I finally got my first 19-point captain last night. The majority of the XP came from playing scenarios with special flags mounted. I was lucky enough to get 100 Dragon flags in a SC back when the container system was launched, and I rarely used them for anything other than retraining a captain, but when scenarios were introduced, I started using them there.

I've moved this captain between ships quite a bit. He started as a DD captain, and I took him from 10 to 14 points playing Operation Dynamo in the Farragut. I moved him into Dallas & used signals whenever Aegis was in rotation (easiest op, so loading signals isn't a potential waste). He was up to 16 points a little over a month ago, when I moved him into Helena and tried Operation Narai (moved him back to Dallas when that was over). I ran out of dragon flags at that point, but the anniversary chests gave me another decent stash, and I used them in Narai the last two days. I finally hit 19 points last night. Having Boise & Atlanta really helped, so I could double down on first wins. I think I hit 55K commander XP once with a first win bonus, but most have been 40-45K.

I'm a very casual player & only play a few matches here & there, so time wise, this took a long time, but really, it wasn't many matches. I'm looking forward to earning lots of elite commander XP with him & getting a few more captains up to speed.

Congrats!

The first one is the most difficult one. Takes forever.

I got my first a few month ago and now I am close to #4 !

Scenarios with enough Flags to make Nagato look like a Sailboat helps :-)

Congrats!  Took me a while as well to get the first.  I applaud the Dragon flags, they were very useful to me as well.

Have fun!

Congratulations, and just as you may have heard, once you have one 19 point captain the easier following ones will be. For example:

My Missouri 19 point captain also serves on any premium USN BB or CA in my port.

Yamato 19 point captain serves on Yamato and Musashi, plus a tier IV IJN BB.

Queen Elizabeth 19 point captain serves on all my premium Royal Navy BBs.

Gneisenau 19 point captain also serves on Scharnhorst and P.E. Friedrich.

Harekaze was also serving on Kagero, but recently switched from Kagero to Yugumo.

following 3 c19 point captains are far more specialized for their ships, so their abilities to effectively transfer to other ships are either nonexistent or unavailable to me. But they do their jobs well and I really like the ships they are on, so they still contribute a lot of Elite Captain XP.

HSF Graf Spee

Bismarck

Gearing

So with all the ships in my port able to make use of 19 point captains, you could imagine how during times that I need a lot of Elite Captain XP generated, I can just rotate through all the ships. Main thing I use the ECXP for is creating new 10-12 point captains since that is the minimum skill points requirement to allow most ships to become effective. And from thereit becomes easier to take them up to 19 points. I have several additional high point captains that given more time will likely reach 19 point captains because of doing this.

Congrats!  I have one also, but am sitting on almost 2 million free captain experience trying to decide who to dump those into to create #2 (and maybe #3).  The first one helps to attain more, as well as the events such as at Halloween.  Good luck!

Congratulations!    I just picked up my 5th 19pointer for this year very lazily playing the game as I do nowadays so the rest will come soon. Good Luck!

I'm about 120k captain XP away from my first 19 pt.

(My tendency to keep ships I like and leave their captains means I have a ton of good capts but none maxed out yet.)

I'm also sitting on 350k elite commander XP, and I'm wondering if it wouldn't actually be better to finish that captain's 19th point, get him elited.

Well done!

Keep on spamming him; it won't be long till you have your second, then your third, then...

My first and second, UK and US respectively, were set up to be as generalist as possible (even to having Last Stand so they can serve well in premium destroyers). Third and subsequent are starting to specialise to ship type.

Congrat's OP. Well done.

Getting that 1st 19pt Capt is the hardest it will ever be. Moving forward it gets easier and they come faster thanks to the Elite Capt XP they build. It's even better if you have premium ships you can move your Capt's around on.

I got my 1st 19pt Capt (Montana) in February of 2018 which was 1 year and 2+ months of playing. In the 1 year and 8+ months since that 1st one I have amassed quite a few of them even though I play Co-op exclusively for the most part.

Just now I finished the grind on my Henri IV Capt and was able to raise him to 19pts making him the 28th 19pt Captain I have. :Smile_izmena:

So again congrat's and it only gets better from here on... :Smile_honoring:

I have a question.
I saw a post somewhere, where someone said they had something like a million elite Commander XP, but they didn't even have a 19 pointer yet.

How would a person accumulate that kind of Elite XP without even having a 19 pointer yet.

I want to add, I'm not accusing them of lying, I'm just wondering how to achieve that if possible.

  Oh yeah...

for my first, I decided to take my 14-ish pt Colorado captain all the way.  I liked playing the ship, so why not?  (pre-accuracy nerf/health buff)   I had Texas, Zona, Alabama, and Missou, so I used him to collect the first win bonus on each of those (and played a few extra on whichever one was working well that day)  Then dropped him into CO for several games.   I equipped any and every bonus I could- inc flags and Ocean Soul camos.  (thank goodness I went nuts on Santa crates that year, and was sitting on a pile of them!!)   It sped things up, but it still took a LOT of games to grind out.

