The characteristics of these ships are currently in the balancing stage. We will publish further details in the near futureWG_SPB_WoWs_Screenshots_Ships_Eritrea_1920x1080.thumb.jpg.fba02af28b1fe31899df1700a6cfc08e.jpgWG_SPB_WoWs_Screenshots_Ships_Nino-Bixio_1920x1080.thumb.jpg.22a05bcc50caf2127abef4626a4486da.jpgWG_SPB_WoWs_Screenshots_Ships_Taranto_1920x1080.thumb.jpg.f95655ca43670f31f44b849e0ccd117f.jpgWG_SPB_WoWs_Screenshots_Ships_Alberto_Di_Giussano_1920x1080.thumb.jpg.c74381d21c694b96415312284e3a1772.jpgWG_SPB_WoWs_Screenshots_Ships_Montecuccoli_1920x1080.thumb.jpg.821e418d11819f1f0400b5e0e403c742.jpgWG_SPB_WoWs_Screenshots_Ships_Trento_1920x1080.thumb.jpg.71b003fbdbddc4df8d536f17a7410cde.jpgWG_SPB_WoWs_Screenshots_Ships_Zara_1920x1080.thumb.jpg.e7f2aa036a55c3461fc13b935245fb46.jpgWG_SPB_WoWs_Screenshots_Ships_Paolo-Emilio_1920x1080.thumb.jpg.d64727bb9f89f089ea03340dac97aacb.jpg

With speed having been taken by the French, i wonder if this line will include the vaunted SAP that WG was referring to. Maybe exceptional long range torpedoes like the premiums or the ability to adjust torpedo range via speed indicator. Somerhing we haven't seem but are waiting to see?

Hmm, perhaps better firing angles and a faster reload than normal. That tier 10 destroyer looks a lot like a cruiser to me. Wonder when we will see the tier 8,9, and 10 here. At least we are getting Italians at last. Perhaps battleships will hit next summer or something.

I mean if Duca D'Aosta shows anything then these are going to be very interesting ships. I am curious as to what the T8-10 cruisers will be cause they aren't shown yet. The SAP sounds like it's gonna be very interesting too so maybe they're more geared towards anti DD/CL styles of gameplay

If it's the ship I'm thinking of, it's a Capitani Romani class CL.  But I guess you could also classify it as a really big DD.  I think this class was designed to counter the French heavy DDs.  It had eight 5" guns and 8 torpedoes (4 per side).  And it was really fast for a cruiser.  But pretty much no armor to speak of.

Was it significantly different from the Zara?  Or are you just interested because it did something cool historically?

Personally, I'm hoping for a San Giorgio or San Marco at tier III or IV.  No good reason.  I just want to see how it would stand up against other low tier cruisers.

I must say that I love the Ducas, especially the Abruzzi because I've done very well with them but they also just look SO good. Excited to see some more fantastic looking ships enter the game, definitely going to have to come back for these.

pola was built as a flagship and its forward superstructure was built larger (which I personally find it looks really nice)

I've actually got a thread on San Marco here: https://forum.worldofwarships.com/topic/189306-san-marco-the-last-armored-cruiser-of-the-regia-marina/

Here. You can watch it for yourself. I believe they talk about the Italians at about the 20 minute mark.

No DFAA, or Hydro. Instead a short version of the Perth smoke that only last 30 to 40 seconds but works at full speed.

Ammunition used is AP and SAP. SAP sounds like its higher damage version of RN cruiser rounds. They wont start fires but have better pen for light targets and a higher alpha damage.

Torpedoes are going to be like those on the premiums, long range and slow but with good concealment and moderate damage.

They talked about them being low DPM but very high alpha ships. Theyll be more about calculating when and what to shoot with each salvo.

Interesting: I'm assuming the T2 and 3s use 120mm guns (I'm not well versed with WW1 Italian designs) and T4 is the first Condotteri, Cruisers and she does 36knts(?) with little belt armor. the T5 is Duca D'Aosta downtiered.

Heavy cruisers start at T6 with Trento, then the improved class Zara at T7. Unless Pola was enough of a subclass to warrant her own class to stand out at T8, after Zara, no Italian cruiser actually exsisted past paper designs.

Paolo Emlio is also a premium, seeing the camo and gold name.

no hydro and DFAA while having British DD smoke merged with Commonwealth smoke seems interesting, but could easily be a recipe for disaster

Also, with Italian cruisers getting SAP and AP as ammo choices, this also means the premium Ducas just lost a lot of value as they need IFHE (as of patch 8.5) to be effective, so will the ducas be changed when the line comes out?

edit: looking at it, and from some long ago memory, Taranto looks like a down tiered Karlsuhe, which is possible seeing after WW1, the Italians did take some German cruisers and used them in Italian service, so maybe Taranto has 6in guns instead of 120mm.

This was asked on stream and replied in the negative.

huh. Guess we'll have to see how SAP works and how these ships will be affected by IFHE changes.

Honestly, this is something that really frustrates me about premium ships in this game.  IMO, premium ships of a nation should reflect that nation's national flavor for that ship type.  And if those premiums get released before the line (and its flavor) get released, the premiums should get tweaked to be consistent with that national flavor.

I'm going to guess the perma camo, but Trento, the T5 and T4 have it without any camo

I don’t expect the Duca d’Aosta or Abruzzi to resemble the playstyle of the final Italian cruiser line at all. Just like with the Warspite and Imperator Nikolai, the premiums predate WG’s design of their nation/class identity, and therefore will find themselves quite different by comparison.

I kind of wish the same, especially since the HE shells that Duca and Abruzzi have aren't all that great.

Finally, something to new grind on my IJN/Axis account (not counting German DDs, which haven't been especially interesting to me). Wonder what sort of paper designs they'll find/come up with to fill out the upper tiers. I know most people aren't fans of WG's paper designs, but I've found a few of them to be interesting (still wish they'd ditch the obsolete WWI era sighting hoods on Izumo's turrets and give her proper side mounted sighting ports and rangefinders to be more consistent with designs like Yamato and Nagato, same goes for Kii).

Just looked it up, she's a Magdeburg class, the immediate predecessor to the Karlsruhe. She was the SMS Strassburg in German service in case anyone's curious. And it was armed with the 150 mm guns. Wonder what the ballistics on them are going to be like? Be interesting to see how that SAP does compared to the regular German HE and AP.
