A day late and a dollar short, because my town had a statutory holiday yesterday and I spent most of the morning doing anything other than playing WOWS (but WOWS was eventually played; have no fear).

I finished the Furious grind, unlocked and bought the Implacable... and got T10 matchmaking with AA-heavy bots in all three of my first co-op games in her. Ouch!!!  Am looking forward to the new MM rules mitigating runs of consecutive bottom-tier battles; sure I don't expect to spend all my time beating up on T6, but this was just murder and I could get absolutely nothing of any consequence done. (It might just be new-ship unfamiliarity; hints are welcome.)

Bought the Perth at 50% off and I quite like her.

Needing a break after finishing that 158K carrier grind, I had a few stabs at high-tier cruiser games for the Honourable Service campaign. Good wins in Baltimore and Cleveland, and a loss in Minotaur that was still productive in terms of secondary batteries destroyed. Played around on the PTS a fair bit, where I shot down lots of bot airplanes in my Akatsuki and found that the Kagero is (sadly) a very different beast in that respect. Realised with mild horror that I'd forgotten to put modules on my live-server Akatsuki when they were cheap (fool me), but that's OK because I'm probably going to go with a different build to the one I normally use. Now that I've seen what the AA can do against bot carriers, I'm going to make a gunship out of her and drive her in co-op where life is more exciting and you can successfully pull off YOLO rushes that would get you killed to no good end in Randoms. This game IS ultimately about having fun, after all.

Not sure about whether I want to move further up the IJN destroyer line, but if I get lucky at Halloween and pick up the Kagero Halloween skin I'll grab her for sure.

Played almost exclusively Savage Battles last night. Had mixed success... which is to say a long run of failures with some kills and even a few wins at the end. Unlocked the Level 2 Octopus ship (the Shimakaze clone) right at the end, but didn't have time for more than one battle in her before bed. Am about 1/3 of the way through the Rogue Wave cash grind and halfway through the flood and fire mission, and then this directive is done. Considering carefully whether I can get everything done before it's all over and pick up the Hill (I never even considered the Benham), but I have an opportunity for an extended session on Friday night and it MIGHT still be possible.

Played the usual mix of randoms and coop over the weekend.  Finished my NC grind last week, but have yet to outfit or play my new Iowa (I do have the MO, so I'm familiar with the basics); will probably work on it some this coming weekend.  Finished the third directive on Sunday.  Have to see how the week goes.  Yesterday was so so with the RW games.  Played some coop prior to doing RW, but really didn't have much time to play.  The fourth directive will be a challenge.

Needing a break after finishing that 158K carrier grind,

In AA-heavy matches, it's typically good practice to scout for your team so they can see which enemies are heading to what caps/direction.  It gives the enemy team time to (hopefully) spread out and thin our their AA-defenses a little bit.  After that, use your rocket planes to light up and beat up on red DDs a bit before moving to larger ships.

As for the 158k grind, just wait till you get to the 330k T10 CV grind, if you choose to do so.  It takes seemingly forever in PvP, so I could just imagine the haul it would be in PvE.

I have sadly neglected this mode until now, perhaps to my ultimate cost. It didn't click with me the way Space Battles did, perhaps because of the way you start with no consumables at all, and so I was stuck with only the basic ships until late last night.

That being said, having the Shima clone will give me a better tool for making torpedo soup and my rate of kills and floods might be a bit higher from now on.

There is no way in hell I'm doing the whole grind in co-op, but every time I get a new ship I take it out in co-op for a spin in stock form (no upgrade modules even) with a zero-point captain to see what the baseline is like. I've heard enough about the nightmare that is T10 CV service costs, and that puts me off the entire concept until my credits are in the high hundred millions and I no longer need to care. I am content to puddle along quietly, unlocking the various high-level aircraft as I get to them and kicking the decision on T10 way down the road. WG gave the permacamo for the Imp away for essentially zero effort (ongoing collection), so at least I could dress her up once I had her.

