What good/popular ships do you really suck at?

Some boats in this game have a popular and loyal fan base, usually because they are very good in their intended roll. I just struggle with the North Carolina... It has long range, hard hitting guns, good AA and is fairly nimble for a BB but I just cannot have any luck with her... Almost 100 games but a 45%wr. Other captains can excel with this ship, I can't..

A earlier game line up a enemy NC at 14k side on, 5 hits for 3 over pens, one bounce and 1 pen for 1k damage, angle myself as he returns fire, every shell seems to home in with laser accuracy and I lose 20k health, I then fire a full broard side at a sneaky Cleveland, 2k damage... Any time I'm in my Cleveland and a BB hits me I lose 95% of my health... It feels like the gunners are drunk most of the time as they miss sitting ducks. It sometimes makes me smile when I sink, as the awful gun crews have gone down with the ship..

I want to like this ship, I just cannot have any luck or fun in it..

Shinonome, Kamikaze R lately, Akizuki, Hindenburg (few games played though), Lightning.

Of that list, Shinonome and Akizuki are special cases. Those ships are cursed for me. I can't seem to hit anything in Shino and with Akizuki i always, always ate a random torp on the first 5 mins, whether it happens while im shooting in smoke or simply moving around. It's always on the first 5 mins, never fails nor it's late, 5 freaking mins. How i grinded past her and got Kitakaze (another ship i suck badly) is simply beyond me. I guess it was the triumph of stupid, nonsensical and completely dumb perseverance over common sense?.

I really don't do well in the Gucci Caesar.  Many claim (and stats show) it's OP.  If I played it more I'm sure it's stats would plummet.  I enjoy it.  I'll have one really great battle in it.  Though that one would be followed by 4 or 5 stinkers.

I would have to say Fubuki is the main one. I have no idea why either! I just have terrible luck with this poor thing, despite the fact that learning how to effectively stealth torp is what finally got destroyers to click for me. Then again I had been doing better with her post-rework... iDunno man.

Kitakaze is another one. I LOVED Akizuki while I was playing her, played a bit of Kitakaze and did rather well too. But then everything changed when the British destroyers came out and I. Got. HOOKED. I played Jervis constantly until I had enough for the Lightning, powered through Lightning on an adrenaline high that took me to Jutland (then put a Dasha on Lightning so I could keep playing her), and then blasted through Jutland to Daring. They became my new favorite destroyer line, I was enamored like no other line since the US CLs. But during all that the last ranked season came about. I was loving my Jutland in that season, so why not branch out? Let's do this, Kitakaze! Well... I think something happened in my brain between picking up Jervis and dusting off Kitakaze, because I just could NOT get her to perform. I lost the groove man, I still can't get the poor girl to work, and it's KILLING me!

For me it is Des Moines, Worcester and Giulio Cesar.

Seldom play them as I can't make them work.

Des Moines I can not stand. I am the potato that will be first blooded in the ship,  not sure why I still have it, guess it looks good in the freedom camo.

and Alaska although I love playing her I can not survive in it

Kitakaze. People say she's good, and on paper, she's a better Akizuki, but holy crap do I suck with her. I love Akizuki, both historically and in-game, but I cannot for the love of God make Kitakaze work for me.

Minotaur (Smoke Generator). How in the world do people run Minotaur with Smoke Generator? I swear, I survive less with Smoke than I do with Radar, and that makes zero freakin' sense to me.

Exeter. Well, I've been complaining about her for a while now, so I won't beat a dead horse too much. I don't do particularly poorly with her, but Exeter never seems to shine as much as the reviews seem to suggest. She's just... boring.

Warspite.  I honestly prefer Queen Elizabeth. I couldn't say why.

Fusou and Nagato. I just miss Kongou's mobility. Guess I've been grinding DDs, CLs, and CAs too often as of late.

Quite a few ships people tell me are OP or great that I find meh and overrated. Not so much that I suck in them I just don't see OP or what the hype is as they are very average or downright awful...

