Stuff like Battle of Midway, Battle of Philippine Sea, Layette gulf, Coral sea, etc. I'm also curious about what tiers they would be if they were to be added. lol

The Tier would be that for the highest Ships in the battle.

This is a fantastic idea.  Historical re-creation doesn't appeal to everyone, but I think it would appeal to a significant amount of the player base.  Even 'random' pvp battle mode where it is themed, ie USA vs Japan for a week, or UK vs German (low tier) for Jutland.

Night Battles. The Empress Augusta Bay scenario showed what can be done in large part. South Pacific. Historical map. Savo, Cape Esperance, Guadalcanal I, Guadalcanal II and Tassafaronga. All five of these battles cover off ships from T3 to T9 in the IJN and USN BB, CA/CL and DD lines. They all took place within a 20-kilometer radius of each other on the same map. YugumoFletcher and Benham are the T9s in question. Yubari and Kuma are the T4s. Tenryu, a T3, was present at one of these if my ageing memory has not failed me. There are currently no RN/RAN heavy cruisers other than Exeter, which could fill in for Canberra. Perth can fill in for Hobart. Leander fits in as well.

This is a broad range of tiers which we do not normally see in scenario battles. The actual ship classes that are present in the game would have to be used, rather than a free selection we normally see in scenarios. This still leave a pretty wide selection of ships to chose from. Not simple to do because of players' personal preferences, but possible. Some kind of tailored selection menu for the player to chose an eligible ship that is in their port might do the trick. Some of the task groups in the involved navies had the 12-ship maximum, and more in two cases. Needs some creative thinking, perhaps use of divisions.

It would take some type of workaround to allow the scenario to work when played from either side. The other aspect is that the match must start with the ships in their respective historical positions and cruising formations and speeds. The USN was reading IJN formations from about 20,000 meters on their radars, which is close to the normal opening spawn range in Random and Co-op battles. At 30 knots the historical ranges come down inside of 6 minutes to knife fighting range. The USN's advantage was radar, the Atlanta-class CL being the only ship currently in the game present at the first three battles that has radar. Indiananpolis is the eligible CA. The IJN advantage is torpedoes on everything except the BBs (Kongo-class T5s). With a historically accurate test map, this could be set up for testing in the Training Room.

I personally would like to see it played with two 12-ship teams, one against the other, maximum of two divisions per team allowed. A knife fight to the bone.....

WG cannot even be bothered to bring back half the operations that were in the game before the CV apocalypse.  We are not getting any new operations.

Raptor Rescue is coming back tomorrow, no?

But yes, overall, PvE content is low on their resource allocation list.

You could have gotten the Coral Sea experience by playing any time between 0.8.0 and 0.8.4.

the battles off salvo island would be a great start. we could even have it be PVP. you have to take the ships historicaly there and pick a side. make the rewards so people would want to do both sides.

The problem with PVE/Historical Battles is: It takes away from the pool of PVP players.  Wait times would increase and...well...  The content could be bad and now you lost both PVP players and PVE.  The content could be good, to good maybe, and lose PVP players.  The PVE may not come out fast enough and you'd lose PVE players and again PVP players because of pool-loss.

It's a delicate balance.

^ This.

It doesn't even need much balancing.  A bunch of Japanese ships of certain tiers verus a bunch of USA ships on a map.  Make rewards and an event out of it.

and the map for iron bottom sound would work well with WG love of maps filled with islands. because every naval comander wanted to have a fight where he had to worry about hitting rocks and shoals. lol

I don’t think WG likes OPs, they probably consume a ton of resources to create and the only possible return on investment is possibly promoting T6 and 7 premiums, and even that is probably a stretch.

We've been suggesting this idea for years.  North Atlantic convoy ops for COOP that include a lot of aircraft off the Scandinavian coast...   English channel protection actions against e-Boats and DD's....  Any of the Mediterranean skirmishes.  The entire Pacific actions or even, "what if's" like if the US actually got wind of the Pearl Harbor attack and they deployed out "just before the IJN got there....."

Holy crap, there are hundreds of events to chose from BUT, our host lacks the resolve to create "historically referenced" modes......  Stupid is as stupid does...!   There is a lot of money in there concepts and some real blue ocean opportunities because "anyone can create a young adult FPS arcade game...."   Anyone.  But, out there in the mature player niche, no one has a quality, historically based naval FPS of any consistent quality....   Why not be that corporation???

Oh well, they won't listen.

Frankly I'd like a night battle operation where we can actually play as the navy who trained for night combat.