This was before Dragon flags, and before OPS- so it was done purely in Co-op.

After that, I did the same thing- collect first wins, then play a couple of games in 'Rado each day, till I felt like playing something else.   Accumulated a pile of E-XP that way!   Used that to finish out captains that were about to get a point for a next skill, or to boost low level ones up a few points.   Once I had each player with at least 10 points or the bare minimum to make it work, I started saving up for the next 19 pointer.    Ended up getting the next one on Buffalo.

Now I have 4, and several others in the 17 point range.

1. for US BB's  (I have all the premiums save Ohio)

2. for US CA's  (Buffalo and Des Moines)  One is more gun oriented- for use on Buffalo;  Salem, Wichita,  and Alaska; the other is AA focused and with DE. For Des Moines, or any time I need to burn stuff or make it rain planes.    I'll toss this latter one in Boise occasionally, too.

1. French BB's.  Ground it out in Alsace, then moved it to Repub.   It gets shared with Gascogne.

Colorado's new captain is at 17 points again, lol.  (the 19 pointer got moved and respecced for North Carolina)

Also, unless that 19 pointer is in a tier 10 ship, put him in a ship you're grinding.   That way you naturally accumulate E-XP - with a ship you're trying to earn like hell on anyway, lol.

Elite captain xp can be earned in daily missions, and they will ( sometimes ) be available in various directives and campaigns. I've earned elite xp from a variety of different sources.

Guess that's what I'll do tonight then.

It's the Gneisenau captain, who also gets a lot of time in the German premium BBs.

Did this with the Dunkirk loaner 19pt capt, used him to get my first and a big head start on the second. Got one on every line line of the major nations now. I put him as a specialist in the top tier ship and move him up when I get the next tier, in the meantime he [edited] himself around all the Premium ships of that line accumulating Elite Capt XP.

my Gneisenau captain goes through Scharnhorst, Graf Spee, pef, and earlier today he made an appearance in my Konig Albert. Same for my other 19pt captains, I try to have groups of ships they can rotate through, preferably t7

helena/atlanta/boise is also a good combo if you do a lot of Narai runs

You can earn it from playing events like the Halloween scenarios, Rogue Wave event, etc. Those event ships come with 19-point commanders, so everything you earn turns into elite commander xp.

I didn't find out about that until someone mentioned it during the Rogue Wave event, and I was kicking myself for not playing them. I'm definitely going to be playing the Halloween ships next month.

I don't really grind.  I just do dailies on a lot of ships, and make sure to put a couple extra signals and a camo on when I do the dailies on ships that are still getting research done.

Anyway, now that I have a 19 captain, I also need to add a couple skills.  Right now he has PT, PM, EM, BoS, BFT, and AFT -- so that's 5 points left to spend.  I've been vacillating on what to do with the rest of his points.

Personally, I'd go for fire prevention.   Stealth is besides the point on a brawler like Gneis.   ( I always have to laugh when the spotted! icon pops up when in a BB, lol.  I'm in a freaking battleship!  Of COURSE I'm spotted, lol.)   And then that skill that warns you of long range fire.  Just to give you a heads up that a spawn camper is trying to use you as a punching bag.    These days, with all the he spammers, you WILL be on fire a lot.  And every little bit helps.

  OR

Adrenaline rush  (you'll be eating damage anyway- why not take advantage of it?)  and perhaps either demo expert to boost your secondary damage output- or Vigilance- to annoy the torpedo chuckers.

Congratulations and many more 19 Pointers.  The player base overall is probably stuffed with 15's & 16's and they do the job but once you land a big One Niner that bank account on the left side of the Captain Skills screen just keeps adding up like fire damage on a Tirpitz.

My Gneis captain is PT JoAT (I think), BFT, AFT, with three points in hand and six left to get. My intention for the full 19 point build is to add Manual Secondaries, Fire Prevention and either Preventive Maintenance or Incoming Fire Alert. Probably PM at this point, because I have no experience with IFA and am not sure whether it would benefit me.

Because he's set up as a secondary hits farmer, he will probably take MFCS first, then Fire Prevention and then the one-point skill. Co-op games are short enough that I either have enough heals, DCP, etc to tank my way through or I die outright, so I can afford to put off FP for later. Once I have Bismarck, he'll move up into that to the same end.

By contrast, my Bayern has a captain who's set up for pure survivability first and foremost, and he might or might not get whatever elements of a secondary build I can add on in the space of 9 points. However, he will probably go BFT, AFT and AR, because MFCS's usefulness at Tier 6 is limited and I'm probably better off just letting them fire automatically on both sides. (Control-click still focuses them a little, but not to the exclusion of other targets.)
