What is it with American navy ships running in to poor, innocent civilian vessels?

Just another example of vandalism by those craven canal and dike builders!

But look at it this way, it could be considered the first naval victory in Dutch history, putting them one win ahead of the Russians.

I had no idea the USS Slater even existed. I am definitely going to have to visit the next time I am back east. Destroyer escorts are ridiculously rare.

She's a really nice looking ship, too:

"Cruise ship" ??  More like two-story row boat.

The Coast Guard inspected the Dutch Apple on Wednesday. They found an error in the transmission throttle, which caused the engine to come out of gear while trying to dock. This, combined with strong winds, caused the boat to drift into the Slater.

The Dutch Apple is still in working condition. The Slater needs a bar replaced and a paint touch up.

It gets crazy once you're out on the water!

Last year, the museum ship USS Midway wrecks a boat!

I hope the people running the Midway museum chalked up a boat kill somewhere on the ship.

Now now now.  That's not quite true.

Back in the day (WAY back in the day) the Dutch made a habit of kicking the crap out of the Royal Navy.  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anglo-Dutch_Wars

Including giving the Royal Navy a kicking of biblical proportions, the repercussions of which are still felt to this day.

If it were illegal salvers I just might go all Sergeant Shultz to that happening...

Recently watched a YouTube vid about the Greenville incident with the Ehime Maru off Hawaii, talk about bad timing; I wonder how man people even know about that; considering what happened six months later.
