I am playing Dynamo with an Haida, a Leningrad and a Monaghan and I have trouble shooting at the Schnellboot coming at the convoy

Being very fast (hense the name) I have a tough time aiming at them, too much lead, short or long I never kill more than 5 or 6 per game

Anyone has a trick up there sleeves?

I can't switch between ships with different ballistics because it throws my aim off.  If you use one ships, or all US DDs you'll probably figure things out much faster.

I used Haida because I needed 1 experience point to get concealment expert

I wish I had another US DD because I can't hit a thing in my Icarus or Aigle. In the Sims I can shoot down a lot of planes.

Just pay the 75K credits and keep running the Sims with flags and farm the XP.

I usually lead my aim at 10-15 on the reticle with the dynamic option turned on. The aim differs depending on the dispersion of the DD. I find the Jervis' dispersion to be the most accurate out of all the ships I have played.

My Aigle is the same with the planes, but boy it melts the Schnellboots like the ark of the covenant lol

Pity I can't use the Kidd but the Sim is good enough. The Hilda is decent enough but her AA is pretty weak compared to the Sim.

Many people may have their zoom in default when aiming.  Try zooming back out a bit and then shooting at them.

It gives a bit more to see and maybe a better reference with the horizon to gauge the speed.

Use dynamic crosshair I use the same boat each time. They are pretty hard to hit beyond 6.5km. You can torp em every time within 3km.

The Jervis will be a welcome change. The Aigle is alright; I only use her in Dynamo to farm XP for my French commander.

It seems I either sink a bunch of Boats with my Aigle, and get no plane kills, or I run my Faragut and kill tons of planes but only a few boats... I've had several 5 star runs, but never top of the scoreboard...this week I watched a guy in Sims get 16 boats.. :Smile_ohmy: :cap_rambo: I should have got his name so I could ask him, LOL...

I use sequential fire and try to saturate the area rather than attempt to hit with a full salvo... at least while I get the right lead, though by that time I get such lead right I sometimes have to switch targets.

If DD AA worked in Random Battles as well as in Dynamo...

Cossack is the top Schnellboot killer.

Sims is the top plane swatter.

I like how threads about Dynamo are going up now that the operation is in rotation.

I could but I'm too cheap. I am grinding the US DD line so next time Dynamo is Operation of the Week I will have a second, maybe 3rd US DD. I enjoy the scenarios so I keep my T6 & T7 ships.

  1. The E-boats will not be at top speed when spotted, but they will hit top speed within 3s of being spotted.
  2. See where your shots land, adjust aim to compensate for distance you missed. When running parallel, If you lead at "10", and your shells landed 1 notch behind, change your lead to "11"
  3. Keep practicing with the same ship, so you don't throw off your aim due to different shell flight time.
  4. The E-boats only show up in certain spots, so anticipate where they will be and pre-aim your guns to get more shots off.

Top advice: switch to a Russian DD. You can farm the heck out of them in Leningrad with RussianBiasLasers. Also, those torps can get kills pretty well -- I've whacked as many as three e-boats in a single match with torps alone.

Also, the boats will spawn depending on where your team is gathered. For example, if many ships are gathered to the right of the east patch of the minefield, Schnellboots will spawn there. Schnellboots will spawn either to the left or to the right when the convoy comes out of the narrow path.

Schnellboots also have predetermined spawn locations; i.e. the 5 Schnellboots at the beginning of the operation will spawn in the same locations, while the Schnellboots in the last part of the operation always spawns in the top right corner of the map. Any Schnellboots after that will spawn depending on your ship's location, so you might want to farm some more torpedo boats before the operation ends.

your success at killing Schnellboot will be proportional to how many selfish people are playing in your team who cant hit a barn door unless they are right by it, so they push wide/forward of everyone else, and thus have a 5km or more advantage on everyone else while they get their ego stroked with easy kills.

often Dynamo is carried by the people who spend most of their time WITH the ships to be escorted keeping them safe from all the aircraft including the penalty ones triggered by the people who push wide, but in doing so you generally get fewer Schnellboot kills vs. the rouges who push wide and hope everyone else will carry.

I aim above their ship model and I seem to have a better chance at killing them from between 2km to 4km. The schnellboats look like they're bobbing up and down along the water as they go so when I aim at the waterline it always feels short. It really helps to get within 5km to kill them, at the risk of being torped. High shell velocity ships like the Russians or many gun ships like Cossack seem to stand the best chance of killing them, and I've seen Minsks and Cossacks have at least 9-10+ kills, but you lose out on plane kills. When I run my USN DDs, I'm lucky if I get more than 2 boat kills.

You have to lead them twice what you lead regular DD.  Also, getting closer helps, but careful, they have fast torps, too.  Like sideways 90* angle you must aim at the far point of your aim line.  It takes practice and getting to know the mission.  It’s really not that hard once you get used to it.  Knowing where to expect them helps as well.

Also, using the better ships helps.  Sims is best, try Minsk or Lenny which are great for the mission. Any American or Russian DD work well, although Farragut is not ideal for this mission.  But this mission is practically made for the Sims.  It eats them up and farms credits big time.  Also American smoke helps.  Good luck!

You aren't going to make a ton of money on this op.  You'll do okay with flags.  Still, its worth the 75K because there isn't a better ship than the Sims.  You can really rack up a ton XP.  I've played about 25 times with flags to farm XP.  About 8 million credits, over 200K FXP, and over a million commander XP.

That's not really been my experience.  People out front to shoot the Schnellboots works.  I've had only one match in 25 where we were close to not winning because people were playing poorly or getting killed.  Also, I'm one of the "selfish" players that goes out front to kill the Schnellboots.  The 10-15 E-boats I kills, and the 60-70 planes, I'm doing more than my share.  If your team doesn't have someone like that on it you'll struggle to consistently win.  The good news is there are no shortage of decent Sims players out farming this op.
