Greetings forum!

I have what are likely the most basic of questions to ask on the topic of operations. I have not played an op yet, and I'm curious now.

So how exactly do they work? What are the rewards? What combat goes on? What are the stars? Etc.

I am just hoping to better understand the operations and try them out. Tips would be appreciated by me and any future teams!

If you want the specific award, you can just select the relevant operation and hover your cursor over the stars, which ought to show you the exact reward for getting 1-5 stars.

Basically, they're PvE battles but instead of basically being randoms but against bots, instead they focus on much different objectives. Most of them involve escorting something like a convoy of transports or destroying certain targets. Your team will usually be sailing all tier 6/7/8 ships, while the enemy can range from tier 2 to tier 9 or even tier 10 on some ops.

Apart from the primary objective, there are secondary objectives which grant you an additional star. Usually there are no more than 5 or so, but they can change. Note that you must complete the primary objective as well, or else the operation is still considered a failure.

I personally do scenarios a lot because it provides equal rewards to PvP modes like random and ranked without all the salt. Certain ops also are very good for farming xp, free xp, or silver. Note that generally speaking you need to do well on the op (like 4-5 stars) to get similar rewards to PvP.

It's worth noting that because of the CV rework, currently most ops are unavailable.

@MommaSheep1738 The Star rewards can only be won once. So once you get a 5 Star win you wont get any more. You can play the scenario as much as you like during the week it is up. The XP, Free XP and Credits earnings are great particularly for wins, much better than co op.

I play OPS/Scenarios looking to get 4-5 stars each outing.  For the most part, they are always the same with some minor changes to ship type from time to time.  If you do well (XP wise) and load up your ship with camo & flags you can really rake in the points.  If memory serves, I picked up over 50K worth of elite captain XP in my Boise which was loaded (camo & flags) on a 200% XP day playing the scenario Narai.

It all depends on your team though...  Currently there are only four scenarios in the mix and I'm still amazed at how players struggle even though the same thing happens again and again and again...  Groundhog Day!

If you want to get serious and consistently get 5 stars, which pays very well mind you, you should do it with the pros. You'll find them nightly (NA time) in the Hoperations channel in Discord (mic required).

Once you get a decent sized Div, you can pick any op the Div wants (some are more fun than others).

If you go it alone, you get only the Op of the Week and you'd be lucky to get a knowledgeable group and finish with 4-5 stars . Really if the team knows what they are doing there is no reason not to get 5 every time. With pubbies, good luck, as they do not listen to the experienced Ops players that know the lay of the land. they do what they want then they lose stars at every turn.

Beyond what people have already said in this thread, Operations are not particularly complicated. Go ahead and dive in. No reason to hesitate. You can do them over and over so you will learn as you go. And most of the time other players are friendly enough if you ask for advice in game. For example: "This is my first time doing this Operation -- what should I do?"

(of course the problem with playing with them is that until you get better, you won't get all the XP.)

 

Pro tip: Some Operations reward Premium time, which commences as soon as you win that reward. You might want to be strategic about completing those operations at a time when you can take full advantage of that Premium time. I am mostly Free-to-Play so Premium Time is rare and valuable for me. I made a plan to get run those operations at the beginning of a 24-hour period when I knew I would be able to play a lot so as to maximize the benefit of that Premium time.

I don't think there has been a thread created for it. One thread that would probably make sense to pin might be my directory thread to make finding information on all the operations easy to do.
