Well could you provide a little more information, because I am sure everyone is not up to date on this issue. I for one grow tired of these childlike disputes over territory like that. The things people will do for oil- wait I mean the things people will do money.

I am guessing this is a China-Japanese conflict and China wont do jack because we have bases in Japan.

I don't believe a full fledged naval battle will happen. There are enough high tech weapons to decrease the chance of that happening. There could be a couple of very brief skirmishes, but I would not believe that it is very likely for that to happen.

The only naval battle I see coming from these disputed islands would be from coastal patrol vessels. The biggest vessel being a cutter type, like the Hamilton Class ships. Air support would more likely be limited to maritime patrol aircraft and naval helicopters. Much like China and Taiwan have had over the decades.

Taiwan, Japan and China knows what is at stake if a war there turns hot, and because of that it wont. To be honest though all 3 parties can get allot more oil elsewhere, those islands are not worth going to war over. They are just going to spend the next while arguing over them.

Islands are not important for economical resources, it is important because if China back off at the Senkakus then she will get diplomatic problems with the souther China sea and there there are a lot of resources and bigger problems than with the senkakus.

Nothing will happen. There's too much to lose for everybody involved, and nobody wants to start WW3.

The Japanese Aegis ships along with their F-15's will turn China's turd bucket fleet into artificial reefs around the islands attracting much sea life and making a great marine park for all the world to enjoy. The brochures will be stamped "All reefs made in China"

(Uh, you did ask for my opinion)

The F-15J can carry Harpoon missiles though...

I am concerned. If anything happens, it's still a war, even if local one like Falklands. And then, you don't know what more can happen.

No Harpoons are in the JASDF inventories, and the only user of the missile in the SDF is the Navy (JMSDF). The F-15J is primarily for air superiority, with ground strike capabilities limited to general purpose bombs and cluster bombs. No anti-ship capabilities. The F-2 on the other has the anti-ship capabilities that Japan would need for such a showdown, though not the Harpoon. The F-2 uses the domestic developed and built ASM-1 and ASM-2 missiles.

I stated it can carry them, not it does. You said they lack the capabilities, but they are able to carry them.

The F-15J doesn't carry the Harpoon missiles because they aren't set up for such a weapon. Why would the F-15J carry such a weapon system if it hasn't been moodified to carry it let alone fire the thing?

The location of the island make them much easier for the Chinese Air Force to cover. You then seem to be jumping to the conclusion that the F-15J can take down the J-10 and J-11 that China will throw up against it with ease.

Not to mention that China can easily use its H-6 bomber to saturate the approaching Japanese ships with ASM's. While still being well within China's air defense umbrella. Plus it has just been announced that China is  buying up to 40 Tu-22M-3 Backfire bombers for its Naval Bomber force from Russia. An outdated design, but still good at doing what it was made for. The Backfire now give China a much longer reach into areas it considers theirs.

China has a massive submarine force...that is deployed correctly could easily make things difficult for the Japanese fleet.

The Chinese surface fleet is now far more capable then you may think...with excellent Surface to air missile capability.

Not to mention that the Chinese long range missiles will be able to hit the Naha air base where a large number of Air, Maritime, Coast Guard, and Ground SDF assets are located. The loss of that base would significantly hamper Japan's air defense strategy. Air defense response would take far longer as aircraft would have to be launched from the much further away air bases at Tsuiki and Nyutabaru.
