At 17000', amazing work finding something a several football field long but not as wide, in the Pacific.  Must take a lot of hours, dedication and science developed from Robert Ballard (Titanic).

Not only the Titanic, but also the Bismarck and the USS Yorktown.

Time to ask Wargaming for a USS Hornet premium.

Probably not since we already have a Yorktown class CV as the Enterprise.

If WG loads it with B-25 bombers, we could have quite a menace. Their armor is thicker as they can take a beating. No dives though. But they have carried torpedoes. B-25's have also had wing-mounted cannons for ground support roles in tank busting.

Now that is just silly.

If they do put B-25s on it, they will obviously only target ground bases and then fly off and attempt to land in China.

I know the history of the Doolittle raid.. but this is a game. The B25 can actually carry rockets, bombs and a type 13 torpedo SIMULTANEOUSLY.. Wouldn't that be sweet?

The plethora of Omaha and Fletcher premium clones heavily argue your point.

Well done to the Petrel team, this one would have been far, far easier to locate than say Indianapolis (which had been searched for before it was found, but too far to the east), but working in 5,000m of water is rarely entirely mundane.

With the Hornet being torpedoed by USN and then IJN destroyers there should have been a couple of pretty decent recorded sinking positions, it would be interesting to compare them. From there on, depending on the seabed conditions, and from GEBCO (low resolution bathymetry) it's not too bad, though not a nice flat abyssal plain, mowing the lawn with the 75kHz sonar on the Remus 6000 AUV would have been relatively simple.

That is why I'd rather have cartoon/paper boats than more reskins.

Considering the B-25 attacking a ship...   First, fire off the rockets, then drop the torpedo, then finish off with bombs.

With any luck, the 15 second repair on the bomb fires dies off just in time for flooding from the torpedo.

And then there is this....

How can they tell the pilot's name is skip?  /ducks

Yes skip bombing became a thing.  It was very effective against the sides of squishy ships where there is a chance of a citadel pen.

One of Doolittle's B-25s did bomb Ryuho in Yokosuka harbor...

I'd rather have famous ships even if it means a few of the same class.

Much better than the disrespectful cartoon garbage that mock the real thing.

Yeah, I know.

I believe from what I have read, not knowing what was in port at the time, that they essentially bombed targets of opportunity. Given they did launch much further out then planned, the fact they rattled the Japanese so well, even if they did not truly cause alot of damage.

Not taking anything away from these gentlemen. They are true heroes and I was lucky enough to meet three of the last survivors and get their autographs.

Only if it includes B-25's that can't return to the ship. :Smile_teethhappy:

In one of the pictures there is a International Harvester tow tractor still chained on the hanger deck, you can still see the name plate.

Sitting that deep has preserved it pretty well.

Let's be real here: with how AA works right now, MOST planes don't return to the ship. :p
