Have any of you actually looked at WWII subs or post war till about 1950?

In  general ....

Look at the general specs of all nations subs.

Highest speed attained is 21 knots on the surface.

torpedo distance of 4 kilometers/9000 yards max.

Underwater max speed for subs is 8 knots. - IJN did have one that went about 21 knots max.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_specifications_of_submarines_of_World_War_II

They won't be implemented unless there is fudging of the specs at a massive level.

So what else can you do with them ? - Maybe have them play against each other since even a basic Orlan can run them down and spank em.  So if we get subs it won't be in randoms because they can't work. they could have 200% stealth and would still be run down by the crappiest of ships.

All you girlie men are getting you panties all wet and twisted for no reason at this time.:cap_popcorn:

You seem to forget that this is WG and historical accuracy is not a concern of theirs. Subs here can do whatever WG decides they want them to.

Anyone looking for historical accuracy in an arcade style warship game is delusional anyway.

If WG speeds them up past the slowest ship in the game while underwater I think there would not be enough salt in this world to cover player response.

Carrier rework that created the player response fiasco will be like a good day for them if subs are speedy.

Doubt even NTC renamed will have as mach salt as speedy subs.

Yes it is arcade but to make subs playable in the game will take insane departures from reality far beyond what we have seen in the game up to now.

There is zero chance that WG went to the work of creating and developing whatever they have for subs, to relegate them to some special only mode, permanently.  They spent a whole lot of time reworking CVs to put them into every game mode.  Their intention is to put subs in every mode as well.

The dev post says that they will be on their own special mode "initially".  That word tells us what the plan is.

I'm gonna play the poodoo out of subs when they land. Then when they lock em down, well after that, what's left? Nukes? Rockets?

No wait... I know... PT boats!

It's not happening.

It'll just be a silly Halloween event where you pWn bots. PVE. Temporary.

The CV rework will seem like "bunnies and rainbows" compared to the backlash that will ensue if a sub ever sees competitive play in randoms.

There were MANY threads when the CV rework was announced that proclaimed the same exact thing.  "It's not going to happen"  "There is no way" etc etc. In fact if you go back and look at them, you will see me in them saying the same things, that they would absolutely be in every game mode, that is the whole plan and point.

CVs entered random game mode 6 months ago back in January and have been added to every game mode since then.

Subs will initially be in their own little world, probably for a good while for balancing, but they will be moved to every game mode.

subs will eventually enter CB and ranked, the CV did eventually, so no need to exclude a class just because some may not like it.

As far as speed goes,  WG will make them playable regardless or what is real or not.

I agree with everyone else. If subs come to the game it will be devastating to the playerbase.

What can a sub do a DD can't?? Stealth fire torps? Nope. Spot the enemy? The only difference would be them submerging to ambush rather then sitting in smoke.

Its like watching an army slowly fall back.  "There will never be subs in WoWs!"  "Oh um...they will never be playable outside of the Halloween event!"  "...uh...they will never be in randoms or co-op!"

At this point,  I think the only limitations on subs will ultimately be no ranked or competitive modes and even THAT may be up for debate.

They will for sure be in ranked and CB.  One has to keep in mind that WG isn't doing this for fun, they are doing it to make money.  There was and will be a LOT of development associated with this change and they expect to make their money back, plus a bunch of profit.

This means that there will be premium subs in short order.

Not being able to use those premium subs in whatever game mode will hurt sales.  Reducing their own profit, isn't something that WG wants to do.  Can't say I blame them for that.

Proof of what you say is the fact they announced long ago there would never be subs in the game and now here they come.

For now

*ominous music*

But seriously the devs already said they are willing to increase sub speed.

*Fast forward 3 years into the future where subs get power-creeped so hard that some of them do 50 knots like the French DDs.

Even within 1950, there's a number of subs that perform better than this. The German XXI and Walther HTP boats(both of which featured in the Coop mode). USN GUPPY conversions, which were capable of between 16-18 knots submerged. Past 1950 most nations at minimum approached if not significantly exceeded 20 knots submerged, typically but not always by adopting some non-conventional drive(HTP, closed-cycle, nuclear).

I was just thinking about how the "national flavors" will affect subs. Imagine the Russians with a 50mm hull and radar.

But for how long, being diesel electric  their realistic except for short burst speeds were in the low single digits. If they only give them their historical submerged maximum without being more than 10% or 20% higher they will be too slow to do anything. Given enough speed to be playable they are not subs of that era any more.

Uh, typically half an hour to an hour. With time compression, a few minutes of submerged sprinting(likely more than needed as subs will be at surface to spot). The real issue was operational, the batteries were kind of dangerous.
