So the "random bundles" to try to get T9 Mogador are 1,000 doubloons each?  WOW.  I thought they were pricey at 500 each considering it'd take up to 15,000 doubs to get a T9 ship -- Now it's 30,000 doubloons to get a T9 ship.  WG you have lost your mind!

This occurs only after you've spent all event tokens to open up the first 4 "bundles" -- so spend a Benham's worth of event tokens, then up to 30k doubs to get a T9.   What's in the cross-hairs next to be turned into grueling grind?

Welp I know I will offend some people, but this is a deal for addicts and people that can't be a bit patient for a patch.

If someone is so horny for a Tier IX pixebote might as well splash the doubloons on Free XP conversion, save you the "surprise mechanic" aspect and keep the rest of the line as well.

Yes, but you must first spend a huge chunk of event tokens (1,400) to get to the "random 1000 doub bundle" -- that's the crazy part.

There are some people who have that many doubloons and more lying around and nothing to do with them.

At that point I don't know anymore.

Am just waiting on the tier X one armed bandit style boxes.

It's interesting though how the game's one allure, progression through the tiers and grinding is thouroughly trampled before the new lines even hit the servers.

But what he is saying is you need to do the grind for all the event tokens then after that you can use doubloons. Once again WG forces us to do a massive grind then spend doubloons.

Yeah, there is no way to simply buy your way into it.  I guess quite a few people said to hell w/ the benham grind and spent $200+ for the 50 something containers it took.

There are no tokens in the loot boxes this time -- an appreciable amount of playing must occur before the wacky gambling mode is enabled.

And that's what I meant about addicts.

My free advice to anyone interested in these ships is take whichever stuff is free first. Have a taste of the line if you are lucky since it has no smoke. Then, if you really want some high tier ship and can't wait just convert the XP and have it.

If anyone wants to play slot machines there are many online casinos.

Except you can see the contents of the “random” bundle before you make the purchase, so you are making an informed decision with each purchase. What is random is the order that the bundles drop.

Also, the ship is the tech tree tier IX French DD, which you can get for free when the tier IX and X drop in 0.8.8.

Yes, I have all of the contents screen shot from PT.  The ship is the tech tree ship.

The "logic" here regarding this event ---- I mean, who thought it up and who signed off on it.  Depending on how you slice it, 1,000 doubs is about $6.  The contents were borderline worth it in PT at 500 doubs.  1,000 ... speechless

Hell, yeah. Inevitably we will see people spam containers in order to get high-tier unlocks and shorten the FXP jump to T10, but that has happened since the dawn of the early-unlock crate.

This makes a big difference.

Don't you mean 0.8.7? We're in 0.8.5 now; the early unlocks drop in 0.8.6. Or are the high-tier ships dropping later? Whatever the case, yes; it's a tech-tree ship that you can get for nothing, yet people will be throwing stupid amounts of money at it while casting scorn on everything else they get along the way (which goes back to my reply to warheart at the top of this post).

In this context I think it's as much a combination of greed and laziness, but we can agree to differ.

Wrong. WG controls everything, including the level of grind. Combine that with the constant warfare on your psyche from all these "free" to play mechanics (there is a reason why gambling is regulated and why there are help groups out there), WG is fully aware of what they are doing.

This is a money making venture, trying to tease out money from people for early access  and grind avoidance.  For me, don’t see any problem selling early access, only impacts present players, after the event , normal grinding (or use of free exp).  Event allows for WG to attempt to recover some of the sunk costs of the new line.  I still enjoy the game and need willing bodies to throw money at it (since I am not), to keep it viable...

The way I see it, there are two "addictions" that fuel each other.

There is the addiction to new content before everybody else, to show the new toy around. In that sense also Free XPing on line releases is based off that.

But then there is also the addiction to lootboxes and their contents, which some argue is gambling.

By combining these two WG can put pressure on both of these fields by combining the early access, showoff character of the first, with lootboxes from the second.

And I mean, it's a way to monetize your game, far larger names than WG follow this practice and they seem to do ok. Even if it becomes regulated some other loophole will be found and so on. That doesn't mean I have to like it, and while everyone has a right to spend his money any way he/she wants it can still leave a bad taste.

Just what the heck are you smoking? :Smile_teethhappy: "Constant warfare on your psyche", my foot. Language like that makes it very difficult for me to take your opinion at all seriously; it makes me think you're the person pictured in your avatar. What did the aliens/lizard-men/Communists put in your head today?

I really hope people don't buy surprise mechanics for these high tier destroyers.  It's only a matter of time before the pendulum swings back towards CVs.

Sigh. You are part of the problem with the gambling and free to play mechanics ruining the gaming community.

No, Ensign_Cthulhu is right, WeeGee can't force you,me, or anyone else to play anything, you have to want to do it.
And in this particular case, I'll just wait out this whole event until the full line has dropped. I'll play what I want of the directives to get tokens if I chose to do so.

The entire line is very unappealing to me, YMMV.

That's not addiction; that's a character defect.

My definition of gambling includes, as a necessity, a high probability of zero return on one's investment. WOWS lootboxes have something in them, so it doesn't qualify for me.

The inability of some people to assign a monetary value to the least-value return and make a purchase decision (yes/no, how many) is IMO another character defect, possibly due to institutional flaws that have crept/been inserted into Western education systems.

See, part of the problem. Next, you'll tell me that it's ok to just start sending people meth because "its their choice"

You are a large part of the problem destroying the community.

That is like saying alcohol advertisements = alcoholism.

In a very simplistic way it is true.  But if you can't avoid destructive behavior, all life is a pressure towards addiction.
