I encourage people to upload a handful of the personages who gave their names to the vessels we play. My guess is, a lot of folks never even give it a second thought (which is a shame).

Prince Eugene of Savoy (Prinz Eugen):

Queen Elizabeth I (HMS Queen Elizabeth):

Otto von Bismarck (Bismarck):

King Albert of Saxony (Konig Albert):

Tsar Nicholas I (Imperator Nikolai I):

Prince Emanuele Filiberto (Duca D'Aosta):

And, this one isn't real (but she was real), though I figured I would include it anyway, since I'm her.

Kaiserin Elisabeth, (KUK Kaiserin Elisabeth):

There are plenty more out there, but I thought I'd just toss up a few and see if people wanted to add their favorites.

it's sad when people think of the state, the first thing they think of is that damn city. So many wonderful areas in New York, and all everyone outside of it can think of is that damn city.

The BB's were named after states. A USS NYC would have been a cruiser.

I know that. but if you go check the person I quoted, he shared a picture of New York City, which is what I was commenting on, and that I believe it to be sad, that it is the city that people think about when they hear the words "New York." Niagara Falls... Finger Lakes... Lake Ontario... But no, always that damn city, the first thing people think about, when the state is mentioned.

The Brooklyn was a cruiser, they used the boroughs, you would never see a NYC

Clearly some cretins don't understand the term "personages". :Smile_sad:

My truck broke down one Spring in Plattsburgh. Since I could not drive it for a three-day weekend, I walked around town. It's a really neat place with a lot of interesting history. The largest naval battle of the War of 1812 was fought on the lake there. These weren't just tiny inland rowboats either. The Americans had a corvette (26 guns), brig (20 guns), schooner (14 guns), sloop (7 guns), and ten gunboats while the British had a brig, two sloops, twelve gunboats, and a 36-gun frigate!
