Hello everyone, before the update dropped I took some screenshots of the old Yamato model to compare with the new model in the latest update.
Some info about the shots.
These were taken on a 1080p monitor with maximum graphics settings(with FXAA turned off because BLECH). In the Sarushima Port for best lighting quality.

I know other ports have more atmospheric lighting perfect for glamour shots, but Sarushima in my opinion has the best lighting for examining details.
I tried my best to recreate each angle perfectly with each comparison, but because of human error and the fact that it is an entirely new model makes this 100% impossible, so bear with me.
So if you don't own Yamato or don't have a powerful enough machine to appreciate her in all her glory please enjoy these wonderful shots of her.

Kudos to Wargaming for their amazing work on this model! This was long overdue. I remember being quite miffed when I saw that Musashi had such a nice model compared to old Yamato. But now this lovely ship finally gets what she deserves. I very much hope that this trend will continue for all the old models in the game.

Without further ado,
Enjoy!

Standard port angle.

I'm not going to lie - while the new model is significantly better, the deck looks way too clean in the new screenshots for my taste.

Well im not at home so I can't really see it in port yet..........

How come I got the feeling of just taking Musashi's hull and just slapping it on Yamato?

That would still be better than what we had before.

Unfortunately one error was created in the process. Those brown lines on her aft deck are now wrong.

This is Musashi, as you can see the lines are basically parallel to each other:

Now Yamato (apologies for the quality, that's what I have at hand):

As you can see, the lines on Yamato were parallel to the rails for the aircraft.

Pretty subtle differences.

I did notice that the new model is significantly less rusty.  I'm sure that's just from not being in digital salt water as long.  That stuff will eat your files without constant maintenance.

Dug up one for Yamato but this was in 1944 before her final refit and sailing off for Operation Ten-Go in April 1945.

Our current WoWS Yamato.  You are right, those red-brown lines should angle out.

A more conclusive shot would be one showing Yamato in Operation Ten-Go which is what our game's version is supposed to represent, but I'd wager it'd be the same in this detail.  There are pictures from Ten-Go which have overhead views of her but the back end is usually obscured by something like smoke.

@SireneRacker Darn, now I wish I didn't know this bit of trivia. Now its gonna bug me for a looooooong time. I still love the new model though. But unfortunately as we can see it seems WG might have embellished how much work was actually put into this new model. Not saying they didn't do a good job but the whole documentary thing touting how much research they put into it now looks silly.

It could also be that she was altered to the same layout in aircraft handling facilities as Musashi. Wouldn't be the first time a younger sister ship had improvements that were later added to the preceding units. It's really hard to tell from the existing photographs from '45 unfortunately. I'm still happy that that prominent missing pair of triple 25's are now on the C turret, not to mention the better geometry overall. haven't had a chance to take her out yet between update delays, working on those new RU BB missions I got lucky in getting, fixing a broken keyboard, and some other IRL stuff. Might just wait for tomorrow to try her and focus on grinding the base XP missions instead. She's not going anywhere, and I've got my naval base screencaps of her for my ever-growing screensaver.

I don't want to sound like I don't appreciate the work these guys did on Yammy... but  a 9 man team took 6 months and a trip to Japan just to give us some very subtle visual differences on a ship no one was agonizing over due to historical inconsistencies in the model. That just seems like a waste of time, money and manpower.

I really appreciate the new Yamato model and WG is rightfully proud of their work. One thing that puzzles me, however, is how the development team can put that much painstaking work into one of naval history’s truly remarkable ships only to offer up a premium camouflage that completely disregards that very effort. I am, of course, referring to the latest offering from Kobayashi. Some people will find it attractive, and I do like the cosmetic paint, but any artistic merit is for me completely spoiled by the unnecessary changes to the model itself. Like the Roma before her, the Yamato is at her most perfect as originally conceived and built, and subsequently replicated by artists whose names we will likely never know.

I just checked the new model, it looks great.... but I got a feeling they also changed the armor scheme a bit.

I feel the citadel is higher above the water and longer in length, which if I remembered correctly, the old Yamato's citadel is less exposed compare to Musashi, but right now it seems shares the same height, and seems longer than Musashi's citadel.....

Also, the smoke stack armor is higher to 50mm. While the center 57mm plating seems shrinks in size. It seems the angle between 50mm and 57mm plating are deeper than the old version, so the 57mm plating reduces size.
