Analysis - Are PT boats being considered by the WoWS developers?

One of the things the Developers do in the WoWS April Fools events is test out possible features. We had subs in WoWS last fall, and now we have Torpedo Beat mode. Everything moves fast just like the PT boats when compared to the new game mode. 

I am donning Tinfoil hat now:
Now take the fact on the new CV rework feature on how CV planes take damage and set up in squadrons. Funny aren't PT boats done the same way for their formations (squadrons)? 

Also take into consideration the AI gunner from the Torpedo beat mode, and you see the plausible outcome in how PT boats with their gunnery could be handle the same way. 

Granted the variants of armaments and weapon damage would be different based on how the PT boats are set up, such as rockets, mortars, ATG's, 20 to 40 mm AA guns, etc. The only thing missing is the splash damage from DDs, CAs, BBs, and CV aircraft and vessel spotting. I'd imagine the developers have that figured out too.

The only question is will this setup for PT boats be tested in a future Halloween or April Fools events. And BTW, I am not asking for the PT boats, but rather noting what the WoWS developers are doing within WoWS now. Anyone else seeing these comparisons too?

Just go look at WT's implementation.  I only played one iteration of Torpedobeats, because it wasn't my thing, but, there are definitely similarities to current WT small boats.  A LOT more torps, of course...

I may be wrong but it the battle stations series there was a ship that would spawn PT boats maybe it could be implemented like that? (If it's a real thing)

Also the infographic show hurts me in so many ways

There were tenders, but they were for resupply. They didn't carry them or anything.

I cant imagine them having a very high survival rate. I men imagine them getting close toe GK or a Mass not to mention DDs would eat them.

Mixed feelings here. On one hand, I'm loving torpedo beats, and more ships is a good thing in my books. On the other... we're starting to heavily dilute the naval action game that exists, and PT boats gameplay would move us decidedly towards a more arcade-esque game.

But imagine using it to get behind a fleet and then feasting on slow moving battleships, a fleet would have to account for them maybe having to escort bb's with light cruisers to defend against them.

I like the idea, especially on maps with lots of cover, pop out with some fast torps, Battleship[ Breakfast!

I am not calling for them. I am looking at what the Developers are doing with these special WoWS events.

Not siding for them, yes one hit and the boat is gone, however a squadron of them? We will find out in the future if the developers are preparing for these ships.

WoWS is an Arcade game. The question is the line between silly arcade and simulation. The WoWS Developers have to find that magic position.

Compare to the Minotaur whose gunnery magazine would be empty in 20 seconds IRL after testing. I would not know if a cool down would happen for restocking or if there would be a replenishment base for the PT's ammo.

Thank you for discussing my thread. Overall for me there must be some purpose for the torpedo beat battle mode done by the WoWS developers. And with your POV's you help me in understanding the situation, maybe there is something going on or maybe there is nothing to worry about. We will find out in the future.

Schnellboats are already in the game in Operations.  They get shot twice and are dead.  No thanks.

And then they would be crying for accommodation after getting deleted or half healthed by a single secondary round.

I can see the developers creating a Squadron of torpedo boats for a players to have and use against enemy ships . He can have lets say (12) boats once the last one dies he's considered sunk just like a regular ship would be classified   SUNK  ???

You're not wrong, I don't mean that WOWS should be a hyper-accurate simulator. What I meant was more the 5 minute, minigame like mode that we have in Torpedo beats. Subs, I presume, are already in development since we saw them in the Halloween event. I think PT boats have the potential to move the game too far towards the 5 minute minigame aspect.

I think the mothership/drone approach works well enough with CVs. It's logical, and CVs have been around since the start, so I don't mind the dynamic. That said, I don't think it's well polished. PT boats would likely use a similar mechanic, and unless it's a solid mechanic, I don't know that I'd really want to see more of it in the game.

From playing Operation Dynamo where us Destroyer users were 1-2 shotting Schnellboots, which are like PT Boats, I want nothing to do with them except shooting them up.  A DD like Sims simply rolled up to 3-4 of these things and within seconds, all of them were destroyed.  Because surprise surprise, that was the original job of Destroyers!

 

Personally, I do like the idea of a Mega Secondaries Battleship ripping apart an entire flotilla of these things with Secondaries alone.  It'd be awesome to get a Kraken with 5 CQE awards, 5 Devastating Strikes due to PT Boat like craft in the game.

It was an interesting conjecture, but i don't think that's what the Devs were doing.  The Torpedo Beats idea has been implemented by players in training rooms for years.  I first experienced it in Death Race 2017 with V-25s.  A week ago Jingles and Digby streamed another one, plus some variation.

IMO, the April Fool designers just put it in as a fun mode.

 

Now, to put the tinfoil hat back on, perhaps the recent squadron work could be applied to PT boat squadrons...

Only as a seperate mode like the bathtube battles. Those ships were more or less a kind of PT boats.

I short search would have shown that this topic is a dead horse beaten to pulp already.

Agree, its a fun mode. However to me the Devs are up to something. They don't invest that much time into nothing. :Smile_sceptic:

I'm not asking for anything in having PT's in WoWS, other why the effort for Torpedo Beat mode? I doubt fun is their main reason for the mode.

Actually after playing the actual scenario with the fast boats and torpedoes, I wish they would keep it as part of the game but like this space frigate thing. I would love to see them explore that part of wwII!

I do not think they are on a calendar. I would love to see PT boat squadrons (think planes but on the surface). These could spawn from a base or a tender. Could be a lot of fun.
