rico is mathematically possible (possible ≠ practical)

Since thread is long, this is sort of buried.

To get Puerto Rico free, you must finish grinding each directive within ~90 hours of release (± several hours depending on if you give yourself a buffer with the earlier directives).

Since directives drop at 2 AM PT/5 AM ET, finish grinding each directive by 8 PM PT/11 PM ET three days later.

Assuming that you are a 100% F2P player, your options for earning Shipbuilding Tokens (ST) "a resource needed to buy construction boosters for the Dockyard," are:

-1,950 Tokens from Directives
-640 Tokens from Daily Missions
-75 Tokens from Daily Shipments

Ship building starts December 16 @ 2 am PT and ends January 13 @ 2 am PT.

The following assumes all Directives are completed the minute they are released (which is unrealistic), all Daily Missions (DM) are completed starting from December 12, and all Daily Shipments (DS) are collected starting from December 11. Values in square brackets are the values at the end of the day (12:00 am PT). 'Directive X unlocked' refers to the first day below the respective sentence. 'Booster X purchased' refers to some time in the first day above the respective sentence.

Day 31: January 10: 20 ST (DM)   [225 ST]   [53,437,880 points]

After exactly 31 days of hard, back-breaking grinding ...

Spoiler

Puerto Rico obtained!

Day 32: January 11: 20 ST (DM)   [245 ST]   [55,622,360 points]

Day 33: January 12: 20 ST (DM)   [265 ST]   [57,806,840 points]

Day 34: January 13: 0 ST   [265 ST]   [57,988,880 points]

51,300,000 points are needed to obtain Puerto Rico.

Spoiler

All the boosters are highly dependent on the Shipbuilding Tokens from the Directive. (All of them need the Directive to drop except for Booster 4.)

A delay of 90 hours is 5,800 minutes. Booster 1 + ... + Booster 8 - Booster 7 = 1,213 ppm

5,800*1,213 = 6,550,200

As seen in the theoretical calculation above (insta-completion of all directives) you can miss up to 6,688,880 points. So, a delay of 90 hours works. This requires you to grind almost every single daily mission from December 12 to December 21 (10 days). Alternatively, similar calculations show that you have can have an 80 hour delay for getting each booster (vs. theoretical calculation above that assumes getting each booster as soon as theoretically possible).

No errors above, as far as I know. Please let me know if there are any.

While yes, I am disappointed by the level of difficulty of the directives (they release every 4 days with this patch, instead of the usual 7), free is technically possible.

What if I am not 100% F2P? Does the above apply to me?

Add up the below that apply to you.

I will purchase Doubloon Booster 1 before December 16 2 am PT.

Add 8,693,280 points.

I will purchase Doubloon Booster 2 before December 16 2 am PT.

Add 11,564,160 points.

I will purchase Doubloon Booster 3 before December 16 2 am PT.

Add 14,475,360 points.

Total: 34,732,800 points (16,567,200 points to go for Puerto Rico!)

Since you're factoring in having the directive bonuses applied instantly, if you subtract the total points needed from what was generated, then divided by about 750 pts/min average, that leaves an average of about 21 hours per directive, so each directive would have to be completed within about 24 hours of the directive being released, or the total points probably won't reach the finish line.  Yeah, I can see how they say it would be possible, but not for most people.  Kizarvexis might be working up a spreadsheet where you can plug in the exact time/day that you finish each directive to see what time frame one would have to complete each directive.

From the title, possible ≠ practical.

Personally, I would not do a F2P grind. It is/will be extremely difficult.

I haven't had the chance to recheck my own math, but it definitely looks bad for anyone trying to do it entirely for free.

That being said it may be much easier and maybe even tame if you just buy the 6k booster.

I am not going to kill myself to get a ship that will probably show up for coal or free experience a few months after the event.

MY eyes are hurting just looking at this, I think might have to get the Federal Finance Minster of Australia to work this out and help me get the dam ship.

But thanks for the info anyway :Smile_honoring:

Sadly this event is proof that WG has moved from giving a crap about the game to being only interested in getting as much money as they can (especially with the games poorly thought out balance that uses frustration with no counter play instead of limitation with counter play)..... if the doubloon boosters were not in total the same price as a tier 9 premium (which were never supposed to exist in WG titles) and instead only had the total cost of being a tier 7 premium than this event would have been worth it.... Instead you have to purchase a tier 9 premium worth of doubloons and then still have to grind 80% of the rest..... GG WG so fun and engaging.... what a joke lol.

It's still not possible because this does not count the time to do the directives, which is only mathematically possible by WGs design for Directive 1. The other directives *unlock* when this chart requires them to be used.

Without TOS violations - botting, match rigging, account sharing - it will take multiple RL days to do some of these even with assumptions of an expert player.

You have slightly over 80 hours to grind each directive to get PR for free.

Not easy, and not something I'm attempting.

Mayyyyybe. But you need to factor in the one known bogus assumption - it's almost certainly not possible, even for the biggest unicum player with full premium camo and economic bonuses, to complete each directive the day it drops. Even if you played eight hours a day at 15 minutes a match, and you won every match by hard carrying. The earlier directives, yeah, maybe if you grinded hard for 12+ hours, you could complete it, but later on? Nah.

Granted, it sort of gets easier because after a couple of directives have unlocked, you're doing simultaneous grinding, but by the time that's helpful, you're already behind.

It's an average of 80 hours to grind each directive. This is 3 days after the Directive unlock date at 5 am PT/8 am ET.

I will not pretend it's easy to grind for PR absolutely free. It's not.

I'm crunching the numbers so other players can make informed decisions such as, should I purchase a Doubloon booster? How many?

If you account for the game time required to fulfill each mission, I think you could show that NO it is NOT POSSIBLE, and therefore WG outright lied in their advertising.

Sadly this event is proof that WG has moved from giving a crap about the game to being only interested in getting as much money as they can...

Or is proof the crazies that write supposedly ‘daily’ mission requirements for Tanks have finally, fully migrated over to Warships.

It's impossible. Some of those directives cant be done in one day. You need to do 300k matches with tier10 exp+premium time and special flags in order to do the 900k exp alone
But then you see the 350k fxp directives...

WG, they really [edited] up this time

To get Puerto Rico free, you must finish grinding each directive within ~80 hours of release (± several hours depending on if you give yourself a buffer with the earlier directives).

Although you get more than a day, it's still a difficult grind.

Yea ik. But the problem is that in the last 2 directives, 80h isn't enough. Unless you don't sleep, eat or go to the bathroom (let alone work and socializing)
It might be faster if you go and buy the Gorizia in order to abuse the easier gorizia missions, but even then you could just buy boosters
