Which Legendary Upgrade is worth the grind?

I've got a few Tier X ships, but I am uncertain which Legendary Upgrade is worth the long grind? I am financially challenged at the moment so I can't purchase some of them in the Armory. I tend to float Heavy CA/CR, but will run a BB happily. No good with new CV rework, and am a lousy DD commander. I'm more of Generalist than a specialist. I'm relying on you seasoned Commanders advice.

Some do provide a slight enhancement. But as for "being worth the grind"? None of them. For the time spent, and the rewards given...….then factor how burned out you may be by playing that ship so often to get it...I would simply play ships you like until you eventually stumble across one.

Yamato is pretty tight the extra accuracy can make the consistency pretty nice.

From looking at the Armory I think the one I'd like to get the most is for the Hindenburg.. seems like that Legendary does a lot for the Ship.

Some of the others didn't seem like it was worth the grind, if you don't buy them with "ironium".

"Worth the grind" is subjective. Probably the question is are they "worth installing," for many players. I say this, as if I recall correctly, you get credit for the mission for Clan Battles, and if you play enough Clan Battles, you will eventually earn them without trying.

IMO Hindenburg, Minotaur, Des Moines.

I don't have the one for Yamato yet but people seem to like it.

I have and do not like Henry IV Legendary (removed it).

Well, let me put it this way:

 

The ones I kept were Des Moines, Minotaur, Hindenberg, and Conqueror. Of those, I think the Des Moines is the one that's really worth the grind. Hindy and Mino are useful, but I don't think I'd do the grind again. Conqueror is ok, but I don't run it all the time.

Yeah, I'll second the garbagy nature of the Shima upgrade. There are some players that can make it work, but after the long grind it really throws you off for quite some time. I eventually sold it and don't regret it at all.

The Space Battles thing is kind of wonky for me. Don't have a real good winning percentage to get more XP and 'earn' more ironium… However, I didn't consider this avenue for obtaining a Legendary upgrade. Thanks, Chief!

anything in the slot 5 for a dd is a downgrade unless it increases concealment or in some cases has a marginally decrease in concealment but increase in other things, but thanks to the rework this is mostly a downgrade.

I have the Hindenburg UU and it greatly improves tankiness to fire and flooding. In a max fire prevention build, fires burn for 7 seconds.

I am almost finished with the Henri IV mission, and plan to try the UU for Clan Battles.

I am still grinding Conqueror, but the UU for that looks interesting. Only about 100k XP to unlock that ship.

Henry, Zao & Hindy for cruisers.

Yammy Republique Conquer & Monty for battleships. 

Given your limited time/resources these should be the best.

Zao was extremely worth it, imo. Nothing beats +100% acceleration and -60% rudder shift on a full kiting Zao even if I have to give up a little range and concealment.

Upgrades I have kept and enjoyed: DM, Montana, Hindenburg, G. Kurfurst.

Upgrades I have but don't use: Henri IV, Z-52.

Upgrades I don't have but my clan mates like: Zao, Conqueror, Gearing, Moskva, Yamato.

Upgrades I don't want: Khab, Worcester, Shima.

I don't know enough about the others.

I also have the Midway upgrade and REALLY want to use it, but I'm not able to use it at this stage of the rework 😪😫 (Anybody know when they'll be available again?)

Shimakaze is nice if you spec for torpedoes and play it like a torpedo ship. 35% reload plus adrenaline rush on 20km torpedoes is decent. But you will be targeting BBs and CAs, not so much DDs. Worth it? Eh.

Khaba doesn't use concealment anyway, so the upgrade isn't that bad.  Khaba needs that range, but the rudder trade-off is definitely not trivial - dodging gets noticeably harder, and you get killed by torps a lot more often.  A modded Khaba can eat Des Moines and Woosters without a sweat and German BBs have a very hard time making contact at 13 km.  Without the mod you have to play closer, which results in more impact on the game and higher damage numbers as long as you survive, but it makes you more vulnerable to small mistakes and a sudden death.  You have fewer hero moments and more of a relentless, medium-intensity pressure on the enemy.

You get the Unique (Legendary) Upgrades just by playing. The grind is long, so some people that have focused on getting the UU as soon as possible got sick of the ship by the time they got the UU. I have DM and play mainly co-op, so it took me 9 months of playing to get the UU by just playing 1-2 battles at a time with a few days of more. So if you are patient, just play the ships and they will come.

 

NOTE: if you sell off a Unique (Legendary) Upgrade instead of demounting it, you will need to put in a support ticket to get it back like if you had sold off a premium ship. So do check out the info on the UUs before you install them.

 

Here is all the math done on all the currently available UUs so you are not trying to figure out what +x% and -y% means. Some go in slot 5 and some in slot 6, so you need to factor in the regular upgrade that you would have used in that slot. Some are best when stacked with another upgrade in another slot, like the Des Moines UU working best with the Slot 4 Propulsion module installed as well.
