I plan to keep playing CVs. I also bought back a few lower tier ones to get coal and steel. If I read this development bulletin right I can only exchange them through this new CV menu? Or can I still sell them for credits and just take a loss on earned xp? So should I just sell them now?

Also it says my captains will get switch over to their secializations, does that mean I don't get to pick how I want them specd out?

My understanding is you'll get more for them after 1/23.  Also doubloons if you're getting rid of your premiums.

I plan to keep playing them, don't want to work my way up again and want to keep my premiums.

I think you should hold on to them and see exactly what's being offered closer to the rework release. What they intend to give you may change.

I vaguely recall reading something about a re-spec for aircraft carrier captain skills, because a lot of the old skillss are going away anyway, but only for carrier captains.

The pedantic nature of the specialisation transfer is because the game recognises T8 Kaga/Saipan as different ships, not the same ship moved up.

I would hang on to them. If you are getting out of CV's, you can get all their XP converted to free XP, which you probably won't get if you sell them now. It's safer and more certain to have them in your port when the rework drops. If you trade them in, you might even get full credits for them; if you sell them in the usual way, you will only get half. The downside is you can't trade in lower-tier carriers without also losing the higher-tier ones, but IF they give full XP and credit price, and please note the "if", then you might be able to trade the whole lot in, re-research the whole line with the FXP you get, and re-purchase only the higher tier ones you want to keep.

Wait for further details.

Wait. I didn't find the article at the moment, but here was one that explained how you get refunded in credits and free XP for the odd tiers CV.

Hold your horses a little longer -selling right now why even bother?  You wont get all the doubloons and silver you spent on them if you sell today. Just hang tight play any of the hundreds of ships available.

Might as well wait to sell them, but my understanding is you can reset the line (get back credits and xp) regardless of if you have the ships currently in port or not) ie, I have the t10s but when I reset the line I will be credited for the t5-9 too

Wait for the full details. This article gives you an overview, but we won't know the specifics until the Dev Bulletin and/or Patch notes for 8.0. So figure on getting the info some time from Jan 14th to Jan 22nd as a SWAG.
