Playing the current scenario, trying to nail a charging red DD  and finally noticed something...the bots don't drive in straight lines! Instead of a bee-line charge, like in coop, the bots were constantly changing heading. The DDs actually use their smoke instead of constantly outrunning it. Seems like WG  has upped the difficulty a bit, which is a good thing. Then played a co-op game and the bots were  still straight line yolo boats until something makes them turn. Does Coop ever get the smarter Bots?

Oh? You mean like the bots that suddenly change course behind an island to spoil an attack by an UNSPOTTED aggressor? Or the bots that react the instant a torpedo launch is made? Or any number of other things ‘dumb’ bots do on occasion?

They don't run in straight lines...but they do stick to a set pattern...although for each OP there are 3 or 4 variant patterns but once you have played them all enough times you will get the patterns down.

Co-op has smarter bot on the public tests but they haven't been incorporated into the live server yet...they would definitely need to up the XP/battle if they do as they are some serious u-turning back to spawn running campers & the battles last way longer for basically the same XP.

The bots were so much better many years ago.. Cannot remember when exactly it changed.. But they actually had some 'strategy' coded into them. They for some reason redid their code so they pretty much just sail towards the opposite spawn.

lol

It seems to come and go, but occasionally the bots are positively ‘human’ in their ‘fear’ of getting their pixels scratched.

Yep.  Had a few games where the last bot runs and hides behind an island.

Actually there's a few maps where they continually beach themselves at certain places (& they spend the whole battle reversing & then going right back into the island again & again & again)...& those places always seem to be at a place where you have to go way around an island to get a good shot on them to finish them off & they are always the only bot on that side of the map so after finishing off all the others it takes just as much time (or longer) to run out to kill that 1 as it did to kill off the other 7.

"Smarter" AI exists... co-op mains have been BEGGING for it to be turned on in regular co-op battles for quite some time now. Apparently some folks at WG still think co-op should be the "kiddie pool" where new players go to learn basic tactics... so we get to keep the YOLO AI even though dealing with a charging bot requires a completely different set of tactics than dealing with players in randoms, who quite often flee instead of charging.

This^^^

Bots in Operations are scripted and since you are usually following a set path per the scenario, the bots seem to be smarter. There are traps if you go too far off the planned path in an Op, so be careful.

Yep, I call them scaredy bots when they don't want to fight.

with AI bots can be trained to be totally unicorn best players that can beat human, i am pretty sure WG has bots with smartness range from 0-100, then they randomly drop different types into battle, just like human~, easy farm of bots will be harder...

Nah, the bots are worse than that. All bots were perma-chat banned a while back. They would say things like this in chat to the players and each other.

When a bot takes a dislike to you, he will discuss you in the Overflow Buffer Lounge over a pint of ALGOL 58, BLISS, Java or the many other drafts between games. That is why some co-op games you will see your target number go like, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 9 (the bots cheat). If they hate you enough, they will focus you down every match. Try saying things like this to the bots in game.

Hopefully you can get back on the bots good side with those messages. :Smile_teethhappy:

Yeah, it seems that the bots have something like easy, medium, hard for driving, cooperating and shooting. When all three are on hard mode, you need to be on your toes.

Spoiler

Here is the real reason tho. The bots are always on hard mode, but when they spend too much time in the Overflow Buffer Lounge, they will drop to medium and easy. Especially if they are on the hard stuff like Perl and C++. :Smile_teethhappy:

Yes indeed.  Some of the Co-op bot personalities you don't particularity want to meet.   E.g. fleeing cruisers and DDs that are all but impossible to hit.  At lower tier there is a 'bastion' personality where instead of individually pursuing an objective (a cap. a target ship) they centralize, group up and defend.

Until quite recently the bot personality in Co-op seemed to randomly cycle between about three.  Now it seems heavily weighted to yolo again.

Scenarios are a different beast as the bots are pretty much scripted.  You're looking at the designers' play, not an AI's.

Somebody does.  Ever do a double take when you spawn with a pink bot?  I have.

I have noticed the bots vary from can't hit anything (most scenario forts are  in this category) to can't miss. You can't jink 'em on speed and it seems they even anticipate your turns.
