Wrong side of the bed?

As usual, I started working my way from DDs to larger ships, starting with my Japanese pair (I have both Tier VI Tech Tree ships, and all of my DDs except Cossack are Tier VI).  First battle, come around the corner of the island coming straight from spawn to cap, there's a bot DD already in the center of the cap (I saw the cap turning while still behind the island coming from spawn) and immediately angled to fight back and juke speed and direction.  Blap, 60 percent health gone one salvo, shoot back, blap, dead.  Exit game, take out other ship, and it was "rinse and repeat".  First ship, the salvo hit me before my first torp load from spawn was even ready.  I did get a torp salvo off before dead both games, stayed long enough to see no hits.  Both games did about 200 damage before dying.

It's not like I was YOLO, and the second game, there were plenty of islands in the cap for cover, but I didn't even get to the first one.

I'm considering going back to bed and getting up on the other side or offering up something to RNGesus, I dunno.  Not my morning so far.  Moar coffee, perhaps?  Not going to any casinos today, that's for sure.  Maybe forum for a while and try again... Churchill is one of my heroes, so "never give up"....

I have found in PVE that hugging an island near the cap and then popping out detected is often a move that causes a quick loss of hp.  The little red bots always know where you are, detected or not, and they like nothing better than an ambush strike.  They have their turrets turned and torp tubes ready so they can push their virtual LMB as soon as you are detected.  It's how they roll.

Other than that, remember that what RNGesus takes away he gives back another day.  GLHF!

I've never had this happen?  Wow.  Avoid anything that involves chance today.  Maybe, this is a karma debt you owe from a past life???  Best to turn off your computer and find something safe to do the rest of the day.  I always read the Forums before I log in to see what new and exciting "Oh my GoD" I can expect when I log in.......  Well, I went and got some salt, a few candles, a bottle of medicinal Rum and I'm fully prepared to "protect my computer from the PVE RNG Spirits"....

Thanks for the warning !

Good Morning!

Yeah, been there, done that, got the scars to prove it!  The bots have some very good RPF.

The worst I ever saw was me coming around a corner and seeing no fewer than 6 bots waiting for me.  Blap.  I think I got a couple shots off.

Have fun in future games!

You must realize that bot DDs see you AT ALL TIMES. And you are a priority target with bot DDs. You can test this by watching bot DDs before you fire, and then firing your guns. Whatever they are doing, they will immediately turn towards you and start shooting at you with amazing accuracy. That's the way they are programmed by WG. Also, what you did sounds like a PvP style of attack. Don't ever do that in PvE. It rarely works. Best bet is emulate (copy) what the bots do. They are set at full speed ahead before the battle even starts. Figure on engaging bot DDs BEFORE you battle anything else. Because that is generally what will happen. When you spot a bot DD, usually at 6k distance, immediately pop smoke, hold down the "S" key, and make a sharp turn away from the side you have all your guns pointed towards. Once you are stopped and broadside to the bot, let him have it with guns. Most times you can eliminate the bot with guns. If he isn't dead and still coming at you, let him have some torps. BOOM! Dead. Wait for your smoke to dissipate and take shots at ships in range, then head out at full speed to the closest target...usually it is a cruiser or BB. Then use your torps on them. This will almost always guarantee you at least 2 kills, sometimes 3, if you are in a ship like the Kamikaze. Number of kills will depend on how many CLs are following you and vulching off your efforts. :Smile_sceptic:

The bots all have RPF (even the planes) so know where you are. They all use the same target selection algorithm so they can have the guns trained and  all instantly target you when spotted (ever notice how fast your PT counter shoots up when you get spotted?) Fortunately they are not allowed to act (pull the trigger) on this info until you are actually spotted. They don't fire speculative torps BEFORE you come around the island or try to hit you when you are hiding in smoke. So it does balance out a bit.

Something to add.  I recall reading this here months ago.  It's just now gotten through my thick skull.  If their guns are trained on you and you are not firing they won't fire.  I have been using this to good effect the last several days.  Especially playing around in my cruisers.

Wait for those guns to look elsewhere before sending those care packages down range.

Of course I chalk some of those "days" "matches" up not so much to wrong side of the bed but.. just being plain nuts to log in.

Showing my age but that puts me in mind if those old commercials from the '70s for Almond Joy candy bars.
