How is everyone liking the Alaska?

I only have 3 games in mine so far but I am enjoying it.  Had a 79k game, best so far.  Feels faster and maneuvers better than I anticipated.

  Same here.  2 games only so far, but enough to show me that Alaska is going to be just as fun as any other US CA.   My top was only 64k- but that was in a game where our Kurfurst got 5 kills.  I literally ran out of things to shoot at, lol.  (Co-op, so only 8 reds to begin with.)   I did manage to absolutely NAIL a Gearing on the run- serves him right for trying to flank us!

  Alaska truly popped it's cherry next game, where it annihilated a Minotaur, with a devastating salvo through the bow.    Mauling an annoying ship like that always makes me smile.

So far Im trash in it.  My last 3 games werent bad, all over 80k damage (one 98k), but since my average dmg with it is currently only 59k.  You can tell those first 4 games werent so hot damagewise.

Just still trying to figure out how to play it, definitely seems you should be shooting AP more often than not.

I've been playing mine like a Scharnhorst.  Targets of opportunity and tagging along with others.  I hit a Nelson for a Citadel from about 12k last match.  Got two citadels on another Alaska as well.  Just wish I had torps.  lol

LOVE IT! Alaska is everything Kronshtadt isn't but wants to be. Tough, accurate, and consistent. The AP hit's like a sledgehammer and the HE also hits hard and actually starts fires. Only 15 games so far (all Co-op of course for me)...

• High Damage = 150,953
• Most Kills = 5
• MBH% = 48%

Again, love it.

Actually I find the HE very good on Alaska. I have got some big damage salvos with it and it seems to start fires really well. The AP is absolutely brutal of course but don't ignore the HE. I tend to start with it for the 1st few long range salvos and any DD's that pop up and then once the Cruisers and even BB's are visible AP into the sides is where it is at. I think I swap back and forth between AP and HE in Alaska more than just about any ship I play. Both are excellent IMO. Helps having Halsey at the helm with his 75% EL bonus. Makes the swap if already loaded and I want to change ammo super fast.

Dealing damage in it feels like more effort than it should be, but it has a lot of staying power, doesn't get outright deleted easily.

If you have both (I do) I can't imagine anyone ever playing Kronshtadt again outside of a mission calling for it or something like the snowflake event. Just the consistency and accuracy of the guns alone on Alaska vs Kronshtadt is such a massive edge to Alaska.

I like it, I will need to get used to its gunnery, but I like it. I think once I get the shell flight times seared in my brain I will love it.

First match wasn't so hot, ended up focused by everything and well, new ship. Second match about 11km+ out citadeled one of the tier 8 USN BB's a couple times over 2-3 salvo's - at which point I was sold because my Musashi doesn't do that as easily as it did. Opted to set her up as that more close range support setup LWM suggested (I prefer close range play other than CV's) and has not really disappointed after that first battle. Kinda like a French BB with better accuracy.

I find her to be boring, bringing nothing even vaguely interesting to the game. I’m happy that she’s here for the people that were excited about her, though.

Special note: I am teaching myself as a bb how to counter and sink dd and mino so this assignment will be completed first before I can unlock the wallet for the Alaska by which time she might be more reasonably priced among other things.

 

I think that it will leave the premium shop and only be available for Free XP in a couple weeks. It's a good deal right now $80 and I am not going to cipher the exact math, but I do think it's around $140 to convert all of the XP for it.

Citadeled an Izumo and an Alaska in the last game I played in Co op, only played her twice so far, she hit's hard. I also think it's cool that she is not named for the State of Alaska, she's named for the Alaska Territory.

I like her, but haven't figured her out yet. Learned fast she's not a BB. But the AP is awesome. I think I need a bit more practice, but the potential looks great. Had a 150K damage game, looking forward to getting more time with the AK.

That's right.  US was only 48 states when she was named.  Alaska became a state in 1959.

She DOES hit hard!  She hits like a Terrible Tim Witherspoon overhand right!  (google him and watch him nuke dudes with it)

After 3 games I'm not a huge fan, the guns seem a combination of bad factors, the shell arcs I didn't think would be as bad as they are (same as IJN 203's at mid-long range, but still worse before that).

The ability to do damage to anything angled is poor, and I had 0/9 hits against a a stationary broadside Des Moines at 8km...

definitely worth the 1,000,000FXP, not sure I would pay the $ value in the shop even without the European VAT being added for me being in Europe, even though I have a habit of getting premium ships.

I look at it and i compare it to other t9's and its not worth 1m free xp maybe 500k?

A breath of fresh air.  I like both Kron and Alaska.  These ships seem to have just the right combination of mobility, firepower, durability, and utility (I run both with Surveillance Radar Modification 1).  Of course these ships also come with drawbacks, like any other ship in game.  You just have to strive to play to its strength and compensate for its drawbacks.

AK isn't a joke if face it either. It's annoyingly good at hammering my DDs and seems to start fires at the worst times.

Think I may go ahead and buy it today. Not using my FXP for anything else and will hit beyond 1.9mil FXp before end of this month if continue to hoard.

If you need to convert the entire 1m at 25:1 it comes out to I think close to 200...the quick math I've always used was 20 bucks gets you about 4k doubloons gets you 100k of FXP, so basically 20 bucks gets 100k FXP, or 10x that for 1m...granted, I think it may be more like 4200 instead of 4k even, and if you were to buy it in doubloon bundles you'd save more, but eitherway, if you had to convert the whole amount, I'd say the 80 is a lot cheaper.
