This presupposes that they won't nerf the ability of CV's to do spotting.

1. If most DD's actually had longer range torps, the CV spotting wouldn't be quite as big of an issue. I just saw someone make a post saying, "Not all DD's suck since 0.8.0" or something like that. It was a pair of Shima's..... they have 20km torps! I think most DD's should get a significant torp range buff. Lower the reloads and damage a tad to compensate. This way, the DD's can stay closer to the friendly blob of ships and still have decent alpha strike capability.

2. It would be super cool if friendly planes could lay down smoke. You know, like a torp drop.... But you can do it for a friendly DD. Layin' down the line.

3. Give DD's shorter but more frequent smoke, like Royal navy smoke.

4. Have a timer start from when the CV spots the DD, like how they're doing the 6s delay for radar... Make it like 3-5s or something, then the DD will only be spotted if the CV player commits to multiple attacks. Basically, have the timer be slightly longer then one attack run against a DD.

Anything else you can think of?

EJ

Just because you can doesnt mean you should.

like the asashio in a game earlier today, who thought he would send his 20km torps at an enemy iowa 18km away... from behind our team. TLDR - all eight hit our team.

I think of myself as a dd-main but if i look at my port is almost even in all classes. But ive been playing dd for 3+ years.

Right now today after hotfix, dds are fine "UNLESS" The enemy CV has RPF then your screwed for sure as im 99.999999% sure they run it for dd hunting. Remove it and we are fine.

I took our all my dds today and found them playable but you had to keep AA off till spotted. If anything they need more smoke and longer duration especially if trying to cap near the end of a game. Torps stealth could be buffed a little but that has always been a wish but even i fear 20k old shima torps could be dangerous to the game as many people seem to not understand how to use long range torps and end up hitting friendlies.

My conclusion after today, is they are playable but yes need a few tweeks as do the cv and aa still.

Then they should turn off team torp damage... something has to give...the class is dead if things stay like this. it'll just be the diehard DD players and you'll only see one on each team every other game

As soon as I saw and heard about planes having RPF. I didn't need in-game (first hand) experience to realise that this was a bad idea.  The idea of 'chance' should still be there for all classes.

I'm glad if what you wrote is true. It seems that the game is hopefully headed towards a positive (relative) direction.

No one in their right mind uses those any more. F3s with 8km range are even superior to 20km long lance torps. You can see the latter from space and evade accordingly.

WTH is that? Was this even ever a thing IRL?

I can agree with this but then RN DDs will lose their SPESHUL gimmick.

* Maybe give DDs better AA or introduce tech trees of escort DDs which will do the front line screening of incoming aircraft.

Limit a CV's spotting to its planes; any ship detected by planes would only appear on the mini-map for other ships outside its visual detection range.

I can dodge planes in a DD (although it would be nice to be able to have some control over shooting back), but I can't repeatedly dodge planes AND simultaneously avoid concentrated gunfire from every ship within 20 parsecs.

Bring on the planes, but if ships want to shoot at my DD, let them at least work a little bit by sailing toward my coordinates on the mini-map until visually detected by a ship.

Personally I would love to see radar make the user spotted just like it does the DDs it spots.  That's what happens IRL.  Other ships should detect you at about 1.25 to 1.5 times the detection range of your radar.

Planes spotting torps is ridiculous too.  Shouldn't happen.
