I have the Mass and love her. In your opinions would Georgia be a good fit for me or is it different enough from Mass that I might not like it? TIA

I'm pretty confident that you'll like the Georgia as well.  I'm just not entirely sure you will want to run the same commander on the Georgia as the "Big Mamie" (assuming you are using (or plan to use) BFT, AFT ,IFHE, and Manual Control of Secondaries on the Massachusetts commander).  I've been running the Georgia in COOP using the Massachusetts commander (full secondary skill set) and it is a complete blast -- but for Randoms, you may need to focus more on survivability skills -- depends on your play style I guess.

Good luck!

Georgia is kind of a hybrid of the Massachusetts and the Iowa, and plays as such. Her secondaries aren’t her main attraction, her big guns and high speed are. You have to be careful bringing her into range to use her secondaries, as her sides are very fragile and give up citadels easily. She’s not a tier IX Massachusetts, she’s really her own beast.

I prefer Mass to be honest. She just feels more comfortable to me. Granted, Im probably not playing Georgia  right, and I dont have that many battles in her yet. I just cant get a good feel for her.

If you love the Mass like I do...I say grab Georgia and have a blast. YMMV somewhat better with her. Just remember that she is relatively squishy...I think more squishy than Mass is.

GA is a decent state, low personal income taxes and great gun laws (TN and FL have no personal income tax however) --- Oh, you mean the ship ... don't have her yet.

Can you legally have a rifle in your front seat with a mag in it? (Chamber needs to be empty)

/North Dakota is best Dakota.

Personally I find that the Marmy captain translates perfectly to Georgia..

I use my 14 point marmy capt in her. PT / AR / BFT / Manual sec and AFT , when i get a free respect ill respect BFT to SI .

Only non secondary mod i use is the dispersion tier 9 mod.

Georgia is a very unusual combination of a sprinter, sniper, and standoff brawler. It's actually not an easy ship to play to its fullest, because speed in particular is hard to make use of -- it's a strategic tool rather than tactical; you have to know what positions are going to be valuable, and the speed will assist you in getting to them before the enemy. In return, it does have a very poor armor and citadel profile from the sides, and thus is not good in a joust (you'll get cit hard). The guns are a very mixed bag, you either love them or hate them -- you will get shells to land on the target if you aim right at almost any range, and they will overmatch cruiser armor, but the max damage is not high due to the low barrel count.

Overall, fun ship that plays in an unusual way. You could try to play it like a Massachusetts, but you'd be missing out on pretty much everything that makes it good. And you'd probably get yourself in way too much trouble if you just slam the pedal to the floor at the start of the match with the speed boost on, so definitely don't do that.

Georgia is a Massachusetts transformed from a specialist to a generalist.  Most of what you love from Massachusetts is preserved, however Georgia buffs two of Massachusetts weak points:

  1. Georgia is much (MUCH!) faster.
  2. Georgia's guns are very accurate.

Georgia pays for this in two ways.  First, Georgia loses Massachusetts incredible torpedo-defense system, so she takes a LOT more damage from torpedo hits than Massachusetts does.  Second, she trades off a bit of agility.  Georgia has a much larger turning radius.  Without her Engine Boost active, she doesn't turn quite as quickly as Massachusetts does.

Finally, the biggest difference is their tiering.  Georgia is tier IX, Massachusetts at tier VIII ... so no more clubbing tier VIs. Otherwise, your ship performance is largely similar.

The Georgia is a ship that fits in the more "jack of all trades" role than a pure BB role. Yes, the secondaries are appealing and a strength but to rely on them solely and to base your ship build on it is the wrong way to go about it IMO. I would suggest more of a hybrid build when you are building the Georgia because the guns are still good and you want to take advantage of that. The speed of the Georgia is something that can get even the most experienced players in trouble because you can flex around the map so much but you can also leave your support behind. The Georgia is a good ship but you have to take the time to learn how to use her properly.

Let us go over some of the characteristics of the Georgia:

Positives -

  • Large caliber guns albeit low number of barrels. These guns are very accurate as the trade off to a lower number of barrels.
  • Speed and more speed! With speed flag and boost you can get around 40 knots if I am not mistaken?
  • Secondaries that can do a good job of supplementing your main gun damage.

Negatives -

  • Speed (I know I listed it as a positive as well) because it can get you to over-extend and you not even realize it sometimes.
  • Armor overall is not that good and can lead you to get punished by opponents.
  • Torpedo protection is not that great just like LWM pointed out.

If you do end up getting the Georgia enjoy her and try different things until you find the way you want to play her =).

I really think WG should offer up a better rental option for some of these ships, so people can test drive them.  Even if it is restricted to public testing periods on the test server, I know I personally would be MUCH more willing to break open the wallet or spend the coal I'm saving if I could actually give these guys a test run through a few battles.

I think it could be as simple as allowing someone to run 10 battles on a specific ship before they need to pay or something.  Maybe limit it to 1 test run per month to avoid abuse.  I don't know.  Might prevent a few purchases but i think it would get more than it loses.

You can watch all the videos in the world, but until you get your hands on the wheel, you never know how the boat will do for you.  I have several ships in port that are supposedly OPbotes, but I can't get them to work well (looking at you, Alaska).

Mass is my favorite ship in the game.

Georgia may now be my second favorite.

I find using the secondaries to great effect on the Georgia to be harder than with the Mass, since the engagement ranges with tier 9 and 10 tend to be longer (the same way it's tougher to have your secondaries be as useful in Mass in a tier 10 game vs a tier 8 game), but the main guns are so much more reliable.  I think I play it more like Iowa than Mass, but with a preference for ranges that suit Mass, if that makes any sense.

Bottom line, it's a load of fun.

It's basically an Iowa/Missouri with MA secondary's and only 6 guns (bigass hurt stuff guns but still just 6).  It is very squishy so you have to be careful getting too close.
