I was wondering if on the Salem is it better to run the prop mod or SGM? I have the legendary on my des moines so I have that insane dd like start up speed but since the Salem is played more aggressively which mod would be better?

Steering gears.  The number of times you'll be in open water needing a bit extra ability to dodge and weave will be more than the need to accelerate a bit more quickly out of a bad spot.  If you're caught broadside while sitting still, the acceleration mod isn't going to help much anyway.

It is completely up to your personal preference.

I pick propulsion mod because I like dodge by accelerating at low speed and using island cover to get in and out of sight. However, if you prefer dodging by changing rudder then SGM is perfectly fine choice.
