Gr8 crates worth it?

I've never heard of Alexander Ovechkin outside of this game and I'm not a big hockey fan. That said, the possible ship missions you got from the crate rewards seemed decent enough.  All three premium ships being offered cost more than the $30 being charged for 7 crates. Just ship would make the cost worth it. Alas, the payout fell short of my hopes:  No missions. But there were enough camos and flag to be a decent consolation prize. And it did open up another collection set for me, which I enjoy.

If you think you can get the ships, go for it. If you don't want camo, flags, or collection, I wouldn't recommend it.

Whenever I buy bundles, which I haven't done in a while now, I always buy the biggest one as that for some "magical reason" has always dropped all the things I really wanted. I liked this bundle when it was first released, really paid off for me, got a lot more value in it than what I actually paid for. But as with everything, it's all down to the beholder and their wallets.

I just bought 1 crate. I'm not gonna gamble for the Soviet version (which I really wanted), and I'm not paying 50 bucks for it.

I'll just get the US Ovenchicken and call it a day

This is how I felt when I bought a handful of crates about a year ago trying to get some US DD/CL unlocks. No missions, but nice flags that seriously came in handy later. I can understand why some crate-whales come to these purely for the flags and camos, even if that's not how I roll.

I clicked expecting you to be asking for advice prior to purchase, but then I noticed you'd already spent the money. And funny enough, my advice was going to be, "If you completely missed out on this collection last year, ONE crate is worth it to start the ball rolling."

I would amend this to say "If you don't think the camo and flags alone are worth the money you will spend..." Too many people think they're entitled to a ship or two with a big enough spend, but that's not how probability works - and even if the odds were published, there'd still be people who thought that 1:100 odds meant a guaranteed ship from 100 crates and foolishly buy them, even though they'd already spent way more money than it costs to buy all the ships.

I want you to imagine the saltiest thing that could happen if WG were forced to tell us, for example, that there is a 1:1000 chance of winning a Belfast from a $5 Santa crate. :Smile_trollface:

I got the Hockey Commander, CV Skin, the normal 10pt captain, and some other stuff.  I thought it was worth it.  Drop 100.00 and see what you get.  I also think I might have gotten lucky.  I love the Lexington Camo, plus the hockey commander version is pretty cool to look at, so imho it was worth it.

"You haven't won the lottery because you haven't bought enough tickets yet."
I'm sorry but I don't think one should have to spend $100USD just to get something nice.

It is a matter of perception and financial realities. 100 to me is not much, 100 to others is a ton.  Everyone holds their own value on $$ spent.  No one is wrong here, it just is what it is.   Wargaming is free to price as they like.  If people stop buying because it is too expensive, they will start selling things cheaper.  So while I appreciate some people scoff at the pricing, others do not, and Wargaming based their pricing based on those facts.

What are the collection completion rewards? This collection isn't listed on the Wiki.

I bought a single crate to unlock the collection for me as I was on a break from the game when it came out originally. The rest of the collection items you get from playing.

You get a 10 point commander with some special talents. The event at the time offered an American and a Russian version, one in in-game missions and the other in the final collection crate, but it's been so long that I can't remember which one was in the final collection crate. IIRC the boosted talents are Expert Marksman and Survivability Expert, which appear set up to heavily favour a mid-tier Russian DD commander. If nobody else posts in the meantime, I think I can work it out next time I am in-game.

Astonishment capsules are designed to sell you things you would not normally buy.  The odds seem to get worse each year.

Does getting the first item in a closed collection by buying a crate unlock that collection in daily crates? I used coal to buy a lot of the armory crates for discontinued collections that were available but discontinued before I started playing, but I was impatient and didn't wait long to see if they would start dropping in daily crates before buying just enough coal crates to fill the collection by trading duplicates.

It depends on the collection. This one dropped in daily containers until you finished it. As far as I can recall, the ones you can finish in the Armory did not.

Collections that finish on their own have a "collect/stop collecting" option somewhere in the upper right corner of the collection screen. They are all set to "stop collecting" and the button greys out when you have all the pieces.

@RainbowFartingUnicorn, I looked in game. The one in the collection is the American one, specialised for the Erie.

Eh. They're not worth it if you got the Gr8 crate for free and started the collection that way. US Ovechkin is great on US DDs but has poor voiceovers.
