Had a thought on this and was wondering, if you get the smoke screen expert skill for the Perth and get 20% bigger smoke screen puffs from its creeping smoke generator, does it make it possible to travel faster than you normally could while the smoke screen is in effect?

Not really, no. The smoke disappears so quickly as to keep that from happening. Though, to be fair, you should already be changing speed within Perth's smoke. Anyone who has one, and can aim without a lock, can hit you pretty easily, all we have to do is lead off the leading edge of the cloud.

Actually, the bigger puffs make it easier to travel.  Although you can't travel faster than the 12 knots in any case, it is easier to not outrun your smoke.  Haven't driven her in a while, but SE does help - primarily because you are not at the leading edge of your smoke.

Also it gives you more starting and stopping distance, and if you want to sprint at 4/4 throttle and then 'reset' your smoke cloud further away, you have more safety margin.

I use the same captain for Perth and Haida. Smoke Expert is an awesome skill for both, because, not only does it give you more flexibility in movement, it makes you that much harder to hit from guess shots into smoke.
