I wish I knew the exact date that subs are going to be shoved up the anus of Co-op mode, so I could start a countdown.

E:  oh look, my emote stalker is back -- what he doesn't know is that all votes are upvotes now

What, can't wait to wander all over the map chasing the last sub...in a BB?:Smile_teethhappy:

Subs and ASW need a lot more work...like a lot. I can't see them being put out very soon, but then again, WG has a habit of pushing out updates before they are ready.

I want to rant and rave but I haven't the energy.. why bother? WG knows this is a bad idea but the bean counters want this and they have shown lately that despite many protestations they really don't give a toss what we think.CV's in ranked?? Bot CV's added to your side in coop??

I'm hanging on by my fingertips at the moment. I'm looking forward to the Italian cruisers but after I've finished those  think it may be time to move on. I've enjoyed my time here.. met some top blokes.. but the fun factor is rapidly dropping. A crying shame as this game can be fantastic fun at times.

Homing torpedoes. 35K damage and cits for two hits. What kind of mind thought of this?

The stupid never ends, does it?

Let's hope this stays in operations, because at present subs look exactly like CVs -- the only fun you can have "interacting" with them is destroying them.

I love this game and all my friends here, but if this garbage slimes onto the live server in Random matches.....

I saw salt simply explode out of those ships when those torps hit.... :Smile_veryhappy:

It's a shame the deck guns, at least at this stage, aren't operational.

I saw his the tail end of his twitch stream, and I'm wishing those bots were in Co-Op from T6 and up.  At the very least, I'd love to see the CV Bots at all tier's work like that, except that they moved around.

Regardless, they definitely need to work on certain things.  One example is when you are ping'd.  You have to literally be watching the mini map CONSTANTLY in order to see if you've been ping'd, and as he correctly pointed out, most folks won't see it.  Even with him having the mini map the size of a quarter of the screen practically, it wasn't overly easy to see him ping'd.  If he ran his map transparent, you'd definitely have trouble seeing you've been ping'd from what I saw.  Quick, white circles indicating ping, that were a little transparent-ish.

I think when you are ping'd, it should show up on your screen somehow, like with an icon similar to what we see when you are detected.  With a skill like RPF (used purely for example), it will tell you which way it came from.

ASW definitely needs work as well.  I was there when Flamu ran into Flambass on the other team using a sub.  He literally charged right up and parked, then proceeded to take a dump on him, which very quickly ended Flambass's run.  In a match prior, I saw the depth charges being dropped by a DD on Flamu, and he was wrecked very quickly by charges that were a solid distance away as he pointed out.  That DD was 1.2-1.5k away, and the charges that were landing further away were doing a lot of damage.  There was absolutely nothing he could do.  Maybe a limited consumable called "Deep Dive".  It let's the sub dive very deep, out of range of the depth charges, but slows you way down, drains your O2 like crazy, and keeps you from spotting anything what-so-ever, even if they are literally on top of you.  They wouldn't be able to see you either.

EDIT:  I mis-remembered the distance the DD was to him when he got crapped on.  But the AoE is still hella large.

The damage from a double ping'd torpedo spread is pretty gnarly on a BB.  I saw Flamu pretty much get one shotted a couple of times in his Fuso, which was kind of funny.  As a BB main, I'm fine with this.  He was practically sitting still the first time, and was pretty much being very predictable (and SLOW) the 2nd time.  But in his defense, the ping notification on the Mini map is garbo as is.  The down side is that, well, we already see BB's being timid as spork, but after this drops???  You'll see them moving around alright.....trying to retreat off the map...:Smile_hiding:

Either way, I'm actually a little excited about this.  And I do look forward to how bots will handle them and how they'll work in Operations, that's for sure.:Smile_Default:  A DD/CA centered Operation where you must escort a convoy from one side to the other, and counter submarines, PT Boats and aircraft from a carrier or two.:Smile_playing:

I said it before and this video confirms it (BTW good job Flamu - well explained and shown).

Subs Do Not Belong in this Game

Yeah, amazingly, there will be people out there claiming that this will end spawn camping. LOL.

In a way it will.  They'll no longer be camping behind an island now, but the map border instead. :Smile-_tongue:

If I'm playing a BB...ok bye even less inclined to push. And I am the aggressive kind of BB player.

I can just imagine the matches with 5 dds, 3,4,5 subs and one or 2 cvs and then us cruiser and BB players. So much fun!

That's always been one of the more laughable claims of the sub-porters.

This will certainly make me want to push in a battleship. I have 147 days of premium left, I wonder how that will coincide with the release of submarines.

Me too. I love pushing in BBs and hunting DDs. But the whole concept of homing torps that cant be avoided.... we already have the absurd DWTs. So if I wind up in a game with an Asashio and a couple of subs, I can easily see myself parking my BB and exiting. Why would I ever want to play BB in that kind of crappy environment? Regrettably, the only form of protest we have against this string of skid marks of bad decisions is non-participation.

Nor will I be purchasing BB premiums. Why pay to be fodder for this trash?

Praying that the devs will be sensible and keep these in operations. But the comments from the mod and Sub_O in the other thread made it clear that there are no circumstances under which subs will be regarded as inappropriate for Randoms. So sooner or later this will come.

Going to have to start asking my alpha and beta tester youtube star son what other games there are to switch to.

That's part of the problem -- they've already made their minds up that it's when, not if.

Even if the feedback is 75% negative, they'll latch on to the 25% and cram the subs in.

The question I notice that nobody's asked? "Is the ASW going to activate whenever an enemy sub gets close to a DD, even when the sub hasn't been spotted or pinged or done anything to activated the here-I-am circle?" Because if it's just going to go off whenever a sub gets within a certain radius of a DD, even while at max depth, without being pinged, that's going to be a whole heap of horse manure. Back to the bad old days of the early CV rework, where AA was a mobile roach motel.

*Note that while I don't like the rework, I don't believe in punishing players for trying to play with the established classes withing the established rules of the game.

I think most people are only looking at the ping on the mini map from the standpoint of a ship that doesn't want to get torp'ed, and not from the sub that only has four torps with fairly long reloads.  I'm not sure an icon on your screen would work well.  It would be a dodge now notice.  I think the mini map ping is more about counter play in detecting the sub, than its meant to be a warning to start dodging torps.   If it turns out the homing torps need balancing there are so many other options available, like their speed, homing ability, or detection range that can be adjusted.

Another possible way to balance the homing torps is have their detection range change with pings.  After you land one ping and torps become homing the detection would increase, say from 1km to 1.3km, and after the second ping where to torps become magnetic detonation torps, the detection goes to 1.4km (I'm just making these numbers up).  That way the more dangerous the torps become the longer the detection range gets, and the more time you have to dodge.

It would be more relevant to ask why there are homing torps at all. Completely unnecessary. Even if you assume a large population of sub enthusiasts (and I don't doubt there are, "people like blood sausage") I can't recall even a single post asking for them. Rather like rockets on planes.