  1. Belfast - I love BRN CL"s and do well in them but Belfast is one of those ships you asked about that I actually do suck in. I do not get the hype or "OP" claims on this one at all? It is inferior in every way to a Fiji (yeah yeah Radar - that is situational - give me torps and a heal).
  2. Giulio Cesare - oh look another "OP" ship that is just "OK". Outside of the accuracy which is very good for a T5 BB this thing is just average IMO. I don't really do better in it than any other T5 BB. Some games I do really well and others I do squat. WG didn't have to move it to T6 (which was a stupid and failed idea before it started) if they felt it was Op - just nerf the accuracy so it is spray and pray like the other T5's and good to go.
  3. Nagato/Amagi - I group these 2 together as the overhyped claims about the gun accuracy and damage are the same. These 2 might be the most disappointing ships I have ground to expecting guns of the gods only to end up with guns of gumby. I don't see great accuracy (pretty bad actually) and damage is poor and inconsistent. I do poorly in them as a rule because they don't do what they should consistently IMO.
  4. Kronshtadt - I actually LOL when people call this garbage scow "OP". It is reasonably fast and the armor is "ok" but the main guns are completely unreliable. HORRIBLE accuracy and if you do hit you get far more overpens and shatters than you do pens and citadels. Kronshtadt is a ship I regret getting as it was a complete waste of 750K FXP.
  5. Zao - Another ship I heard was a monster that turned out to be a hamster. It's ok, don't get me wrong, and can have it's moments but it is not the Godzilla I read about as I worked towards it. For me it is the worst of the T10 CA's. Not bad, and I don't suck in it, but I find it highly overrated and kind of meh.

Those would be my top 5.

As much as I love Jean Bart, mine is cursed to forever get the most potato teams imaginable.

The disparity between it and my other high tier French ships makes me sad.

For me, I'd say Jean Bart. I've had good games in it, but for whatever reason I just tend to do poorly with it.

I'm also convinced my Roma is cursed. I usually do ok in it, but my W/R is terrible.

Scharnhorst.  For some reason, me and that bote just dont click.  I want to love it, its my playstyle (brawling) but we just dont get along.

Prinz Eugen is a close second.  I either have great games, and loose or have terrible games and loose.  At least shes partly consistent lol

Midway....   Have felt very comfortable in all the carriers until I hit that one?    Musashi has not exactly been a shining star for me either.    it starting to feel a bit better, but still feel like i'm hurting my team in it.

It's the Smoke+HE combo that people hate. I'll take consistent HE damage over the alpha of Torps any day. Fiji's damage output is not nearly so consistent.

Love the Zao and perform better in her than Minotaur (recent results, not overall), especially with her UU. Forget about maxing concealment, I max her mobility with Propulsion and Steering mods. Kites like an absolute monster, and AP shells that do hit have a pretty good chance of bouncing off the turtleback.

Same for me.  I stopped playing her for awhile because of it.  Now that have gone back to playing more T5, I've tried her out again and am doing well.  Only a few games so far but the experience is really much better.

DDs in general, I watch the videos, boy that looks like fun, play the game and ... I just don't think like a DD captain I guess.  Probably the same reason I don't especially like most of the UK cruisers, although I can do well in most of them.

Those would be my top 5.

I struggled in Belfast for the first 100-150 battles but I couldn't accept that I was so much worse in that ship than most of the tech tree ships.  Finally started doing better and I think it was more about having an overall better situational awareness of the entire battle.  Belfast has a poor firing range and if you don't position yourself well you either get exposed and deleted or sit out of position and don't help your team.  I started using my knowledge of DD play to predict where they'd be exposed and then pick a spot where I was protected (from torps and other radar).  There are places on many maps that provide this (and many that don't).  This also works against other unsuspecting light cruisers.  Positioning is key with Belfast.  Then use her tools wisely.  If you are in smoke, hydro is your friend.  Smoke is a torp magnet so if there are unspotted DDs out there, expect torps inbound.

Finally, divisioning in Belfast with a DD is a huge force multiplier.  A DD with a backing Belfast can do wonderful things.  It's like having a bouncer as an escort wherever you go.  For Belfast it's like fishing with caviar as bait.

Funny, I don't do all that well in battleships in general, but JB works wonderfully for me.  My special joy in that ship is the ability to blap Kitakazes and Harugamos that like bullying battleships.  Likewise those pesky light cruisers.  Farming Mushashi at range with HE when no other targets are available...  If they get close at end game, they give up citadels nicely.

Scharnhorst.   I like BB guns which hit their targets.  I also like BB guns which actually hurt the targets they hit.  I prefer main guns to secondaries and torps.  She should be fun, but her dispersion is such that I’m more likely to hit ships near my target than to actually hit my target.

Musashi, Alaska, Richelieu, Gearing, Moskva....

Based on my stats, it appears I'm more of a light cruiser guy so the above is surprising.

Mine is Zao, great boat for sure and I usually can do some decent damage with it, the ship is potato cursed for me though. I almost always end up with yoloing DDs that whiff torps sub 2km and then get subsequently blown away, Cruisers parked sideways eating BB dev strikes, and BB's charging caps and sitting there eating 40k rounds of cruiser HE and burn to death in 1 min.

Harugumo.

Kitekaze is great, so I know how the line works, but for some reason I just can't get a consistent game out of Haru.
