...and it goes without saying that there will be plenty of people itching to buy French Destroyer premium crates in order to get those sweet, sweet unlocks.

No doubt there will also be those who think it's worth paying out 30,000 doubloons to progress through a sequence of unlocks which bypasses ALL of that and gets you the Mogador immediately (together with other goodies along the way).

Before you do all this, or complain about any of it, remember:

1) These are TECH TREE SHIPS. You can have them FOR NOTHING, just by playing the game.

2) It is ALL ON YOU to determine whether the stuff in the premium boxes is adequate recompense if you fail to get an early-unlock mission. If you don't think so, DON'T BUY; there will be plenty of chances to earn the non-premium boxes in game.

3) Yes, the chain of purchases to obtain the Mogador early is obscenely expensive given that the ship is ultimately free to obtain. But nobody is forcing you to do it. There is a thing called willpower. WG does not control your mind or your actions; YOU do.

4) These are TECH TREE ships, and they are open to whatever buffs, nerfs or other adjustments Wargaming sees fit to give them, at any time. Don't come crying to me if nerfing happens after you spent some obscene amount of real-world money on something you could have had for free.

My advice would be to save any republic tokens you get and put them towards as many of the T5 to T8 permacamos as you can afford. That will provide the most lasting value as you move up the tiers.

The patch drops tomorrow; the directives will become available on Thursday, if they aren't unmasked before that. I have serious concerns about the possible structure and difficulty of Directive 3...

...and I hope I'm wrong. Best of luck to all.

Thank you for the attempt at reducing the number of complaint threads that get posted simply because people don't pay attention to all the details of the "deals" offered by WoWS. The attempt may work but I wouldn't be optimistic about it. The vast majority of players don't pay that close attention to what's going on. They just think this a cute shoot 'em up arcade game.

I am all for getting things for free and enjoying them. At the end of the day if you enjoy the game instead off min/maxing throw the developers a bone once in a while

They have families to feed and lights to keep on.

Just a thought.

30k dubs for a tech tree ship... 🤣.  WG’s sense of inflation and value is borderline Gucci.

Good post though, the grind is for ships that will be available eventually for free, people will forget this.  The Camo’s will be worth something.

I guess time will tell how many of the adrenaline-junkie squirrels are also in the habit of spending hundreds of dollars on free stuff. :Smile_trollface:

Oh for sure, and I've thrown them plenty of bones already in my time (and will certainly throw them more). But I'm talking about the people who spam premium crates over and over just to get the Tier 8 ship, and end up spending more money than it would have cost to convert elite XP to free and simply jump there. Then they come here to complain about how worthless the crates are (especially if they ran out of money before they got an unlock) and how they wasted all this money on a garbage boat (because they didn't learn the line and its peculiarities through playing it from the bottom).

Laziness, greed, and a total lack of restraint or critical thinking are to the fore in those people. WG doesn't have an obligation to protect them from themselves.

If it's for free, I'll grind the hard way, as always. Especially for tech tree ships. The Cossack rip-off is still fresh in my memory. I ground the RN CV line the hard way. This one will be the same  up until I reach the paper ships at the top end. I don't bother grinding those anymore.

Gambling is a powerful stimulant for some humans,

Not dinging you OP.  I get you are trying to be helpful.  Helpful is always a good thing.  However, one statement is not going to change their habits.  So many examples of folks just looking for that next brain high.  Just check out the multi-state lotteries and Las Vegas.

Even the church gets it.  Everytime I have been to Vegas I have seen nun's (or at least they looked like real nuns) standing outside the casinos looking for donations.

Just take whichever freebie is given and farm Free XP while playing like a normal human being if you wanna unlock something. Besides, it doesn't seem as if French DDs are particularly broken to necessitate some crazy rush towards them.

I can already imagine threads like "My new DD doesn't have smoke, WTH WG FIX IT"

I used to throw them bones.

Then they made it clear that they consider us idiots and suckers.

Well said sir.

I've never spent a dime on early unlock of tech-tree ships, and I don't understand why anyone would.  When it's been free, I've done the free stuff (see, RN BBs).

The French DDs look even less enticing than the Russian BBs, so this is a "meh" patch for me anyway.

It's not, but I feel like I've done my duty to remind them that no, spending that money is not actually NECESSARY to obtain the ships. The ones who can exercise restraint and realise their misconceptions might be saved a lot of grief. I've already seen one guy much relieved to know that no, he doesn't have to pay 30K doubloons for his only chance to get the Mogador; i.e. this isn't the Benham and you aren't going to miss out if you don't cough up.

I know. I'm torn between :fish_palm: and :cap_popcorn: with a side order of :cap_haloween:, but giving in to :cap_popcorn: will mean all my WOWS spending money will go on my waistline.

I vaguely recall buying ONE British container towards the end of the British DD early-unlock patch. I did it because the fact that all the containers gave out sovereigns which could be recycled back into crates meant that I had an extra bonus shot at it when added to the very few I had left (I'd already cashed in most of them on Duplicate Warspite Doubloons, so I had nothing to lose). I failed, but I knew that might happen and I was ready to take the hit. (I'd already got two of the missions in the first few days, so maybe expecting more was expecting too much, but you never know. I unlocked Pyotr Velikiy at literally the eleventh hour, and in retrospect that seems to justify having given that crate a shot.)

For the low, low price of $7, you'll be able to buy a 10 point captain! :Smile_trollface:

Probably healthier than spending it on a hamburger meal, and with no French commanders given out for credits in the Apocalypse event (because Kleber isn't in the normal game yet), I can almost see a market for it.

For a newer player? Sure, but even for someone like me, who doesn't play much anymore and never really bought into the grind, I have far too many captains as it is. And a 10 point captain isn't really worth $7 to me when they have given so many away for free..... I must have 20 10 point captains from ARP, that don't even have ships.:Smile_teethhappy:

There are patch notes around here somewhere.  If I recall the event starts Thursday (I think the patch drops tomorrow).

The directives usually kick off one day AFTER patch day, for the sake of those who get home late on patch day and have to waste the rest of the evening downloading it. The premium shop sales usually start on the Friday. Nevertheless, I thought it appropriate to put this up BEFORE all that goes live, so that it has time to sink in and be thrashed out.

Holy crap! Why didn't I think of that! Just tell people to not have an addiction. Ladies and gentlemen, we solved world hunger. We just need to tell them to stop being hungry. Big salute to you captains :Smile_honoring:
