When did WG start letting matchmaking do four tiers into the same battle?

I had a battle where both teams were comprised of tiers 4,5,6, &7 today.

It happens because of divisions.  Say a div of a T6 and T8 getting put into a T9 battle.

Tier 7 match consisting of ships of tiers 5, 6, and 7.

Someone in a tier 5 boat formed a division that included another player in a tier 4 boat and ended up on your team.  <-- Fail Division.

Tier difference in a division is limited to 1 tier. ie tier 5 with tier 6

I accidentally did it earlier this week.  Divisioned with a buddy, thought I had my Cleveland selected, actually had my New Orleans selected.  Ended up in a tier X battle.  Fun times were had by the guy who deleted me.

What you're describing is impossible and cannot be …

If we were talking about anything other than WG :)

The problem lies with the player base. It’s total garbage. Potatoes will potato.

Even better was an Umikaze divisioned with a Yamato. Floods for everyone.

If that was still allowed today, lots of players would also attempt to do the same thing with Campbeltown , V-25, or the Longjiang

Ah. I remember those days, I killed an Umikaze in my Lo Yang a long time ago. I never got the chance to try it myself.

The Longjiang could work but the V25's and the Campbeltown's detection is too long to pull it off.

Way back, there was this trick where two T5 ships div'd with a Hosho so they would be top tier all the time.

This got to be abused so much, that WG removed the 1 tier safety for div'd T4 CVs...

So for a few days when a lot of folks were copying this, we ended up with Hosho planes battling Atlanta level AA...   Oh, it wasn't pretty.

...

They probably wished they brought Ramming Flags.

Actually Jingles... er... BrushWolf... V25 has one of the best stealth ratings in the game. While the stock surface detection range isn't amazing at 5.4km, when you add in camouflage and a captain w/ concealment expert you can get V25's surface detection range down to 4.7km. As far as I know, the only ships that can tie that are the Touchy Banana twins (Tachibana and Tachibana Lima), Medea, and Longjiang. As for the stealth torpedo envelope... V25's torpedoes can have up to 6km of range, giving you a 1.3km stealth torp window.

Campbeltown... Looks like the best I could get its surface detection range down to was 5.8km when I put a captain w/ concealment expert on it. Of course Campbeltown has 7.5km range torpedoes so it does have a 1.7km stealth torp window.

I will grant you that neither Campbeltown or V25 have the Umikaze's 3.1km stealth torp envelope, which is I hope what you were trying to say. :Smile_hiding:

Sort of, I was going off base detection because how much is lopped off the detection range seems to vary a lot and the 3.1 of the Umikaze leaves lots of room for minor position errors where 1.3 requires much more precise positioning to work.

I remember a while back while playing a Tier X BB, some Tirpitz + Scharnhorst + Gneisenau queued up and found themselves in a Tier X game.  The Tier VII BBs got absolutely ripped apart.  They couldn't do sh*t.  It was hilarious a.f. :Smile_veryhappy:

Yamatos, Montanas, Republiques, GKs:  "That's some nice Tier VII BB armor.  It would be too bad if someone were to... SH*T ON IT!"

Zao and Hindenburg gave the proper Tier X greetings.

What made it better is I'm pretty sure they were trying to get their VII-VIII BBs to club the sh*t out of lower tier players, but ended up getting clubbed themselves.
