Great question.  It's my hope that they'll have event weekends similar to WoT featuring certain classes, such as the Battle of Midway, Battle of the River Plate, etc.  That said, dealing with ships is very different than dealing with aircraft or tanks in that, for the most part, they were individually identifiable.  This may provide alternative opportunities to "feature" a particular ship rather than a class.

The answer to the OP I believe is: sort of.

WoWs features different classes of warships, rather than certain specificly named warships. However ships which were the only one of their class (e.g. Vanguard, Shinano) would fit what you are asking.

also, Wargamming says that you will likely be able to name your ship from a list of historical names, similar to the decals in WoT, so you could make your own historical ship, but it would be identical to nearly everyone elses

I imagine that ships which were one of a kind for their class will be prime candidates to be premium ships.

I think it may depend on the nation. Many of the WW2 nations were not primarily sea powers. The RN, USN, and IJN were probably the most developed navies, and finding actual or planned ships to fill the tiers for these nations will be relatively easy compared to filling a tech tree for the Dutch or the Polish navies. (Even in an EU tree it may prove difficult if Spain, France, and Italy are eventually to have their own trees.)

In trees where there are plenty of ships to go around, ships which were one-of-a-kind could easily be left off the tree and sold as premium.

The ship naming system is not similar to the decal system, as it was stated that you choose your ship's name upon purchasing it.

Even BOJ would be a great weekend event, I would fathom.
