Why most people like BBs?

I mean they’re kind of hard to play with their bad reload and requires you to aim well. But once I saw as many as 55 BBs queuing for battle.

As a DD and Cruiser player, I am confused.

Many reasons, historical reasons, its pretty cool to roll around in ships that once existed or still do.

Well, the queue numbers are explained by the recently released Soviet battleship line.  Whenever the game releases a new line of ships, including carriers, it spikes the queue.  I've seen over 140 destroyers in the queue, as well as over 90 cruisers in the queue at any one time, as new lines are released.  It then settles down.

Also, battleships tend to be the most forgiving to play - you have high striking power when you land shots.  You have armour and lots of hitpoints meaning you tend to survive a bit longer, and you have time to plan your shots before reloading.  All of these things help new players, who just need to learn how to aim and not yolo.

The other classes rely on consumables and concealment/spotting mechanics to survive.  That takes more time to learn.

Quite often it's Power fantasy I would see. Many people will automatically assume the largest ships to be the strongest.

Because its the only way for some of them  to stay alive longer than 4 mins.....and sometimes they cant even stay alive for 5 mins in a bb.

Because Battleships were historically speaking your show off fleet for the majority of the timespan covered by this game. Navies would always present themselves using their largest units. The Royal Navy did not present their Torpedoboats or Destroyers, it was mostly their Battleships and Battlecruisers. Germany did not send Emden to the coronation of King George VI, they sent Graf Spee, at that point their largest vessel.

That leads to Battleships being the most famous ships for the common person. No surprise that players want to play these ships.

They're resilient, tanky, and allow me to both play aggressively, and draw fire off more vulnerable allied ships. I also think they - probably tied with cruisers in this regard - play most like the real thing (not in terms of stupid bow tanking, of course, but rather in being a unit that fights at range, has strong secondaries, and doesn't rely on "magic" like smoke/ridiculous concealment, space-ship-speed-planes, etc).

They are also nostalgia-fueled - BBs, CLs and CAs don't exist anymore, whereas destroyers and carriers are everywhere. I play WoWs to at least brush against an era in naval combat that will never return. Battleships meet that need.

Whenever I first started playing WoWS..I was playing on an satellite internet connection. Ping was normally 600 ish...part of the reason I went with BB's at that point was the 3 second lag just meant I had to add another 3 second lead time into my shots. It wasn't until I switched over to wifi connections that I really was able to play anything else, lol.

They are hard to play, but if you aren't pushing only a CV will survive longer. So even a bad player will feel satisfied with their time investment, especially if they get one lucky citadel for that burst of dopamine. Conversely a DD can die to a single hit just from bad luck occasionally.

The only more noob friendly class is the CV, but that doesn't seem to have remotely the appeal of beautiful, powerful and surprisingly useless (historically) battleships. I know I used to assume BBs were king (queen?) in history.

Low rate of fire means you can look around between shots, they currently have the best potential for situational awareness of any ship in game by virtue of having the time to look at the map. Still have to use it though.

Longest ranged weapons in game, barring CV's, so you can participate in the battle even after you have killed everything near you. Or they can spam HE rounds from the far reaches of the map and do essentially nothing.

Best armor and health pools in game, means you can slug it out with almost anything and shrug off hits that would break other ships in one shot, Or they can hide behind an islands to avoid getting burned to the waterline by 6" gun cruisers.

Secondary batteries, BB's have them, and most can make good use of them, cruisers get a taste of them, but can't really make effective use of them, some battleships are built around them. That of course would mean actually closing with the enemy, which doesn't happen nearly enough. My Graf Zeppelin gets in more secondary brawls that most BB players.

Driving the big stick, every country in naval history has built destroyers and cruisers. A Nation having battleships meant it was in the big leagues, and a world power. People like making themselves important.

As a DD main since closed beta I too wondered why folks played BB, then I blapped a few cruisers from orbit and I was hooked. Still DD main but play all classes now and I get the same enjoyment from a triple cit kill in a BB as I do from a torp dev strike.

As you stated "historically" speaking this is true for either a navy buff or someone 100 years old. Since WWII the Carrier has been the Showcase of any large navy with all other classes ( except maybe nuclear subs) filling a supporting role.

Your experience with battleships limited to low tier ships like Nassau and South Carolina.  These are very sluggish with awful gunnery compared to some of the high(er) tier BBs, which have much better mobility and gunnery, which substantially increases the fun factor.

Since WW2 surface engagements ceased being, with focus switching to submarines and carriers. But for what timespan we have in the game, BBs will be the show-offs.

Who doesn't like to glance down and see themselves in control of a 16in cannon?

They are famous and the stuff of historical legend.  They represented the pride and might of the countries that built them.  Massive military status symbols.  Everyone knows the Yamato, Iowa and Bismarck.

The Shimakaze and various 2,000-ton depth-charging convoy escorts?  (Crickets)

One is the aura surrounding battleships in the real world. A BB's heavy armor and repair party makes it the most forgiving ship in the game. And then there are the main guns which gives the ability to snipe at long range.

DD's are the least forgiving ships and you're a priority target.

Because you can read a book or a magazine …

and answer phone calls - all at the same time :)

Heck you don't even need to enter the battle the first 5 mins lol … then farm away

I'd rather have 6-inches.  I make it hurt.
