The first time I took out Schores some days after WG introduced Russian cruisers into the game, a Colorado lobbed shells over an island from max range and deleted me before I could even fire my guns. That’s just bad luck, I thought. The subsequent matches proved me wrong. There was no distance or angling  that kept me safe so I parked her up. Some years passed. A week ago I decided to revisit Schores . I’m more experienced now, (Schorely) I’ll do better. Lol Nope, wrong again. This time tho, I got prem time, slapped on my best camo and signals minimizing the grind best I could. Near the end, I inquired about Chappy and the consensus was that she was equally fragile. Uff why am I even bothering? Little did I know that despite what I was told, she would be one of the funnest and most rewarding ships I’ve played. My maiden voyage in a stock Chappy was a 160k loss. Every other match win or loss has been rewarding even when facing off against a mostly tier X team. She is better than Schores in every way and that to me is rare when graduating one tier up. I’m comfortable escorting DDs into a cap,  I’ve overextended and gotten focused by 7 high tier ships and escaped with enough HP to continue the fight. She is a lot more forgiving than I thought. Amidst all the current animosity towards the game, this light cruiser has unexpectedly renewed my interest in Warships.

Awesome. Glad you found a ship you enjoy. I think we all encounter a few ships that we just seem to have bad luck in but we also find those rare jewels we are unstoppable in.

Schors is just so meh, that is makes Chapy seem great in comparison.  The other thing that helps Chapy is most of the other T8 Cruisers are all minor incremental improvements of their T7 forebears.  Compared to DDs and BBs, T8 cruisers leave me sort of flat.  Considering the crap MM in random for T8, the declining economics of COOP at T8-10, lack of operations (speaking of where have you been, has anybody seen Cherry around?)  T8 cruisers are the most tedious grind there is to me.  Got 2 T8 cruisers right now on the super slow once a day (maybe) coop grind program.  Could easily add a couple more to that list since their T7 predecessors are grinded (ground?), but can only have so many tedious grinds going at once before the fun goes away.

Anyway, good for you that you enjoy Chapy.  If you like her then you might like Donski too...except that slow Rof does change playstyle a bit.

Schoors, like the A-Hull Chappy, plays well as a long range HE spammer.  KEEP YOUR DISTANCE, and DON'T SAIL IN A STRAIGHT LINE.

Invest in a spotter upgrade, and JOAT captain skill to rain down annoyance from far outside their accurate gun range.

When you get to 'B-Hull' Chappy, you lose the spotter plane - but pick up Radar..  That makes it an entirely different fighting style from there.

Another ship that fights this way is the Duca D'aosta.  Give it a spotter mod and it's rain pain time.

I was under the impression that both Chapayev hulls now have radar. The obsolete non-radar hull got a buff to its spotting plane and was removed to T7 premium as the Lazo.

Congrats @giovybez! Skuggsja nails the point with his above comment.

:cat_cool:

Just want to add a suggestion for everyone, from time to time go back and replay some of the ships you may have roared through when you were first grinding a specific line. You may find a "hidden jewel" that best fits your current playstyle and strength. :cap_look:

BTed, it would be great it the Developers could incentivize this a bit more. While I understand Tier 10 is the pinnacle of play, we dont often have much incentive to revisit lower tiers once we are done with our grinds to the top. Ranked, Clan Battles, and even the Victory Competition all promote, or ar limited to Tier 10. While we will soon have a ranked sprint season at Tier 7, I feel the Victory event, or other events like it (Fly, Strike Win) could be used to help boost lower tier play more often.

Right now the Victory Competition awards the most points for accomplishments in Tier 10 but what if one day it awarded more for Tier 5, the next Tier 9, the day after could be Tier 6, and so on with the weekend being primarily Tier 10?  Abruzzi is one of my favorite ships 8n the game right now, and has been, but between Clan Battles, the Victory Competition, Ranked, and Legendary grinds I dont play it because there is so much Tier 10 stuff to do. Grinding from Vlad to Kremlin was one of the only reasons I played lower tier. So perhaps WG could consider  something like I'm suggesting?

Thanks very much for the feedback @Skuggsja.

Thank you for your thoughts on how to possibly make the events more accessible to all tiers of players. :Smile_honoring:

This is awesome advice, my experience in the Schors lately is very positive as long as we play her this way.

Somewhat funny, the entire Russian tech tree cruiser line has been that for me so far.  Not rugged enough to take hits, not agile enough to evade hits (compare, some of the cruisers from the US or German lines that are both rugged enough to take hits and agile enough to evade hits).

I'm to the Derpy Donski, and have sold off each ship as I've bought the next.  The only reason I kept the Buddy was because of the free premium camo that's on it.

Ironically, the Krasny Krym actually works well for me, better than any of the ships on the tree so far.

Personally I considered the loss of the spotter a downgrade, and it was the last nail in the coffin to not bother keeping Chappy in my fleet, on top of the standard Russian stumbling tinfoil design.

I don't roar through ships, and I don't sell them off unless I actively dislike them.

I like a lot of the lower and middle tier ships, but my playing time is limited, and those ships rarely count for missions, so I have to choose between having fun in those ships, or getting Daily and Event stuff done.   If more missions counted those ships, I'd play a lot more Wyoming, Kuma, Vampire, etc.

Some of you guys might remember Project R. To earn pearls, some of the missions required you to have ships of a particular tier. As a  result, I started keeping my best ships of every tier. This was a great way to encourage players to revisit some of the ships they might have steamed through.

Glad it works for you. The Movska is the only one of that line I've kept and we don't really get along. It really could use better AP pen angles like the Stalin gets.

I just can't get the Shchors to work for me. It gets citadel-d even when shells miss half the time (had a game were the shell splashed behind my rudder for a sweet 10k hit). Its weak hull must also be well known by the community because even though I'm behind the BBs, I'm still focused down early thus leading to a crappy low damage game. One day I'll get the Chappy. One game at a time.

I don't know if it's that, or more that Russian CLs are annoying long-range HE spammers, so get rid of them whenever possible.

I do like Chapayev though. It's the only T8 ship I have that can pretty much ignore being uptiered. It's not any harder to play in a T10 game than a T8 game.

Yup that is the key, we must avoid hits at all costs and shoot shoot shoot. Use the scout plane for added range and dance. "even though I'm behind the BBs, I'm still focused down early".  When I use a BB I will always target "squishy" cruisers over BBs because I love to delete them with a single salvo, Shchors is no exception if I catch one broadside I lick my lips in  anticipation. Patience is required, when a BB can't hit you they will almost always give up trying even as you rain fire on them.

Definitely not a ship that we can "ride" but rather one that must be piloted with the utmost attention to situational awareness. I don't have a great survival rate in the Shchors and I have been sent to the bottom more than once with a single salvo, but I try to dish out more than I receive before I head to Davy's locker.

Here is a loss in Shchors from last week. Probably gonna revisit Chappy next....if I get tired of Irian that is!

Shows my age a bit.  I was disappointed the 'A' Hull Chappy didn't have Radar, so I clubbed my way through with a spotter mod.

When I finally got the 'B' hull..  I had an even bigger disappointment...  I lost the spotter.  I had to completely adjust the playstyle..  and I'm still there..  semi-retired at the Chappy on that ship line.

I just bought back the 'A' hull to get some spotter fun back..   You are right.  It's not there anymore.  Such a loss.

But the Budyonny, Duca, and now Des Moines are now the spotter plane HE spam abusers.  Just launch that spotter and light up all those camping BBs in the backfield..  and keep up your WASD.