I'll be keeping the Furious, though; I keep all my prize ships and early unlocks that I win (or in the Furious's case grind; that was a very interesting way to give away an early-bird ship), and that means I'll throw a permacamo at her when they're next half-off. Plus the Furious is 3.6 million credits in the black, after paying off her upgrade modules and captain-transfer fee (the 200K); getting her all p*mped-out as an unlock was really valuable. I considered paying the money for the florins to get the Implacable at the time, but ultimately I have saved myself $64 CDN by grinding to her and all things considered it hasn't been a bad grind.

Look, I know the costs are daunting at tier 9+ but consistency is key and can make these tiers viable without the need for premium account or permanent camouflage.

Clan benefits, good single use camouflages, careful signal choices, Ranked Star flags, these things can make it bearable.

That said, you need to be able to pull your own weight performance wise, and if not confident in that department I can understand wanting to abstain.

I made the decision for permanent Warships premium time last Christmas and am glad I did. I hope they have that super special again this year. I don't mind spending at least that much per year on this game; on a per-day basis it's stupidly cheap for the benefits I get. I know all the other stuff.

Fortunately, the Halsey campaign is do-able in co-op and I have at least one of those tasks always in queue, so even my worst efforts in the Imp will make a small contribution to that. Right now I'm trying to get my silver reserves in a sane place, because I have a shopping list for ships, modules etc. that is currently far in excess of my credit balance! :Smile_coin:

I've played the RW mode in spurts.  Play some randoms or coop (or both, depending on what I'm in the mood for or need at the time), then play through my 6 or 7 RW destroyers (working on the next one; should get that today probably); then bounce back to coop or randoms as time permits.  Luckily, the RW games can be quick (I've died frequently), although every so often I get that "one" game where the whole team does well and we win (rather than me leaching off of others for wins when I over-extend and die quickly; usually trying to get the + consumable that adds a repair party to the entire 3-person team).  Adds to captains XP too; but that is a slow amount compared to the Space Battles or other events, in my opinion (but you can get through several games in a short time, so the experience does add up).  I've been sorta keeping track, and I think I've accumulated over 200K since the end of June (including use of my 1 current 19 pt captain).  Almost 1700K total in free captain XP saved up so far (looking to get 1-2 more to 19 points so the free xp accumulates faster between these sort of events).

That's the right thinking. They've had quite a lot of them recently; this is the third in twelve months, if you include the extended Halloween event and Space Battles. But having your own and being able to work up ECXP in the interim is always a good thing.

The first starts the ball rolling; the second lets you have a 19 pointer to reach for if the first is waiting to come back to port; the third ensures you're almost never without one. Try to spread them across nations and to prefer the ones in which you have the most premiums, so that you've got the greatest possible variety of ships to put them in. Avoiding boredom when grinding ECXP is half the battle. I even gave both of my first two Last Stand so that they could drive destroyers effectively (I have quite a few premium DDs in both USN and RN), but after that you can afford to specialise a little more.

I only played on Sunday.  I WAS all logged on and set to play Sat, then work called- all in a panic- with a load that HAD to be covered NOW.   Mo' $$$ for me trumps playing ,so, lol.

Sunday I planned on working on Montana's Legendary module grind.  Don't want the module, but I DO want the goodies for finishing that last step- and I want the stupid thing out of my personal missions box... (it's been there long enough, lol!)    IMO, the drawbacks for equipping the legendary modules far outweigh the advantages- and what you have to NOT equip to do it.

Anyhow, after a 6k damage game- due to a giant smoke cloud that obscured the enemy team for most of the game (our smoke, mostly), followed by the usual  point blank torp slaughtering of the bots, I pulled the plug.   Eff this.

Tier 1, baby!!!  NO torps!  Just gunboats and glorious brawling, lol.   I branched out to play Albany and Charleston too.  (they were getting antsy, and the crews were causing too many problems around port due to boredom)  Even played a few games in the Tier 4 Frenchie BB- which is a freaking beast.   I used it to go DD hunting, lol.

I'd forgotten what it's like not to have to equip every flag I got and play for weeks to earn that next captain point, lol.   Points 18 and 19 are freaking SALTY, trying to grind them out in pve.

GRIND

...but last night I got my Benham, so now I can play something other than Savage and Co-Op.
