One of my favourite ships to sail in lower tiers is the USN T4 DD Clemson. It is just a blast to battle with. It's only shortcoming is alligator arm torpedo range which is not the worst in it's tier, but a common meta for American non premium DD's all the way up to the upgraded torpedos of the T7 Mahan.

Never happen, but if the Clemson's torpedos had another KM torpedo range added. Whoa Nelly!

I'm giving Clemson more attention again. I love crazy battles in Wickes too. Short reload time and lots of excitement.

I mean she is the tech tree clubber of choice for loads of people and for good reason.

Another gem is Shenyang. She plays like a Minekaze that decided to get USN  high velocity naval rifles. Add to that the smoke and the torp range and the sky is the limit with what you can do.

I went back to the stock torpedoe for faster reload time. the loss of 500 meters would be worth it in my opinion.

I need to actually try a Clemson sometime. We've all seen the sealclubbers that use that ship really well. I just prefer torpedoes as my weapon of choice on DDs, so I never really gave her much thought. I should drop a good captain on her and go ham....

A little extra range wouldn't hurt Clemson at all.  I actually like the Shenyang better and except for deep-water torps believe she outperforms Clemson.

Another fun little DD, even though T3, is the Vampire.  Got to play her this weekend as a Maskarado ... got in 1 crazy battle on Big Race with 22 players ... 17 were DDs ... and managed to get 3 kills and survive until just before end of game.  What a little beast! Wish I had worked to get her when available.

I have almost completed my USN tech tree grind. I asked @Destroyer_KuroshioKai about what would be a good line to grind for my playstyle. He made some good recommendations.

With the Yubari sitting in Arsenal for very reasonable coal price, it has been fun seal clubber ever since the CV rework when I picked her up. The Defensive AA Consumable has been a nasty surprise for unwary CVs, and the ship has not been bad against other ships either.

Kuma has long been another fun seal clubber that had been useful when desperate for credits and lacking premium time by just adding that French Camo that I ended up getting a ton of. Kuma also is good at stacking up some awards to earn signal flags for higher tier ships while flying none of them for herself. Which with people loving to seal club using DDs, the Kuma is a good choice considering she was designed to escort DD squadrons and fight enemy DDs.

But have to agree Clemson is fun, and actually so is the  Nicholas if you know the trick of using speed flag and speed boost to dart out from cover into point blank range of enemy BBs and turn away in such a way that you emery all 4 sets of torpedo launchers into the BB, particularly hilarious if it’s a tier 7 BB.

Hmm. Yes. People used to say the same thing about GC. Then WG decided to rein it in. Be careful what you point out enjoying.

You are right.  Nerfing tech tree ships is next.

The Clemson is my favorite at T4.  It might be my favorite DD in the game actually.  I really can't think of a T4 ship that's not a BB or a CV that I don't like really.  All the cruisers and DDs I find very enjoyable to play.  T4 might be the most well balanced tier in the game.

US DDs are wicked powerful down low due to having launchers on both sides of the ship where other nations DDs have them on the centerline.

It's not about having launchers on the SIDE, it's the fact that they can carry 12 torpedoes (half on each side).

You actually echo'd what one of my deputy commanders has recommended to me. I need to try building a DD with the manueverability focus.

Isn't that an oxymoron?

Not really, Shenyang uses single purpose guns with pretty high velocity, think it's 960m/s

If they had centerline launchers they would only be able to fit half that many, as on other nations DDs. Launchers on each side gives them twice the torps, just have to turn the ship to drop them all.

Yeah well I'm still waiting for those to become optional armament for US DDs.

Stock Nicholas uses the same rifles, though tied to the hull sadly.

Suggesting a buff for the clemson?!?

Sure if they are offering! Not holding my breath though. I'd lean a little more to it stays as is and gets joined by a new T4 DD that has better armor, guns, torps, concealment ect ect.

Or a straight up nerf

Clemson so much fun, I think its made easier for "seal clubbing" because most people can't aim as well in those tiers.  If you can make people whiff one or two salvos you can outgun a cruiser in a clemson.

Not yet. Kicking around ideas about what tech tree line/class to grind next. I wanted to grind the entire USN line first. Now almost done and ready to explore different DD's and BB's.
