I'm plugging in a little bit here as I get to it. Observations, Taranto is a little light on armament. Giussano on paper looks a little strong at tier IV with 950 mps SAP on paper only. I've only looked at I - IV plus X. However a lot of ships need to be added and maybe some different loadouts for some ships taken out.

Which stats are you trying to apply? Guissano has a 15s reload in the dev blog, not 7.5s. T5 you have D'Aosta not Montecuccoli. Zara has a 15s reload.

Are you trying to show them at the tiers Demon predicted?

@mofton  Some more for you to laugh at. Tried to clean up tier VIII a bit and add some other stats. Comments, suggestions and light mocking are always encouraged. :Smile_hiding:

@Phoenix_jz You normally do the chart things if you have any suggestions to add. I'm trying to keep this from going toooo far to the right. I think I might remove demon's broadside bit and add torpedoes.

I'm gonna be totally honest - I suck when it comes to using the forum's own chart system, which is why I usually just default to making the chart in excel, screen-shotting it, and posting the image to the forums. Now that I've got a better computer & screen these might start to look better too.

Anywho, on the subject, I threw together a rather crappy-looking chart comparing the alpha strike vs dpm of tier X cruisers that might be of interest;

As far as suggestions - if it's possible to alter the colors of the boxes in discord, that might make things easier to read - I usually use colors to make it easier to tell at a glance which boxes are giving data and which are giving names/labels - and ship name boxes colored base on nation, to make it easier to find stuff at a glance.

Otherwise - outside of stuff outside of Mogami, where the alternate armament is viable, I wouldn't bother with the A hulls that much when comparing the ships, just to save space and reduce the amount of information. It might also help, for the sake of compactness, to fit the 'nation' markers in the same column as the tier indicator, since otherwise that far left column gets no use.

I'm just using google spreadsheet since that is what demon started in. So colors can be altered easily. Then copy and paste. The other problem is I'm also on a wide screen so everything fits for me and I'm used to staring at numbers so the wall of text doesn't hit me hard. :cap_yes:

 

I guess I just rather throw stuff out and let people pick out what they find important but I will try to focus a bit. Ok the forum strips out a bit of formating that is annoying will take a picture.

Practical damage the Italian ships might be good. However if a match becomes a DPM race they lose fast.

Note: GM3D datamined the Italians, SAP shell damage was reduced at some point to 5000, AP to 4800. Yay. At least the drag values are known now(and good, 0.234 SAP, 110kg shell, 0.237 AP, 125.3kg shell).

I had noticed that and hoped the AP was a bit wrong. Although I do have to admit the potential alpha of the SAP seemed too good. I wasn't sure if saturation or other mechanics would reduce the potential. SAP are HE shells in AP window dressing. It is kind of worth a laugh given on the 381/50 the SAP is a HE shell in disguise. 

I see the rifles at tier VIII are listed as 203/55. However this seems to only justify the switch in SAP/HE velocity. The derated 203/53 values are still used with 20s era shell nomenclature. I admit the next iteration of the 203mm rifle would  probably have gone with a more modest velocity, see Abruzzi.

However I think the initial concept was to go with a heavier rifle re-lined to limit thermal warping. I believe in the Littorio book Bagnasco talks about difficulties with accuracy in extended firing never being fully resolved and the Regia Marina had gone down the wrong path. Going off memory! Phoenix can surely correct me. However over engineering was their MO. Looking at you 120/50 twin mount. :Smile_veryhappy:

SAP is much more limited than it first appears because SAP has to be used against belts, decks will ricochet it regularly even with 60-85 angles. Basically it's the fault of the extremely good ballistics that the 203mm/55 has. It has only around 10-15 degrees(didn't figure out exactly how much, but less than Zao more than Moskva) angle of fall at 15km. That means the shell has an incidence of 75-80 degrees, and will usually ricochet. Obviously superstructure will still take damage in that case, but superstructure saturates super quick. Same story will hold for ships angling at something like 70 degrees, they will ricochet ~50 percent of shells(slightly higher incidence due to AoF).

The m/v goes from 900->950 for SAP and 900->910 for AP. More important though, drag goes from 0.254->0.234. The /55 uses a "mod 2" shell, whatever that is supposed to mean.

Imoo AP damage loses out in the effort to balance SAP as the desired solution. Also creating an awkward dynamic with destroyers in the current format. So I imagine changes are in store.

I would just drop SAP damage by around 20%, allow it to deal full pen damage to destroyers, and increase the ship's RoF to 4 across the board. End result: SAP has high but not totally insane anti-DD alpha, still works to spam BB/CA with similar DPS, and doesn't result in AP sucking hard or being totally useless against DD.
